A pressure-based, unstructured finite volume method has been applied to couple the chemical kinetics and fluid dynamics and to capture effectively and accurately the steep gradient flame field. The pressure-velocity coupling is handled by two methodologies including the pressure-correction algorithm and the projection scheme. A stiff, operator-split projection scheme for the detailed nonequilibrium chemistry has been employed to treat the stiff reaction source terms. The conservative form of the governing equations are integrated over a cell-centered control volume with collocated storage for all transport variables. Computations using detailed chemistry and variable transport properties were performed for two laminar reacting flows: a counterflow hydrogen-air diffusion flame and a lifted methane-air triple flame. Numerical results favorably agree with measurements in terms of the detailed flame structure.
Numerical analysis was conducted to predict the damage of indoor gas explosion for the propagation of explosion flame. Indoor gas diffusion distribution due to gas leakage was obtained by diffusion equation that adopted initial conditions from reference. Enthalpy of each gas-mixture ratio and reduced mechanism was applied to calculate flame temperature, and laminar combustion velocities with the variant of each gas concentration from reference were applied to the gas mixture. Turbulent combustion velocity was modeled by coupling of turbulent energy and laminar combustion velocity in k-$\epsilon$ model. For the analysis of flame propagation cartesian and cylindrical coordinate were used to indoor position and flame propagation respectively. The study analyzes the cause of pressure rising with the variation of flame propagation by glass damage, and the result shows that indoor pressure rising with ignition position varies window dimension.
The deposition behavior of soot particles in a diffusion flame along a solid wall was examined experimentally by getting rid of the effect of natural convection utilizing microgravity environment. The microgravity environment was realized by using a drop tower facility. The fuel for the flame was an ethylene ($C_2H_4$) and the surrounding oxygen concentration 35% with the surrounding air velocity of $V_a$=2.5, 5, and 10 cm/s. Laser extinction method was adopted to measure the soot volume fraction distribution between the flame and burner wall. The results show that observation of soot deposition in normal flame was difficult from buoyancy and the relative position of flame and solid surface changes with time. The soot particle distribution region moves closer to the surface of the wall as the surrounding air velocity is increased. And the experiments determined the trace of the maximum soot concentration line. It was found that the distance between soot line and flame line is around 5 mm. That is, the soot particle near the flame zone tends to move away from flame zone because of thermophoretic force and to concentrate at a certain narrow area inside of the flame, finally, to adhere the solid wall.

The temperature and soot particle measurement technique in a laminar diffusion flame has been studied to investigate the characteristics of soot particle with temperature using a co-flow burner. The temperature distribution in the flame were measured by rapid insertion of a R-type thermocouple and the soot particles by LEM/LIS techniques. In these measurement, soot volume fraction, number density and soot diameters were analyzed experimentally. As a results, the spacial distributions of particle volume fraction, soot diameter, and number density are mapped throughout the flame using the Rayleigh theory for the scattering of light by particles. A laser extinction method was used to measure the soot volume fraction and laser induced scattering method was used to measure the soot particle diameter and number density. Also, we measured temperature without the effect of soot particles attached to the thermocouple junction, which is close to the nozzle. In this result, we found that upstream zone has a unstable flowing in co-flow diffusion flame and the y-axis temperature of flame has a uniform temperature distribution in the most soot volume fraction zone.

Unsteady behaviors of counterflow flame were studied experimentally in opposing jet counterflow burner using diluted methane. To generate the unsteadiness on the flame, the counterflow diffusion flame was perturbed by velocity changes made by the pistons installed on both sides of the air and fuel stream. The velocity changes were measured by Hot wire and Laser Doppler Velocimetry, and the flame behaviors were observed by High speed ICCD and ICCD. In this investigation, the spatial irregularity of the strain rate caused the flame to extinguish from the outside to the axis during the extinction, and we found the following unsteady phenomena. First, the extinction strain rates of unsteady cases are much larger than those of the steady ones. Second, the extinction strain rates become larger as the slope of the change of the strain rate increases. Third, the unsteady extinction strain rates become smaller with the increase of the initial strain rate.

In the paper we investigate characteristics of a transitional behavior from a premixed flame to a triple flame in a lifted flame according to the change of equivalence ratio. In previous study, we showed that the stabilized laminar lifted flame regime is categorized by regimes of premixed flame, triple flame and critical flame. A gas-chromatograph is used to measure concentration field, a smoke-wire system is used to measure streak line, and a PIV system is used to measure velocity field in lifted flame. In the visualization experiment of smoke wire, the flow divergence and redirection reappeared in premixed flame as well as triple flame. Thus we cannot express the flame front of lifted flame has a behavior of triple flame with only flow divergence and redirection. In PIV measurement, flow velocity for those three flames has minimum value at the tip of flame front. To differentiate triple flame and premixed flame, $\Phi$ value of partially premixed fraction is employed. The partially premixed fraction $\Phi$ was constant in premixed flame. In critical flame small gradient appears over the whole regime. In triple flame, typical diffusion flame shape is obtained as parabolic distribution type due to diffusion flame trailing.
The morphology and size distribution of chromium oxides and the concentration measurement of atomic arsenic have been studied in laminar diffusion flames. Nitrogen was added to vary flame temperatures in hydrogen flames. Ethene flames were used in order to investigate the potential for interaction between the soot aerosol that is formed in these flames and the chromium aerosol. Two sources of chromium compounds were introduced: chromium nitrate and chromium hexacarbonyl. A detailed investigation of the morphology was carried out by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The amounts of Cr(VI) and total Cr were determined by a spectrophotometric method and by X-ray fluorescence spectrometry, respectively. Also, LIF was used for the measurement of atomic arsenic, which was excited at 197.2 nm and was detected at 249.6 nm. Results showed that the morphology of the particles varied with the flame temperature and with the chromium source. The particles were characterized by porous structures, cenospheres and agglomerated dense particles when chromium nitrate solution was added to the flames. At low to moderate temperatures, porous sintered cenospheric structures were formed, in some cases with a blow hole. At higher temperatures, an agglomerated cluster which was composed of loosely sintered submicron particles was observed. It was also found that the emission of Cr(VI) from the undiluted $H_2$ flame was more than 10 times larger than in the 50% $H_2$ / 50% $N_2$ flame on a mass basis. Single point LIF measurement of atomic arsenic indicated that arsenic exist only in the low temperature, fuel rich region.

Profiles of soot volume fraction, average diameter and particle number density have been measured using a light scattering and extinction technique in a coannular propane diffusion flame at atmosperic pressure. Temperature profiles were also obtained using a thermocouple technique. Measurements show that soot is first observed to form low in the flame in an annular region inside the main reaction zone. At higher locations this annular region widen until entire flame is observed to contain particles. Soot volume fraction and particle diameter profiles peak some 1mm on the fuel side of peak temperature and increase with height to oxidation region. Number density of the flame core drop steeply from formation region to growth region and relatively invariant to some height and decay out at flame tip.
In this study, the quantification of soot particles in laminar diffusion flame with LII/LIS methods was performed. In these quantification, soot diameter, number density and volume fraction are included. For the quatification of soot particles, calibration tests are needed and the development of algorithm has to be performed. So, in this study, extinction and scattering test at co-flow burner were performed to acquire calibration data. And algorithm for LII/LIS simultaneous measurement for the quantification of soot were developed. The algorithm, which was the quantification of simultaneous photographing using one ICCD camera, to measure LII/LIS signal simultaneously, the best fitted light intensity and acquisition time was needed.
