In regulation of IGC code 12.1 mechanical ventilation should be arranged to ensure sufficient air movement through the space to avoid the accumulation of flammable or toxic vapours and ensure a safe working environment, but in no case should the ventilation system have a capacity of less than 30 changes of air per hour baed upon the total volume of the space. In this study, a scaled mode chamber was constructed to investigate the ventilation characteristics and stagnation area in the hood room of LNG carrier and pump room in tanker. An experimental study was performed on the model by using visualization equipment with a laser apparatus and an image intensifier CCD camera. Twelve different kinds of measuring areas were selected as the experimental condition. Instant simultaneous velocity vectors in the whole fields were measured by a 2-D PIV system A three-dimensional numerical simulation was also carried out for three different Reynolds numbers. Then the CFD predictions were discussed with the experimental results. The results show the spiral L-shape flow that moves from the opening on the left wall diagonally to the upper right part dominates the ventilation structure. The stationary area of hood room in the velcoity distributions was located in the upper left stern part.

Recently ships and ocean platforms are becoming increasingly technological, unmanned, and huge. Maintenance and safety monitoring of these products is very important for safety reasons. Therefore, real-time monitoring of safety regions, such as the engine room, and hull structure, and environmental states, like fire and pressure of LNG tanks, is required for the sustainable ships. In this paper, a ZigBee-based wireless sensor network is suggested to monitor ships and ocean platforms effectively. However, this causes some telecommunication problems because these products are made of steel. To resolve this problem, we use the mesh networking of Zig-Bee that can monitor the regions and environmental states consistently. The telecommunication of such a monitoring system is tested on a real container ship and its performance is verified. The real-time monitoring results are displayed on the users' smart devices.
Recently, the construction of underwater structures has been gradually increased, but underwater concrete got some problems of quality deterioration and water contamination around cast-in-situ of construction. In addition, massive underwater structures such as LNG tank, underwater concrete structures of large and continuous high- strength subterranean wall under water are being demanded lower heat of hydration. In this paper, the mechanical properties of high-strength antiwashout underwater concrete (HAWC) containing with two kinds of mineral admixtures respectively were investigated. On the basis of these results, the pH value and suspended solids of HAWC manufactured in the mock-up test were 10.0$\Box$11.0 and 51 mg/${\iota}$ at 30 minutes later, respectively, initial and final setting time were about 30,37 hours, and the slump flow was 530$\pm$20Tm. In the placement at a speed of $27 m^3/hr$, there was no large difference in flowing velocity with or without reinforcing bar, and flowing slope was maintained at horizontal level. Compressive strength and elastic modulus of the cored specimen somewhat decreased as flowing distance was far; however, those of central area showed the highest value.

In this study, the toughness was evaluated by using the instrumented Charpy impact testing procedures for A15083-O aluminum alloy used in the LNG carrying and storing tank. The specimens were GMAW welded with four different mixing shield gas ratios (Ar100%+He0%, Ar67%+He33%, Ar50%+He50%, and Ar33%+He67%), and tested at four different temperatures(+25, -30, -85, and -196$^{\circ}C$ ) in order to investigate the influence of the mixing shield gas ratio and the low temperature. The specimens were divided into base metal, weld metal, fusion line, and HAZ specimen according to the worked notch position. From experiment, the maximum load increased a little up to -85$^{\circ}C$, and the maximum load and maximum displacement were shown the highest and the lowest at -196$^{\circ}C$ than the other test temperatures. The absorption energy of weld metal notched specimens was not nearly depends on test temperature and mixing shield gas ratio because the casting structure was formed in weld metal zone. In the other hand, the others specimens was shown that the lower temperature, the higher absorption energy slightly up to -85$^{\circ}C$ but the energy was decreased so mush at -196$^{\circ}C$

This paper analyzes the behaviors of corrugated membrane under the cryogenic liquid pressure and thermal loading using the FEM analysis program MARC. The FEM calculations were carried out on the basis of measured data of Technigaz membrane. It is very important to know the concentration levels and distributions of stress in the corrugated membrane. A quarter of the membrane sheet in place of the whole membrane was simulated because of its geometric symmetricity. The calculated results of the concentrated stress showed that the maximum stress occurs at the knot parts and at the root corner radius of the corrugations. The FEM calculated results indicated that the ring knot membrane which was developed in this study showed uniformly distributed stress and the lowest stress levels in the cross knot area in comparison with other two membranes. These results are very important to optimize the shape and improve the safety of membrane structure.

The noise analysis is usually carried out in the early structure design stage for the main areas in a vessel such as an accommodation, an engine room, HVAC System and etc. If the analysis results are higher than the noise limits based on guideline, appropriate countermeasures are established to reduce noise levels and applied to the vessel. But excessive noise induced the main or auxiliary equipment and high pressure steam system is very difficult to check in the initial design stage, and local noise problems frequently appear in actual vessels. This paper deals with excessive noise of the engine control room on LNG carrier. It includes the cause analysis of excessive noise, the countermeasure, and verification. Also, it proves suitability of the countermeasure through the on-board test.

In general, ship hull form design is carried out in two stages. In the first stage, the longitudinal variation of the sectional area curves is adapted from a similar mother ship to determine the volume distribution in ships. At this design stage, the initial design conditions of displacement, longitudinal center of buoyancy, etc. are satisfied and the global hydrodynamic properties of the structure are optimized. The second stage includes the local designing of the sectional forms. Sectional forms are related to the local pressure resistance in the fore- and aft-body shapes, cargo boundaries, interaction between the hull and propeller, etc. These relationships indicate that the hull sections need to be optimized in order to minimize the local resistance. The volumetric balanced (VOB) variation of ship hull forms has been suggested by Kim (2013) as a generalized, systematic variation method for determining the sectional area curves in hull form design. This method is characterized by form parameters and is based on an optimization technique. This paper emphasizes on an extensional function of the VOB considering a geometrical wave profile. We select a container ship and an LNG carrier to demonstrate the applicability of the proposed technique. Through analysis, we confirm that the VOB method, considering the geometrical wave profile, can be used as an efficient tool in the hull form design for ships.
Printed circuit heat exchanger (PCHE) is a compact heat exchanger with good heat transfer performance, high structure integrity, and reliability over a wide range of temperatures and pressures. Instead of the traditional zigzag and straight shape channel, the sinusoidal shape channel was adopted in this study to investigate the relation of thermal-hydraulic performance and waviness factors (period and amplitude). The local flow characteristics and the heat flux distribution were compared to verify the effects of period and amplitude on heat transfer performance. As the period of channel becomes shorter, the rapid change of the flow direction can produce high flow separation around the corner leading to the disturbance of the boundary layer opposite wall. The nonuniform distribution of flow velocity appeared around the corner positions can promote fluid mixing and lead to higher thermal performance. An evaluation index was used to compare the comprehensive performance of PCHE considering the Nusselt number and Fanning factor. Based on the simulation results, the optimal design parameters of PCHE channel shape were found that the channel with an equivalent bending angle of 15° offers the highest heat flux capacity.
Gas explosion accidents could cause a catastrophe. we need specialized and systematic accident investigation techniques to shed light on the cause and prevent similar accidents. In this study, we had performed LPG explosion simulation using AUTODYN which is the commercial explosion program and predicted the damage characteristics of the structures by LNG explosive power. In the first step, we could get LPG's physical and chemical explosion properties by calculation using TNT equivalency method. And then, by applying TNT equivalency value about the explosion limit concentration of LPG on the 2D-AUTODYN simulation, we could get the explosion pressure wave profiles (explosion pressure, explosion velocity, etc.). In the last step, we performed LPG explosion simulation by applying to the explosion pressure wave profiles as the input data on the 3D-AUTODYN simulation. As a result, we had performed analyzing of the explosion characteristics of LPG in accordance with concentration through the 3D-AUTODYN simulation in terms of the explosion pressure behavior and structure destruction and damage behavior. The analyses showed that the generated stresses of the structures were lower than the compressive strengths in cases 1(two lane) and 2(four lane), while the generated stress in case 3(six lane) was 8.68e3 kPa, which exceeded the compressive strength of 5.89e3 kPa.
