  • Since the first record of an anamorph of Neoerysiphe galeopsidis (syn. Erysiphe galeopsidis) on Lamium album subsp. barbatum in Korea in 1992, no scientific information has been added. Seven additional anamorphic samples (2003-2022) and one teleomorphic collection (November 2022) of N. galeopsidis on L. album subsp. barbatum in Korea enabled us to provide holomorph morphology and phylogeny of this powdery mildew for the first time. The presence of aerial hyphae around the chasmothecia was proposed and documented for the first time.

  • We have screened the cytoprotective effect on $\gamma$-ray radiation induced oxidative stress from eighteen Korean plant extracts. Querus salicina, Clerodendron trichotomum, Lamium amplexicaule, Lozoste lancifolia and Malus baccata were found to scavenge 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical and intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS). As a result, extracts of these plants reduced cell death of Chinese hamster lung fibroblast (V79-4) cells induced by $H_2O_2$ treatment. In addition, these extracts protected cell death of V79-4 cells damaged by $\gamma$-ray radiation. In addition, these extracts scavenged ROS generated by radiation. Taken together, the results suggest that Quercus salicina, Clerodendron trichotomum, Lamium amplexicaule, Lozoste lancifolia and Malus baccata protect V79-4 cells against oxidative damage by radiation through scavenging ROS.

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of mecoprop-wp concentrations on weed control, growth characters and yield in flax, after 7cm and 14cm of plant height it to the field. The major weeds were Alopecurus aequalis var. a murensis (kom) ohwi, Persicaria hydropiper spach, Lamium amplexicaule L, Stellaria alsine Grimm var. undulata ohwi, Eleusine indica(L.) Gaertn. Flax yield were increased somewhat more with 250g/10a mecoprop-wp at 7cm of plant height than the other treatment and by hand weeding treatment of mecoprop-wp, 250g/10a at 7cm of plant height was slightly harmful for the flax with recommended concentration, On the other hand, all treatments were harmful in the double dosage level.

  • This study was carried out to predict the current and future potential distribution and to identify the factors affecting potential distribution of 7 plants(Lamium amplexicaule L., Trigonotis peduncularis(Trevir.) Benth. ex Hemsl, Capsella bursa-pastoris (L.) L. W. Medicus, Taraxacum officinale Weber, Veronica persica Poir., Conyza sumatrensis E. Walker, Hypochaeris radicata L.) selected as indicators for climate change in agricultural ecosystem. We collected presence/absence data of 7 indicator plants at 108 sites in South Korea and applied the Maxent model. According to future climate scenario, the distribution area of C. bursa-pastoris(L.) L. W. Medicus, T. officinale Weber, and V. persica Poir. was expected to be reduced, but the distribution range was to be maintained. The distribution areas and range of the C. sumatrensis E. Walker and H. radicata L. were expected to be increased. The distribution area and range of T. peduncularis (Trevir.) Benth. Ex Hemsl. and L. amplexicalue L. were rapidly decreased. Non-climatic factors such as land cover and altitude were the most important environmental variable for T. officinale Weber, C. bursa-pastoris(L.) L.W.Medicus, V. persica Poir., T. peduncularis (Trevir.) Benth. Ex Hemsl., and L. amplexicalue L.. Climatic factors were the most important environmental variable for C. sumatrensis E. Walker and H. radicata L.. It is expected that the future potential distribution of 7 indicator plants response to climate change will be used to monitor and to establish the management plan.

  • This experiment was carried out to find effective weed control method of henbit deadnettle ($Lamium$ $amplexicaule$ L.) on cultivating field of Italian ryegrass ($Lolium$ $multiflorum$ Lam) using herbicide in Grassland and Forages Division, National Institute of Animal Science, RDA, Cheonan from 2008 to 2009. When Onehof was treated two times of spray, weed control ratio was most high as 90%, but this method can not be used because of much damage to Italian ryegrass. When MCPP was treated two times of spray, weed control ratio was high as 82%, and damage to Italian ryegrass was very insignificant. Especially, when the spray of MCPP was treated two times, dry matter yield of Italian ryegrass was 11,427 kg/ha, but that of non treatment was 1,658 kg/ha. That is to say, forage harvest was impossible in non treatment field. According to these results, to control henbit deadnettle on cultivating field of Italian ryegrass using herbicide, you need to treat with two times of spray of MCPP in mid-March. If you do, you can get regular harvest as much as 11,427 kg/ha.

  • To select new useful plants with antibacterial activity, ninety five sample of eighty different species of wild plants were collected, and extracted with methanol. Antibacterial activity of the methanol extracts was tested against Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and Vibrio parahaemolyticus. The methanol extracts from Artemisia capillaris, Hemistepta lyrata, Youngia japonica, Prunella vulgaris, Lamium amplexicaule and Juniperus chinensis was effective against all bacterial strains tested, and eight methanol extracts including Ixeris dentata, Gnaphalium affine, Chelidonium majus and Spiraea prunifolia exhibited the antibacterial activity against at least 3 bacterial strains. Methanol extracts from leaf of Syringa vulgaris, Drava nemorosa and clove of Erythronium japonicum showed a selective antibacterial activity against two gram negative bacteria, V. parahaemolyticus, and B. subtilis, respectively. With investigations on antibacterial activity against a certain bacterial strains tested, metahnol extracts from clove of Erythronium japonicum, Spiraea prunifolia, leaf and twig of Camelia japonica, and Drava nemorosa showed strongest activities against B. subtilis, S. aureus, E. coli, and V. parahaemolyticus, respectively. Nine methanol extracts based on the results were successively fractionated with n-hexane, chloroform, ethyl acetate and water portions, which were examined antibacterial activity against B. subtilis and V. parahaemolyticus. Among the all fractions tested, chloroform fractions of Hemistepta lyrata showed strongest antibacterial activity against both B. subtilis (17mm) and V. parahaemolyticus (29 mm). Chloroform fractions of Youngia japonica, n-hexane fractions of Artemisia capillaris, Iexeris dentata and Prunella vulgaris, and ethyl acetate fraction of leaf and twig of Camelia japonica showed relatively a strong antibacterial activity. On the other hand, Juniperus chinensis and Equisetum arvense was distributed to all fractions except for water fraction.
