The thermo-mechanical bending behavior of the antisymmetric cross-ply laminates is examined using a new simple four variable trigonometric plate theory. The proposed theory utilizes a novel displacement field which introduces undetermined integral terms and needs only four variables. The validity of the present model is proved by comparison with solutions available in the literature.
The purpose of this study is the design of composite shaft which is wound by Filament Winding method. Classical laminated plate theory was used for analyzing the stress, and for structure design. The diameter and thickness of composite shaft were calculated by this theory. The result that if tensile stress was zero, torsion stress was a certain value below 0.4(diameter rate) and torsion strength was the highest value on 45$^{\circ}$(winding angle). In case of 90$^{\circ}$(winding angle), we have to consider the torsional moment when the composites shaft was load.
Thick composite laminated plates is considered in 3D finite-element. To consider continuity of transverse stresses and displacement field, mixed finite-element has been developed by using layerwise theory and the minimum potential energy principle. Mixed finite-element has been enforced through the thick direction, Z, of a laminated plate by considering six degree-of-freedoms per node. Six degree-of-freedoms are three displacement components in the coordinate axes directions and three transverse stress components ${\sigma}_z,\;{\tau}_{xz},\;{\tau}_{yz}$. The model maintain the fundamental elasticity relations that are stress-strain relation and displacement-strain relation, because the transverse stress components invoked as nodal degrees of freedom by using the fundamental elasticity relationship between th components of stress and displacement. Random vibration analysis of the model is performed by computing consistent mass matrix and computing covariance in frequency domain technique.
We discuss finite element approximation and use a Mindlin plate element based upon uniformly reduced numerical integration. The finite element selected for use in this work is a four-node, bilinear displacement element based upon the Mindlin theory of plates. Such elements show good accuracy for laminated composite plates when reduced numerical integration is used to evaluate the element marices. This study presents both the experimental and F.E. results for the natural frequencies of CFRPURETHANE-CFRP Composite plate. Good agreement between experimental and calculated frequencies is achived.
LNG cargo containment system (CCS) has the primary function of ensuring adequate thermal insulation with keeping natural gas below its boiling point. From the viewpoint of structural design, this LNG CCS can be treated as a laminated composite structure showing complex structural responses under the sloshing load which can be defined as a violent behavior of the liquid contents in cargo tanks due to external forced motions. As LNG CCS type, Mark III containment system from TGZ is considered in this paper and then its structural strength assessment is performed based on a simple higher-order shear deformation theory and maximum stress, maximum strain, Tsai-Wu failure criteria developed for laminated composite plates. The assessment is performed to the initial failure of the Mark III CS plate by investigating failure locations and loads.
We study thickness-shear (TSh) free vibrations of an unbounded, laminated elastic plate with three layers of different materials. One of the two interfaces is slightly weakened as described by the shear-lag model that allows the displacement to be discontinuous across the interface. A frequency equation is obtained from the linear theory of elasticity. A perturbation solution of the frequency equation is obtained from which the frequency shifts of TSh modes due to the weakened interface can be calculated. It is shown that the frequency shifts of TSh modes of different orders are different, and they satisfy different conditions when different interfaces are weakened. These conditions are obtained which can potentially be used as criteria for determining specifically which interface is weakened.
In this study, nonlinear response of laminated functionally graded carbon nanotube reinforced composite (FG-CNTRC) plate under low-velocity impact based on the Eshelby-Mori-Tanaka approach in thermal conditions is studied. The governing equations are derived based on higher-order shear deformation plate theory (HSDT) under von $K\acute{a}rm\acute{a}n$ geometrical nonlinearity assumptions. The finite element method with 15 DOF at each node and Newmark's numerical integration method is applied to solve the governing equations. Four types of distributions of the uniaxially aligned reinforcement material through the thickness of the plates are considered. Material properties of the CNT and matrix are assumed to be temperature dependent. Contact force between the impactor and the laminated plate is obtained with the aid of the modified nonlinear Hertzian contact law models. In the numerical example, the effect of layup (stacking sequence) and lamination angle as well as the effect of temperature variations, distribution of CNTs, volume fraction of the CNTs, the mass and the velocity of the impactor in a constant energy level and boundary conditions on the impact response of the CNTRC laminated plates are investigated in details.
