Precise Analytical Solution for the Peak Gain of LLC Resonant Converters

  • Although LLC resonant converters have the advantages of a wide operation range and high efficiency, the lack of an analytical solution for the peak gain makes it difficult to optimize the resonant tank design, when considering not only the normal condition but also the holdup time requirement. In this paper, based on a mathematical analysis of a LLC resonant converter at the peak gain point, an analytical solution for the peak gain has been developed. By using the developed analytical solution, the peak gain with given resonant tank parameters can be obtained. To confirm the validity of the developed analytical solution, simulations and experimental results are compared.

  • By using the state plane approach, the steady state analysis and desing of a high frequency LLC-type series resonant converter and LLC-type parallel resonant converter operating in the continuous conduction mode is presented. When a LLC-type P.R.C operates above resonant frequency, the switching transitor can be turn off at zero voltage. A set of characteristic frequency are plotted from which desing parameters can be obtained.

  • This paper deals with LLC resonant converter for communication power supply. Generally, the load range of communication power is very wide. However, voltage conversion ratio of LLC converter is highly dependent of load condition. So, it is not easy to design of robust power supply along with the wide load condition. Especially, it is not possible to meet the required low voltage conversion ratio for low output voltage with high input voltage under the light load condition. To solve this problem, in this paper, a new duty control interlinked with operational frequency has been proposed. To prove the usefulness of the proposed control method, the simulation and experiments were carried out. The simulation and experimental results show the usefulness of the proposed control method.

  • This paper proposes a new method to reduce 120Hz output voltage ripple of LLC converter using resonant voltage controller. This method can reduce the 120Hz output voltage ripple with very high gain at this frequency by the resonant controller with previous PI voltage controller. The reason why the voltage ripple can be reduced is explained by the Bode diagram comparing with the previous PI controller. The simulation with Matlab/Simulink is carried out for this resonant controller and the simulation results show that resonant controller can reduce the 120Hz output voltage ripple. Experiments with DSP controller also carried out and the experimental results also show that the usefulness of the proposed voltage controller.

  • An integrated two-in-one transformer applicable to PSUs for a 120 W LED TV is proposed. This transformer comprises a PFC inductor and an LLC transformer placed and integrated on an E-I-E type magnetic core. Performance is evaluated by observing the coupling coefficients of the proposed two-in-one transformer under various air gap topologies. Among the topologies studied, an integrated transformer with centered air gap shows stable operational characteristics with a minimized mutual coupling (interference). Furthermore, applicability of the proposed integrated transformer to PSUs for a 120 W LED TV is studied from the viewpoint of integrating different magnetic components into one core, resulting to low weight, low cost, and high power density.

  • 최근 PCS 시스템은 고집적화, 고효율화 그리고 고밀도화 되는 추세에 있다. 이러한 조건을 만족하기 위하여 두개의 공진탱크를 갖는 LLC 공진형 인버터와 LF(Low Frequency) Cyclo-converter로 구성된 PCS를 제안하였다. 본 논문에서는 제안된 회로의 동작모드와 이론에 대해 서술하였고 400W급 시제품을 제작하고, 계통전압(110Vac 60Hz)에 연결하여 실험 적용하였다.

  • 본 논문에서는 315W급 65인치 UHD-TV용 LLC DC to DC 공진 컨버터에 사용되고 있는 Slim형 고주파 변압기의 최적화 설계에 대해서 나타낸다. 또한 본 논문에서는 LLC 공진 변압기의 코어 손실 분석, AC 권선 손실 분석 및 권선 배치 최적화 설계를 통해 Slim형 고주파 변압기의 최적화 설계를 수행한다. 특히 본 논문에서는 이론적으로 해석하여 얻어진 결과를 토대로 고효율 및 Slim형 고주파 변압기는 교류 권선 손실 최소화 및 권선 자동화를 위하여 인터리브 및 수직형 권선 구조로 구성한다. 본 논문 제안한 수직형 권선 구조 방식의 Slim형 고주파 변압기의 1차측 권선은 Litz 권선을 2차 권선은 PCB와 동판 권선을 사용하였다. 최종적으로 Maxwell 2D 및 3D Tool을 이용한 시뮬레이션 결과를 토대로 이론 해석의 정당성을 입증하기 위해서 실험 결과를 통해 본 논문에서 제안한 Slim형 고주파 변압기의 최적화 설계를 수행하였다.

  • 본 논문은 다중출력 전원 시스템을 위한 새로운 구조의 영전류 스위칭(ZCS, Zero Current Switching) LLC 공진형 Post-regulator를 제안한다. 기존의 LLC 공진형 컨버터는 정밀한 다중 출력을 얻기 위해 추가의 비 절연형 DC/DC 컨버터가 요구되었고, 이는 전력 변환 효율 감소 및 제조 원가 상승의 단점을 갖고 있다. 제안된 Post-regulator는 각 정류 다이오드 및 전력 스위치의 내압 및 전류 스트레스가 작고, 부피가 큰 고가의 비 절연형 DC/DC 컨버터의 추가 대신 1 개의 보조 스위치만으로 구현되므로 구조가 간단하고, 저가격화에 유리하다. 또한, 제안된 Post-regulator의 모든 전력 스위치는 영전류 스위칭이 가능하므로 EMI 특성이 우수하며 스위칭 손실을 최소화 할 수 있다. 최종적으로 본 논문에서 제안된 전원 시스템의 동작 원리 및 타당성을 검증하기 위하여, 영전류 스위칭 LLC 공진형 Post-regulator의 실험 결과를 제시한다.

낮은 입력전압, 대전류 응용을 위한 2단 구성 승압컨버터 (Two Stage High Step-Up Converter for Low Input Voltage and High Current Applications)

  • DC-DC converter which composed of LLC resonant converter, operated by fixed switching frequency with fixed duty cycle (50%), and flyback converter to provide constant output voltage($400V_{DC}$) with variation of input voltage($30-60V_{DC}$) is proposed in this paper. To obtain constant output voltage($400V_{DC}$), flyback converter is not operated in case of above the maximum input voltage($60V_{DC}$) and operated as the input voltage decreases to below 60VDC. Therefore, flyback converter can be designed to the 50% power rating of the maximum power in the proposed DC-DC converter. Operation modes and voltage gain characteristics were analyzed and a 360W prototype converter was tested to verify the proposed converter.

  • The conventional phase-shifted full-bridge (PSFB) converter with an LC filter has been widely used for high-power applications of over 1.0 kW. However, the PSFB converter cannot obtain optimal power conversion efficiency during the battery charging in electric vehicle (EV) on-board battery charger applications because of its unique drawbacks, such as a large circulating current and very high voltage stress in the rectifier diodes. As a result, the converters with a capacitive filter, such as LLC resonant converters, replace the PSFB converter in the EV chargers. This study analyzes the problems of the PSFB converter for EV on-board charger applications in detail. Moreover, the newest converters based on the conventional PSFB converter are reviewed. On the basis of the reviews, new PSFB converter topologies are proposed for EV charger applications. The new topologies are formed by connecting the rectifier stage in the PSFB converter with the output of an LLC resonant converter in series. Many problems of the conventional PSFB converter for EV charger applications can be solved and the performance can be more improved because of this structure; this idea is confirmed by an experiment consisting of prototype battery chargers under the output voltage range of 250-450 Vdc at 3.3 kW.
