LED 조명 기반의 무선 가시광 LAN 통신을 위한 MAC 프로토콜 설계 (MAC Protocol Design for Visual Light LAN using LED Light)

  • 본 논문에서는 LED 조명 기반의 우선 LAN 통신을 위한 MAC 프로토콜을 설계하였다. 본 논문에서 제안하는 MAC 프로토콜은 LED 조명과 단말기의 송수신 방향을 자동으로 최적화할 수 있는 특정이 있다. 또한, 방송메시지 송신 및 단말기 등록을 위한 초기통신 시간이 주기적으로 할당되어 있는 특징이 있다. 데이터 통신방식으로는 carrier의 센싱 및 충돌감지가 어려운 LED 가시광의 특징을 감안하여 기존의 무선 LAN 통신에서 사용되는 CSMA/CA(carrier sense multiple access with collision avoidance) 기반이 아닌 polling 기법을 사용하였으며, MAC 프레임 형식으로는 기존의 무선 LAN에 통신용 프레임을 수정하여 우선 가시광 LAN 통신에 적합한 MAC 프레임을 제안하였다. 이렇게 제안하는 MAC 프로토콜의 성능수치를 구하였으며, 무선 가시광 PHY 통신단의 데이터 전송속도를 100 Mbps로 가정하였을 때에 여러 가지 오버헤드를 제외하고 순수하게 데이터를 보낼 수 있는 데이터 전송량은 94.386 Mbps에 달하였다.

가시광통신체계에서 난반사 조명을 고려한 인코딩 스킴 (An Encoding Scheme Considering Diffused Lights In a Visual Light Communication System)

  • Visible light communication technology is being studied and developed in various ways due to advantages such as high transmission speed, excellent positioning and higher security. However, existing visible light communication systems have difficulties in entering the market because they use special transmitters and receivers. We will overcome the difficulty if we develope a VLC system that uses a conventional LED light as a transmitter and a smartphone camera as a receiver. What matters is that LED lights include a scatter filter to prevent glareness for human eyes, but the existing VLC(Visual Light Communication) method can not be applied. In this paper, we propose a method to encode data with On / Off patterns of LEDs in the lighting with $M{\times}N$ LEDs. We defined parameters like L-off-able and K-seperated to facilitate the recognition of On / Off patterns in the diffused Lights. We conducted experiments using an LED lighting and smart phones to determine the parameter values. Also, the maximum transmission rate of our encoding technique is mathematically presented. Our encoding scheme can be applied to indoor and outdoor positioning applications or settlement of commercial transactions.

LED transceivers with beehive-shaped reflector for visible light communication

  • This paper proposes a novel beehive-shaped reflector for application to light-emitting diode (LED) transceivers for illumination and bi-directional visible light communication (VLC). By using a diffuse propagation model extended to line-of-sight and direct signals, the distribution of illuminance and the path loss of the transceiver are investigated to evaluate the performance of the beehive-shaped reflector. To verify bi-directional communication, a VLC-based image capture system, comprising a complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) image sensor and video processor unit, is demonstrated. Real-time images captured by the CMOS camera are successfully transmitted to the monitoring system via a free-space channel at a rate of 115.2 kbps.

바이트반전 전송방식을 이용한 플리커 방지 가시광통신시스템 (Flicker-Free Visible Light Communication System Using Byte-Inverted Transmission)

  • In this paper, we newly developed a byte-inverted transmission method for flicker-free visible light communication (VLC). The VLC transmitter sends original data in the former half period of the clock, and inverted data and in the latter half period of the clock. The VLC receiver receives the original data in the in the former half period of the clock. In this system, we used 480Hz clock that was generated from the 60Hz power line. The average optical power of the LED array in the transmitter is constant, thus flicker-free, in the observation time longer than the period of the clock that is about 2ms. This period is shorter than the maximum flickering time period (MFTP) of 5ms that is generally considered to be safe. This configuration is very useful in constructing indoor wireless sensor networks using LED light because it is flicker-free and does not require additional transmission channel for clock transmission.

Illumination Control of LEDs in Visible Light Communication Using Manchester Code Transmission

  • In this paper, we introduce a new method for controlling the illumination of LEDs in visible light communication (VLC) by changing the duty cycle of Manchester code. When VLC data were transmitted in Manchester code, the average optical power of the LEDs was proportional to the duty cycle. In experiments, we controlled the illumination of a $3{\times}3$ LED array from 10% to 90% of its peak value by changing the duty cycle of the Manchester code. The synchronizing clocks required for encoding and decoding the Manchester code were supplied by pulse generators that were connected to a 220 V power line. All pulse generators made the same pulses with a repetition frequency of 120 Hz, and they were synchronized with the full-wave rectified voltage of the power line. This scheme is a very simple and useful method for constructing indoor wireless sensor networks using LED light.

고 선량 감마선 조사에 따른 고휘도 LED의 가시광 무선 데이터 전송 (VLC Wireless Data Transmission of High Luminance LED Irradiated by the High Dose-Rate Gamma-Ray)

  • In order to apply VLC (visible light communication) in harsh environment of nuclear power plant in-containment building, the high luminance LEDs, which are key components of the VLC system, have been gamma irradiated at the dose rate of 4 kGy/h during 72 hours up to a total dose of 288 kGy. The radiation induced coloration effect in the high luminance LED bulb made of acryl or plastic material was observed. In the VLC wireless data transmission experiment using the high luminance LEDs irradiated by high dose rate gamma-ray, the radiation induced coloration effect of the high luminance LED bulb extended the communication distance compared to non-irradiated LEDs.

  • LED 기반 가시광 통신 시스템은 RF통신과 달리 인체에 무해하며, 주파수 허가를 받을 필요가 없고, 보안 특성이 우수하며, 넓은 가시광 대역을 사용할 수 있는 시스템이다. 하지만 LED 발광을 조명과 광 데이터 전송으로 동시에 사용하기 위해 깜박거림 방지와 밝기 조절 기능의 구현이 요구되는데 이때 code rate의 열화가 발생한다. 따라서 고속 멀티미디어 데이터 전송을 위해 본 논문에서 가시광 통신 시스템에서 적용 가능한 line coding기법 Symbolic-PPM(Pulse Position Modulation)을 제안하고 기존의 VPPM(Variable Pulse Position Modulation) 기법과 비교하여 깜박거림 방지 및 밝기 조절 기능을 구현 한 상태에서 고속 데이터 전송을 위한 전송 효율 증가 효과를 모의실험을 통하여 검증하였다.

Indoor Positioning System using LED Lights and a Dual Image Sensor

  • In recent years, along with the rapid development of LED technology, indoor positioning systems based on visible light communication (VLC) have been researched. In this paper, we propose an accurate indoor positioning method using white-light LEDs and a dual image sensor. Indoor LED lights are located at the ceiling in a room and broadcast information on their positions using VLC technology. A mobile device with a dual image sensor receives LED position information by VLC and estimates its position and azimuth angle. Simulation and experimental results are given to show the performance of the proposed indoor positioning system.

  • 본 논문에서는 발광 다이오드(LED)를 이용한 가시광통신(VLC)을 통해 삼각측량기법을 사용하여 위치 측정 시스템을 위한 새로운 알고리즘을 제안한다. 각각 LED로부터 센서까지의 길이를 도출하고, 도출된 길이를 바탕으로 삼각측량법을 이용해 위치 정보를 찾아낸다. 기존의 가시광통신을 이용한 측위 시스템과는 달리, 제안된 측위 시스템은 송신기와 수신기 사이의 동기화가 필요하지 않으므로 더욱 간단하고 비용 효과적이다.

플리커 방지를 위한 바이트반전 가시광통신 시스템에서 조명 제어 방법 (Dimming Control Method in a Flicker-Free Byte-Inversion Visible Light Communication System)

  • In this paper, we introduce a new dimming control method in a visible light communication (VLC) system wherein byteinversion is adopted for flicker-free transmission. In the VLC transmitter, the original and the inverted data were sent sequentially and the remnant time in one period was used for the dimming control of the LED light. In the VLC receiver, only the original data was recovered using the gating signal whose width was the same as the length of the original data. In our experiments, the dimming control ranges were measured to be 22%-53%, 11%-76%, and 5%-88% of the CW LED light when the data rates were 9.6, 19.2, and 38.4 kbps, respectively. In this system, we used a 240-Hz sync pulse whose period was 4.16 ms, which was shorter than the maximum flickering time period of 5 ms that is generally considered to be safe. This configuration is very simple and useful in constructing indoor wireless sensor networks using the flicker-free LED lamps with dimming control capability.
