  • LNG is being spotlighted as a clean marine fuel because of recent trend in reinforcement of marine environmental regulation. In this paper, demand prospect of LNG bunkering for Ulsan port is carried out to analgize the possibility of commercialization of floating LNG bunkering terminal. Environmental analysis for LNG bunkering and LNG bunkering trends of competitive ports in the world are considered to draw out the prospection of LNG bunkering demand in Ulsan. As a result, car carrie and oil carrier were expected to have more possibility in switching to LNG fuelled ship. The LNG bunkering demand in Ulsan. The LNG bunkering demand in Ulsan port was expected to be about from 650,000 ton to 900,000 ton in 2030 and Ulsan port is prospected to be a good port for FLBT business in th future.

  • 그동안 국내에서 소비되는 발전용과 민수용 LNG를 한국가스공사가 독점으로 공급하여 왔으나, 정부가 규제 완화와 경쟁 촉진을 위하여 민간부문에 LNG 직도입을 허용함에 따라 포스코, SK, LG 등 국내 굴지의 기업들이 LNG 직도입을 추진하고 있으며, 최근 포스코가 오만 칼하트로부터 광양 터미널에 6만톤의 LNG를 싣고 5월 27일 입항함으로써 첫 결실을 보게 되었다. 한국가스공사도 2008년이후 신규 LNG 물량에 대하여 기존 대비 30% 이상 낮은 가격으로 계약을 체결하는 등 국내 LNG 가격과 수급구조에 커다란 변동이 예상되고 있다. 우리나라의 CBP 전력시장은 이러한 LNG가격 변동이 발전가격에 그대로 반영되는 가격 메커니즘을 가지고 있어서 향후 전력시장에 미치게 될 영향을 2004년말 정부가 발표한 제2차 전력수급기본계획을 기준으로 검토하였다.

  • 전 세계적으로 천연가스의 수요가 급격하게 증가함에 따라 천연가스의 생산 및 공급이 활발하게 이루어지고 있고, 향후 10년 간 천연가스의 사용량이 현재의 2배 이상이 될 것이라는 추측도 나오고 있다. 이에 따라 천연가스 생산지에서는 천연가스 액화 플랜트(Liquefaction Plant)와 저장 탱크(LNG Storage Tank), 수입하는 곳에서는 재기화 플랜트(Regasification Plant)와 저장 탱크, 그리고 LNG를 운송할 LNG 운반선의 신조프로젝트가 활발하게 진행되고 있다. 미국의 경우 911테러와 NIMBY 사고의 확대로 인하여 LNG 수입기지의 육상건설을 주민들의 반대하자 해상에 건조하려는 경향을 보이고 있으며, 이에 따라 여러 가지 형태의 LNG Offshore 터미널이 설계되고 있다. 향후 LNG의 급격한 수입이 예상되는 나라로는 미국, 중국, 인도 등이 있으며 수출국으로는 카타르가 급격하게 부상하고 있다. Performance Assessment of Navigation Seakeeping for Coastal Liquified-Natural-Gas Bunkering Ship (연안선박용 LNG 벙커링 전용선박의 내항성능 평가에 대한 연구)

  • Through the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy, South Korea is trying to support the "Building Project for Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) Bunkering Ship," centered on the Korea Gas Corporation, while the Ministry of Maritime Af airs and Fisheries is pushing to construct an LNG bunkering terminal at Busan New Port. LNG bunkering ships are essential for supplying LNG fuel from the terminal to the ships, resulting in the need for safety operation procedures. Therefore, in this study, the stability of a coastal LNG bunkering ship operating from Busan New Port to the anchorage in Busan Port was assessed to investigate the need for operational procedures for coastal LNG bunkering ships. Seakeeping analysis of the LNG bunkering ship was performed for each significant wave height by combining the response amplitude operator from the ship motion analysis under the potential flow theory with the actual observed sea data for five years and Texel, Marsen, and Arsloe (TMA) spectrum suitable for the Busan coast. The results showed that the roll and horizontal acceleration were the main risks that affected the navigation seakeeping performance above a significance wave height of 2 m. The operational periods of the LNG bunkering ship ranged from 83.3% to 99.9% of the total observation period.

  • The IMO has adopted emission standards through Annex VI of the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL) that strictly prohibit the use of bunker C oil for vessels. In this study, we have adopted the turret-moored Floating LNG-Bunkering Terminal (FLBT) which is designed to receive the LNG from LNGCs and transfer it to LNG-bunkering shuttles in side-by-side moored condition. Numerical analyses were carried out using the high-order boundary-element method for four vessels at various relative distances. Mean wave drift forces were compared in an operational sea state. A model test was performed in the ocean engineering basin at the Korea Research Institute of Ships & Ocean Engineering (KRISO) to verify the safety of the berthing/unberthing operation. In the model test, a jig was designed to simulate tug boats pushing or pulling the bunkering vessels, so that the friction force of the g operation was not affected. Safety depended on the environmental direction, with more stable operation possible if the heading-control function of FLBT is applied to avoid beam-sea conditions.

  • In this study, the operability of an FLBT (floating LNG bunkering terminal) was evaluated experimentally. Model tests were conducted in the KRISO (Korea Research Institute of Ships and Ocean Engineering) ocean engineering basin. An FLBT, an LNG carrier, and two LNG bunkering shuttles were moored side by side with mooring ropes and fenders. Two white-noise wave cases, one irregular wave case, and various regular wave cases were generated. The relative local motions between each LNG loading arm and its corresponding manifold in the initial design configuration were calculated from measured 6-DOF motions at the center of gravity of each of the four vessels. Furthermore, the locations of the LNG loading arms and manifolds were varied to minimize the relative local motions.

  • This study aims at examining the safety of the would-be approach channel of LNG Terminal at Kwangyang Harbour, by utilizing Captains 2000 port-design simulator. Six competent shipmasters or navigators participated in this study. The developed model ship was a 70,200DWT (138,000m3) LNG carrier. The environmental conditions were maximum flood-and-ebb current condition and wind condition. To evaluate the navigational safety, two categories were analyzed, which were measures of vessel's proximity and shiphandler's subjective evaluations. With respect to the effects of the worst environmental conditions on transit safety, it was concluded that the would-be approach channel was safe on basis of the support of four tugs of 3,200hp or more and current speed of 0.5knots or less.

  • In recent years, LNG bunkering terminals are needed to supply LNG as fuel to meet the emission requirements of the International Maritime Organization (IMO). A floating LNG bunkering terminal (FLBT) is one of the most cost-effective and environmentally friendly LNG bunkering systems for storing LNG and transferring it directly to an LNG fuel vessel. The FLBT maintains its position using mooring systems such as spread mooring and turret mooring. The loads on the vessel and mooring lines must be carefully determined to maintain their positions within the operable area. In this study, the wind loads acting in several side-by-side arrangements on the FLBT and LNG-BS were estimated using wind tunnel tests in the Force Technology, and the shielding effect due to the presence of ships upstream was evaluated. In addition, the empirical formulations proposed by Fujiwara et al. (2012) were used to estimate the wind force coefficients acting on the FLBT and those results were compared with experimental results.

  • LNG-RV has the additional equipments that enable to re-gastify liquefied LNG in LNG carrier. This vessel has Submerged Turret Loading(STL) system which transports gas through submarine terminal. When LNG-RV is operating at sea, the opening condition is formed by detaching STL equipment from a vessel. The primary objective of the current work is to estimate accurate speed loss for the opening condition of the LNG-RV employing numerical calculations and model tests. In the model tests, resistance and self-propulsion tests are carried out for the bare-hull and the opening condition without STL. In addition to these, flow visualization utilizing tuft is used to make the flow patterns visible, in order to get a qualitative or quantitative information for inner part in case of detaching the STL.
