Owing to the growing size of the eigenvalue problem and the growing number of eigenvalues desired, solution methods of iterative nature are becoming more popular than ever, which however suffer from low efficiency and lack of proper convergence criteria. In this paper, three efficient iterative eigenvalue algorithms are considered, i.e., subspace iteration method, iterative Ritz vector method and iterative Lanczos method based on the cell sparse fast solver and loop-unrolling. They are examined under the mode error criterion, i.e., the ratio of the out-of-balance nodal forces and the maximum elastic nodal point forces. Averagely speaking, the iterative Ritz vector method is the most efficient one among the three. Based on the mode error convergence criteria, the eigenvalue solvers are shown to be more stable than those based on eigenvalues only. Compared with ANSYS's subspace iteration and block Lanczos approaches, the subspace iteration presented here appears to be more efficient, while the Lanczos approach has roughly equal efficiency. The methods proposed are robust and efficient. Large size tests show that the improvement in terms of CPU time and storage is tremendous. Also reported is an aggressive shifting technique for the subspace iteration method, based on the mode error convergence criteria. A backward technique is introduced when the shift is not located in the right region. The efficiency of such a technique was demonstrated in the numerical tests.

The corpus luteum (CL) is composed to various cells, such as luteal steroidogenic cells (LSCs), luteal thecal steroidogenic cells (LTCs), luteal endothelial cells (LECs), fibroblast, immune cells and blood cells. The life span of CL is controlled by proliferation and apoptosis of luteal cells. Therefore, this study investigated apoptotic factors in luteal cells derived from bovine CL. The CL tissues were collected from bovine ovaries and luteal cells were isolated from middle phase CL. Then, LTCs and LECs were separated according to cellular morphology from LSCs. The expression of Bax, Bcl-2, Fas and tumor necrosis factor 1 receptor (TNF1R) mRNA and protein were analyzed using quantitative RT-PCR and western blot. Results show that, Bax and TNFR1 mRNA expression were significantly increased at late group than early and middle groups, otherwise Bcl-2 were significantly decreased at late group than early group (P<0.05). Fas mRNA expression were significantly decreased in middle group compared to early and late groups (P<0.05). In addition, Bax and Bcl-2 mRNA in LTCs was lower than LSCs, Fas mRNA was higher than LSCs. The Bcl-2 protein expression was lower at LTCs than LSCs, especially Fas protein in LTCs was significantly lower than LSCs and LECs (P<0.05). Otherwise, TNFR1 protein of LTCs were similar with LSCs but higher compared with LECs. In conclusion, we suggest that the results may help understanding of apoptosis ability in luteal cells according to cell type during CL regression of estrous cycle.
In structural analysis of tall buildings the traditional primary loading analysis approach that assumes all the loads are simultaneously applied to the fully built structure has been shown to be unsuitable by many researches. The construction sequential analysis that reflects the fact of the level-by-level construction of tall buildings can provide more reliable results and has been used more and more. However, too much computational cost has prevented the construction sequential analysis from its application in CAD/CAE software for building structures, since such an approach needs to deal with systematic changing of resultant stiffness matrices following level-by-level construction. This paper firstly analyzes the characteristics of assembling and triangular factorization of the stiffness matrix in the finite element model of the construction sequential analysis, then presents a fast construction sequential analysis strategy and a corresponding step-by-step active column solver by means of improving the existing skyline solver. The new strategy avoids considerably repeated calculation by only working on the latest appended and modified part of resultant stiffness matrices in each construction level. Without any simplification, the strategy guarantees accuracy while efficiency is greatly enhanced. The numerical tests show that the proposed strategy can be implemented with high efficiency in practical engineering design.
We propose a heat jet approach for a two-dimensional square lattice with nearest neighbouring harmonic interaction. First, we design a two-way matching boundary condition that linearly relates the displacement and velocity at atoms near the boundary, and a suitable input in terms of given incoming wave modes. Then a phonon representation for finite temperature lattice motion is adopted. The proposed approach is simple and compact. Numerical tests validate the effectiveness of the boundary condition in reflection suppression for outgoing waves. It maintains target temperature for the lattice, with expected kinetic energy distribution and heat flux. Moreover, its linear nature facilitates reliable finite temperature atomic simulations with a correct description for non-thermal motions.
In order to apply a complex multilayer chip LC filter, this study has estimated the interfacial reaction and coupling properties of dielectric materials $Pb(Fe_{1/2}Nb_{1/2})O_3$ and Ni-Zn-Cu ferrite materials through low-temperature co-sintering (LTCS). PFN powders were fabricated using double calcinated at $700^{\circ}C$ and then $850^{\circ}C$. While the perovskite phase rate was found to be 91 %, after heat treatment at $900^{\circ}C$ for 6h, the perovskite phase rate and density exhibited a value of 100 % and 7.46$g/cm^3$, respectively. The PFN/Ni-Zn-Cu ferrite, PFN/CUO (or $Pb_2Fe_2O_5$) and ferrite/CuO (or $Pb_2Fe_2O_5$) were mechanically coupled through interfacial reactions after the specimen was co-sintered at $900^{\circ}C$ for 6 h. No intermediate layer exists for the mutual coupling reaction. This result indicates the possibility of low-temperature co-sintering without any interfacial reaction layer for a multilayer chip LC filter.
Stability of MBC1, a specific matching boundary condition, is proved for atomic simulations of a diatomic chain. The boundary condition and the Newton equations that govern the atomic dynamics form a coupled system. Energy functions that decay along with time are constructed for both the boundary with the same type atoms and the one with different type atoms. For a nonlinear chain, MBC1 is also shown stable. Numerical verifications are presented. Moreover, MBC1 is proved to be stable for a two dimensional square lattice.
The flow around two rectangular cylinders with aspect ratio of 0.5 in a tandem arrangement, was investigated using pressure measurements (in a wind tunnel) and flow visualizations (in a water tunnel) in the range of P/h from 0.6 to 4.0. Four flow patterns were identified, and processes of shear layers wrapping around, the shear layer reattachment, vortices wrapping around and vortices impingement, were observed. Mean and rms pressure distributions, flow visualizations and Strouhal numbers were presented and discussed. The paper revealed that the variations of Strouhal numbers were associated with the shear layers or vortex interference around two cylinders.
