We present the near infrared JHK photometric properties and the spatial distribution of red supergiants(RSGs) of NGC 3623, NGC 3627 and NGC 3628 in the Leo Triplet system using the data obtained with 3.8m UKIRT(United Kingdom Infra-Red Telescope) at Hawaii. We checked interaction between the three galaxies by making a spatial density map of RSGs. From (J-K,K)0 Color-Magnitude Diagram which include resolved stars in three galaxy and control field with PARSEC isochrone, we figured out the RSG candidates of the Leo triplet are at 0.9<(J-K)0<1.2, mK<17.5 and separated them from background and foreground sources. Using gaussian kernel density estimation, we drew spatial density map of RSGs in the Leo triplet with an assumption that all RSGs are an identical population. The density map shows extended features of NGC 3628 to NGC 3627 along the declination direction. The asymmetries between NGC 3627 and NGC 3628 might be evidence for that the distribution of actual star components(RSGs) follows the neutral hydrogen distribution and also for interaction between two galaxies. And the extended features along the right ascension direction might be a supporting evidence for the existence of a TDG(Tidal Dwarf Galaxy). In case of NGC 3623, we could not see any sign of interaction in density map.
This paper proposes a routing scheme for multi-hop LEO satellite networks with inter-satellite links aiming for reducing the number of link handovers while keeping the efficient use of network resource. The proposed routing scheme controls the link handovers by taking account of the deterministic LEO satellite system dynamics, geographical location of a ground terminal and statistic information of call duration. The performance of the proposed routing scheme has been evaluated and compared with previous routing schemes in terms of average number of link handovers during a call, the call blocking and dropping probability, and the network utilization.

Satellite communication for high altitude platform stations (HAPS) and low earth orbit (LEO) systems suffer from dust and sand (DU&SA) storms in the desert regions such as Saudi Arabia. These attenuations have a distorting effect on signal fidelity at high frequency of operations. This results signal to noise ratio (SNR) to dramatically decreasing and leads to wireless transmission error. The main focus in this paper is to propose common relations between HAPS and LEO for the atmospheric impairments affecting the satellite communication networks operating above Ku-band crossing the propagation path. A double phase three dimensional relationship for HAPS and LEO systems is then presented. The comparison model present the analysis of atmospheric attenuation with specific focus on sand and dust based on particular size, visibility, adding gaseous effects for different frequency, and propagation angle to provide system operations with a predicted vision of satellite parameters' values. Skillful decision and control system (SD&CS) is proposed to control applied parameters that lead to improve satellite network performance and to get the ultimate receiving wireless signal under bad weather condition.

In the operation of a low earth orbit satellite, a series of antenna commands are transmitted from a ground station to the satellite within a visibility window (i.e., the time period for which an antenna of the satellite is visible from the station) and executed to control the antenna. The window is a limited resource where all data transmission is carried out. Therefore, minimizing the transmission time for the antenna commands by reducing the data size is necessary in order to provide more time for the transmission of other data. In this paper, we propose a geometric compression method based on B-spline curve fitting using dominant points in order to compactly represent the antenna commands. We transform the problem of command size reduction into a geometric problem that is relatively easier to deal with. The command data are interpreted as points in a 2D space. The geometric properties of the data distribution are considered to determine the optimal parameters for a curve approximating the data with sufficient accuracy. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method is superior to conventional methods currently used in practice.

To determine precise position GPS carrier phase measurements are used. In addition, the multi-antenna system consisting of 2 or more GPS antennas can make attitude determination effectively. When GPS carrier phase measurements are used the integer ambiguity must be fixed. The success rate is used to validate the integer ambiguity. For LEO satellite attitude determination the double difference carrier phase measurements are used, the success rate is calculated using the covariance matrix and the measurement matrix. The constraint that LEO satellite position vector and attitude vector is orthogonal is suggested for improving the success rate. The LEO satellite orbit model is KITSAT3. The results of the simulation are shown and analyzed.
The telemetry data received from satellite in real-time are used to monitor LEO satellite during the AIT (Assembly, Integration & Test) phase and the mission operation phase after launch. However, it is impossible to check all the incoming telemetry data from satellite in real time in order to detect abnormality of satellite quickly. Especially, the contact time of LEO satellite is limited because of its orbital characteristics. So the anomaly state of the LEO satellite should be detected and resolved during the contact time. Therefore, all incoming spacecraft telemetry data must be selected and manipulated in MIMIC. It is used in order to display summarized information about spacecraft in a visualized way that is quickly and easily understood. That is, it provides essential function to monitor a satellite both in orbit and during testing. In this paper, the design and development of MIMIC currently used in KOMPSAT, a LEO Earth observation satellite is described in detail. In future work, we plan to enhance MIMIC in order to improve user-friendliness and efficiency.

We present the results of new multi-color CCD photometry for the contact binary XZ Leo, together with reasonable explanations for the period and light variations. Six new times of minimum light have been determined. A period study with all available timings confirms Qian's (2001) finding that the O-C residuals have varied secularly according to $dP/dt\;=\;+8.20{\times}10^{-8}\;d\;yr^{-l}$. This trend could be interpreted as a conservative mass transfer from the less massive cool secondary to the more massive hot primary in the system with a mass flow rate of about $5.37{\times}10^{-8}\;M_{\odot}\;yr^{-l}$. By simultaneous analysis of our light curves and the previously published radial-velocity data, a consistent set of light and velocity parameters for XZ Leo is obtained. The small differences between the observed and theoretical light curves are modelled by a blue third light and by a hot spot near the neck of the primary component. Our period study does not support the tertiary light but the hot region which may be formed by gas streams from the cool secondary. The solution indicates that XZ Leo is a deep contact binary with the values of q=0.343, $i=78^{\circ}.8$, ${\Delta}(T_1-T_2)=126\;K$, and f=33.6 %, differing much from those of Niarchos et al. (1994). Absolute parameters of XZ Leo are determined as follows: $M_1=1.84\;M_{\odot},\;M_2=0.63\;M_{\odot},\;R_1=1.75\;R_{\odot},\;R_2=1.10\;R_{\odot},\;L_1=7.19\;L_{\odot},\;and\;L_2=2.66\;L_{\odot}$.

Satellites industry has been developing with the commercial and military needs. Because power system of satellites is very important to survival operation and hard to test, increasing reliability is very critical. Especially LEO small satellites are very sensitive to power system, effective stabilization control is important. Because of various need of load condition, converter design are complicated. Therefore this paper introduced general modeling of LEO small satellite converter system and analyzed stabilization control design. The performance prediction of LEO small satellites power system is typically critical. Because of verity controller and rectification value, it is hard to computation and test implementation. So, this approach has merit that will reduce cost and make more reliable system. Furthermore, it can be constraint of converter specification and controller design. This paper will examine generation a modeling of LEO small satellites power converting system, and a possible guide line to design reliable controller which optimizing power converters of LEO small satellite.

In recent years LEO(Low Earth Orbit) satellite communication systems have gained a lot of interest as high speed multimedia services by satellite are about to be provided. It is mandatory to use very efficient ECC(Error Correcting Code) to support high speed multimedia services over LEO satellite channel. Turbo codes developed by Berrou et al. in 1993 have been actively researched since it can achieve a performance close to the Shannon limit. In this paper, a LEO satellite channel model is adopted and the fading characteristics of LEO satellite channel are analyzed for the change of elevation angle in various propagation environments. The performance of turbo code is analyzed and compared to that of conventional convolutional code using the satellite channel model. In the simulation results using the Globalstar orbit constellations, performance of turbo codes shows 1.0~2.0dB coding gain compared to that of convolutional codes over all elevation angle and propagation environment ranges we have investigated. The performance difference resulting from the change of elevation angle in various propagation environments and the performance of different ECC are analyzed in detail, so that the results can be applied to choose an appropriate ECC scheme for various system environment.
The Optical Wide-field patroL-Network (OWL-Net) is a global optical network for Space Situational Awareness in Korea. The primary operational goal of the OWL-Net is to track Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites operated by Korea and to monitor the Geostationary Earth Orbit (GEO) region near the Korean peninsula. To obtain dense measurements on LEO tracking, the chopper system was adopted in the OWL-Net's back-end system. Dozens of angle-only measurements can be obtained for a single shot with the observation mode for LEO tracking. In previous work, the reduction process of the LEO tracking data was presented, along with the mechanical specification of the back-end system of the OWL-Net. In this research, we describe an integrity assessment method of time-position matching and verification of results from real observations of LEO satellites. The change rate of the angle of each streak in the shot was checked to assess the results of the matching process. The time error due to the chopper rotation motion was corrected after re-matching of time and position. The corrected measurements were compared with the simulated observation data, which were taken from the Consolidated Prediction File from the International Laser Ranging Service. The comparison results are presented in the In-track and Cross-track frame.
