Improved Channel Estimation for Selective RAKE Receiver in LR-UWB System (저속 UWB 시스템에서 선택적 레이크 수신기를 위한 개선된 채널 추정 방법)

  • This paper proposes an efficient scheme to estimate the channel parameters such as channel gain and delay for the IEEE802.15.4a LR-UWB systems. Sliding window (SW) method is generally used for the channel estimation of LR-UWB systems, which extracts the channel parameters by performing the cross-correlation with the repeatedly transmitted signal. However, the SW method experiences the severe performance degradation because the cross-correlation is performed just once for the received signal. In this paper, we propose a novel channel estimation scheme, which can achieve a great performance gain by performing the cross-correlation repeatedly with the repeated receive signal. In order to verify the performance gain of the proposed scheme, we performed the intensive simulation with the Saleh-Valenzuela channel model. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme has a performance improvement of 4dB compared to the conventional SW channel estimation scheme.

  • The low-rate (LR) UWB is a promising technology for the ubiquitous sensor network (USN) due to its extremely low power consumption and simple transceiver implementation. However the limited communication range is a bottleneck for its widespread use. This paper deals with a new frame structure of class 4 active RFID multi-hop relay system based on ISO/IEC 18000-7 standard integrating with IEEE 802.15.4a LR-UWB PHY layer specification, which sets up a connection to USN. As a result of the vital importance of the coverage and throughput in the application of USN, further we analyze the performance of the proposed system considered both impulse radio UWB (IR-UWB) and chirp spread spectrum (CSS). Our simulation results show that the coverage and throughput are remarkably increased.

IEEE 802.11a Interference Suppression Method Using by SVD Algorithm in LR-UWB Systems (LR-UWB 시스템에서 특이값 분해를 이용한 IEEE 802.11a 간섭억압기법)

  • UWB radio systems have drawn attention during the last few years. These systems are the core technique for ubiquitous home and enable to co-exist with other narrow band systems over the same frequency without interfering them. But UWB signals have a very low power per pulse, so they are affected by strong narrow band interferences. Specially, IEEE 802.11a systems which operate around 5GHz overlap the band of UWB signals and they will interfere with UWB systems significantly. In this paper, we propose a novel narrow band interference suppression method based on singular value decomposition(SVD) algorithm for DS-UWB in IEEE 802.15.4a channel model. The proposed method is very effective and robust for both a single user DS-UWB system and a multiuser DS-UWB system to reduce the narrow band interference.

Performance analysis of UWB receiver using PPM and BPSK modulation scheme in the LR-WPAN System (LR-WPAN 시스템에서 PPM+BPSK 변조 방식을 사용하는 UWB 송수신기의 성능 분석)

  • In the IEEE 802.15.4a system, they require simple, economical and low power consumption transmitter and receiver to transmit low rate data and to identify distance and location. To meet these requirements, LR-WPAN system use transmitter and receiver with simple modulation and demodulation scheme. In this paper, use PPM+BPSK modulation and windowing scheme to overcome multipath fading effect. Then we apply this channel estimation scheme to LR-WPAN system and compare performance depends on transmitter scheme. Proposed method using preamble to find channel characteristic out and we compensate distorted data with that information. Therefore we can detect signal easily at the demodulation part. Simulation result shows that performance evaluation is greater at the NLOS channel than LOS channel no matter what the receiver scheme.

  • LR-UWB utilizes BPSK and PPM for the transmission, which embeds the information in the transmitted pulse position. Meanwhile, by using coherent method, there is approximately 3dB enhancement on the BER performance over that using non-coherent method. However, due to the variable channel conditions, conventional system which uses fixed modulation is not efficient. To maximize the efficient and performance, in this paper, we propose an adaptive method including 4PPM+BPSK mode and 2PPM mode, in which the modulation method is dynamically changed depending on the channel condition which is determined according to the preamble correlation output.

  • This paper proposes a two-stage synchronization scheme using a serial search non-coherent correlator appropriate for the IEEE 802.15.4a system. The proposed method improved the synchronization performance by using multi-pulse signals unlike the conventional method using single-pulse signals. It also compensated for the degradation of performance at low SNR resulting from the use of fixed threshold by applying the adaptive threshold technique. The proposed method showed a detection probability that is higher by approximately 0.2-0.3 compared with the conventional method in the IEEE 802.15.4a channel model.

  • 수십 센티미터 이내의 오차를 만족시키는 거리/위치판별 기능 및 저속 데이터 송수신 기능 구현을 주목적으로 발족된 저속 무선 개인영역 네트워크(LR-WPAN: Low Rate Wireless Personal Area Network)의 표준인 IEEE802.15.4a는 간단하고 경제적이며 전력 소모가 적은 송수신기 구조를 요구한다. 이에 본 논문에서는 PEWB(Parallel Energy Window Banks)를 이용한 독창적인 비동기(noncoherent) OOK(On-Off Keying) UWB(Ultra-Wide Band) 송수신기 구조를 제안한다. 또한 무선 다중경로 채널상황을 다소 극복할 수 있는 펄스와 비트 반복 기법을 사용한다. 제안된 송수신기의 잡음 특성 분석을 위해 chi-square 분포가 사용되며, 반복적 계산을 통해 얻어진 임계값을 적용하여 BER(Bit Error Rate) 성능을 분석한다.

Two Techniques of Angle-of-Arrival Estimation for Low-Data-Rate UWB Wireless Positioning (저속 초광대역 방식의 무선 측위에 알맞은 신호 도착 방향 추정 기법 두 가지)

  • The signal model and weighted-average based estimation techniques are proposed to estimate the angle-of-arrival (AOA) parameters of multiple clusters for a low data rate ultrawide band (LR-UWB) based wireless positioning system. It is observed that the weighted-average based AOA estimation technique gives an optimal AOA estimate under few clusters condition, and the average based AOA estimation technique gives a correct AOA estimate under many clusters condition through computer simulation. Also, we can observe that the variance estimation error decreases as SNR increases, and the proposed techniques are superior to the conventional technique from the viewpoint of performance.

  • In this paper, we proposed channel estimation scheme for LR-UWB system which has low data rate for WPAN in IEEE 802.15.4a. At the transmitter, we proposed dynamic power level allocation depends on channel condition in specific period when we modulate signal. We use two orthogonal code to estimate channel at once. It can estimate channel more accurately by using two code which shows good correlation characteristic then it can estimate more accurately by spreading gain. Using estimated channel condition, we synchronize symbol timing of transmitted signal. Then determined power allocation scheme and channel information is transmitted to transmiter side. Finally, using these information, transmiter side change the power level of repeated pulse to adopt to channel condition. Simulation is performed under S-V channel for LR-WPAN in IEEE 802.15.4a and we compare the performance with a different type of receiver type. We use coherent and non-coherent method at the receiver. Simulation result shows us at the NLOS channal performance evaluation is greater than that of LOS channel and the result is independent of receiver type. In the NLOS channel, as the signal delay spreading is big, performance evaluation is also increased.
