Green and Blue Light Emitting InN/GaN Quantum Wells with Nanosize Structures Grown by Metalorganic Chemical Vapor Deposition

  • The structural and electrical properties of InN/GaN multiple quantum wells, which were grown by metalorganic chemical vapor deposition, were characterized by transmission electron microscopy and electroluminescence measurements. As the quantum well growth time was changed, the wavelength was varied from 451 to 531 nm. In the varied current conditions, the blue LED with the InN MQW structures did not have the wavelength shift. With this result, we can expect that the white LEDs with the InN MQW structures do not show the color temperature changes with the variations of applied currents.

Morphology and Photoluminescence Characteristics of Halophosphate Phosphor Particles by Spray Pyrolysis and Flame Spray Pyrolysis

  • Flame spray pyrolysis was applied to improve the photoluminescence characteristics of blue-emitting $Sr_5(PO_4)_3Cl:Eu^{2+}$ phosphor particles with high brightness for the application to LED phosphor. $Sr_5(PO_4)_3Cl:Eu^{2+}$ prepared from conventional spray pyrolysis had poor PL intensity than that of commercial products under long-wavelength ultraviolet(UV). $Sr_5(PO_4)_3Cl:Eu^{2+}$ phosphor particles prepared by flame spray pyrolysis had PL intensity as same as that of commercial products under long-wavelength UV. Hollow morphology and porous structure of the particles prepared by the flame spray pyrolysis disappeared after posttreatment. Even though the $Sr_5(PO_4)_3Cl:Eu^{2+}$ phosphor particles prepared by the flame spray pyrolysis had irregular shape, the particles had dense structure and clear surface property.

  • This study is aimed to analyze the three-dimensional underwater irradiance using an optical simulation software and to clarify the propriety and operation method under considering luminous intensity distribution of the luring lamp and penetrability in the seawater, when we use the light diffuser type 300W high powered LED and the metal halide lamp (MHL) on a coastal squid jigging vessel in the 10-ton class, simultaneously. For their attenuation characteristics of each wavelength in relation to the sea, LED lamp was to be effective in the 1.9-fold at 50 m depth and 2.1-fold at 80 m for underwater irradiance more than MHL according to the power consumption. In addition, the underwater irradiance distribution using the LED and MHL combination was rather increased even when reducing total power usage up to 20% depending on the simulation with changing the configuration and lighting angle of the lamp. These results can be utilized as an evaluation method of the operation and performance of the LED lamp according to adjusting its arrangement and lighting angle.

  • 우리나라 주요 양식어종은 넙치, 조피볼락, 참돔이 전체 양식어종의 80% 이상을 차지하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 양식 어종의 다양화와 그에 따른 새로운 양식기법 도입을 위하여 LED파장을 이용하여 강도다리의 성장률을 계측하여 성장에 최적한 LED 파장을 규명하였다. 본 연구에 사용된 LED 파장의 조건은 Red 645nm, Green 525nm, Blue 465nm, 3차 혼합색인 White LED를 사용하였고, 전압의 차이에 따라 각 파장별 Package 배열에 차이를 두었다. 또한 연구에 사용된 조명은 적분구 측정을 통해 동일한 양의 방사속을 조사하도록 조절하여 진행하였으며 실험에 사용된 자어의 평균 체중은 $17.1{\pm}3.3g$, 체장은 $101.5{\pm}12.6mm$이였다. 자어는 사각형($60{\times}45{\times}45cm$) 순환 여과식 수조에 각각 10미씩 수용하여 12주간 사육하였고 매 1주에 체중 및 체장을 계측하여 성장률을 조사하였다. 연구 결과 Green 실험구에서 가장 높은 체중 증가율이 54.03%로 가장 높았으며 다음으로 White 실험구에서 38.47%, Red 실험구에서 36.98% Blue 실험구에서 34.72%로 나타났으며, 체장의 증가도 또한 Green 실험구에서 14.36% 가장 높았으며, White, Red, Blue 순서로 체장의 증가율이 나타났다. 본 연구결과로 강도다리는 사육환경에서 조명에 대한 영향을 크게 받는 것을 알 수 있으며, 나아가서 양식현장에의 적용 가능한 양식용 특수조명 개발과 공학을 기반으로 한 새로운 수산-LED 융합기술의 발전방향을 선도하는 중요한 기초연구가 될 것으로 판단된다.

Adjunctive effect of 470-nm and 630-nm light-emitting diode irradiation in experimental periodontitis treatment: a preclinical study

  • Purpose: This study investigated the adjunctive effect of light-emitting diodes (LEDs) in the treatment of experimental periodontitis. Methods: Experimental periodontitis was induced by placing ligatures around the mandibular second, third, and fourth premolars of 6 beagles for 3 months. After ligature removal, periodontitis progressed spontaneously for 2 months. The animals' hemimandibles were allocated among the following 3 groups: 1) no treatment (control), 2) scaling and root planing (SRP), and 3) SRP with LED irradiation at 470-nm and 630-nm wavelengths (SRP/LED). The probing pocket depth (PPD) and gingival recession (GR) were measured at baseline, 6 weeks, and 12 weeks. The clinical attachment level (CAL) was calculated. After 12 weeks, histological and histomorphometric assessments were performed. The distances from the gingival margin to the apical extent of the junctional epithelium (E) and to the connective tissue (CT) attachment were measured, as was the total length of soft tissue (ST). Results: PPD and CAL increased at 12 weeks compared with baseline in the control group (6.31±0.43 mm to 6.93±0.50 mm, and 6.46±0.60 mm to 7.61±0.78 mm, respectively). PPD and CAL decreased at 12 weeks compared with baseline in the SRP group (6.01±0.59 to 4.81±0.65 mm, and 6.51±0.98 to 5.39±0.93 mm, respectively). PPD and CAL decreased at 12 weeks compared with baseline in the SRP/LED group (6.03±0.39 to 4.46±0.47 mm, and 6.11±0.47 to 4.78±0.57 mm, respectively). The E/ST and CT/ST ratios significantly differed among the 3 groups (P<0.05). The clinical parameters and histologic findings demonstrated that 470-nm and 630-nm wavelength LED irradiation accompanying SRP could improve treatment results. Conclusions: Within the study limitations, 470 nm and 630 nm wavelength LED irradiation might provide additional benefits for periodontitis treatment.

  • An irradiator is developed using two UVA wavelength ranges of SMD LEDs as a curing light source. This module has dimensions of 545×111×300 mm3 and is equipped with a TIR bar-shaped lens made of PDMS silicone resin. The developed irradiator offers high uniformity, with 89% in the centerline of the horizontal axis direction, for two different wavelength ranges of 365 nm and 385 nm. The radiation intensity from the light source module shows highly directional characteristics, and the irradiator provides a maximum irradiance of 1,634 mW/cm2 at a working distance of 50 mm. During the initial 5 minutes of operation, the irradiance experiences a rapid decrease. However, this issue is addressed by optimizing the LED's current reduction characteristics and managing the Transistor's temperature rise in the constant current circuit. After continuous operation for approximately 60 minutes. The highest temperature, near the central part of the irradiating surface, reaches 69.7℃, while the lowest temperature, near the edges, is 41.1℃.

Effects of LED Light Quality of Urban Agricultural Plant Factories on the Growth of Daughter Plants of 'Seolhyang' Strawberry

  • This study was conducted to examine the influence of Light-Emitting Diode (LED) light quality in urban agricultural plant factories on the growth and development of Seolhyang strawberry daughter plants in order to improve the efficiency of daughter plant growth and urban agriculture. LED light quality by demonstrated that above-ground growth and development were greatest for daughter plant 2. Daughter plant 1 showed the next highest growth and development, followed by daughter plant 3. Among the different qualities of LED light, the stem was thickest and growth rate of leaves was highest for R + B III (LED quality: red 660 nm + blue 450 nm/photosynthetic photon flux density (PPFD): $241-243{\mu}mol{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}s^{-1}$) and lowest for R (red $660nm/115-117{\mu}mol{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}s^{-1}$). Plant height, leaf width, petiole length, and the leaf growth rate were highest for W (white fluorescent lamp/$241-243{\mu}mol{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}s^{-1}$) and lowest for R + B I (red 660nm+blue 450nm/$80-82{\mu}mol{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}s^{-1}$). For above-ground growth and development, as the plants surpassed the seedling age, mixed light (red + blue), rather than monochromatic light (red or blue), and higher PPFD values tended to increase development. Regarding the quality of the LED light, daughter plant 2 showed the highest chlorophyll content, followed by daughter plant 1, and daughter plant 3 showed the least chlorophyll content. When the wavelength was monochromatic, chlorophyll content increased, compared to that when PPFD values were increased. Mixed light vitality was highest in daughter plant 2, followed by 1, and 3, showed increased photosynthesis when PPFD values were high with mixed light, in contrast to the results observed for chlorophyll content.

InGaN UV bare칩을 이용한 $CaAl_{12}O_{19}:Mn^{4+}$ 형광체의 적색 발광다이오드 제조 (Fabrication of Red LED with Mn activated $CaAl_{12}O_{19}$ phosphors on InGaN UV bare chip)

  • [ $CaAl_{12}O_{19}:Mn^{4+}$ ] 적색 형광체는 $Mn^{4+}$이온이 0.02 mol 첨가되었을 때 최대 발광 세기가 관찰되었고 $1600^{\circ}C$, 3시간 소성조건에서 우수한 결정성과 발광 효율을 나타내며 중심 파장이 658 nm에서 관찰되었다. 본 연구에서 개발된 $CaAl_{12}O_{19}:Mn^{4+}$ 형광체를 에폭시와 함께 1:3으로 혼합하여서 InGaN UV 발광체의 Bare 칩 위에 코팅하여 중심파장이 658 nm인 적색 LED를 제조하였다. 적색 형광체를 이용하여, 기존의 UV LED를 여기 광원으로 다양한 느낌의 백색 발광체를 설계 할 수 있을 것이다.

  • 할라이드 페로브스카이트 나노결정은 고색순도 및 우수한 발광특성을 바탕으로 LED 응용에 대한 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 고온주입법을 통하여 $CsPbX_3$(X = I, Br, and Cl) 나노결정을 합성하였고 할로젠 이온의 조성 변화를 통하여 발광파장을 제어하였다. 고분자 바인더를 사용하여 녹색과 적색의 필름을 제작하였다. 합성된 나노결정 및 제작된 필름의 우수한 광특성을 확인하였고, 이를 InGaN 청색 LED칩에 적용하여 우수한 색영역의 wLED를 구현하였다.

  • 일련의 $Sr_{1-x}Ca_xGa_2S_4:Ce,Na$ 형광체를 고상법으로 합성하였다. $Sr_{1-x}Ca_xGa_2S_4:Ce,Na$의 구조와 발광 특성을 조사하였다. $Sr_{1-x}Ca_xGa_2S_4:Ce,Na$은 보라색 발광 다이오드의 발광 파장인 400 nm에서 강한 흡수가 있다. $SrGa_2S_4:Ce,Na$의 발광 봉우리는 448 nm와 485 nm에 있다. $Sr_{1-x}Ca_xGa_2S_4:Ce,Na$에서 Sr이 Ca으로 부분 치환되면 발광 파장이 장파장으로 이동된다. 다파장 백색 LED를 제작할 때 $Sr_{1-x}Ca_xGa_2S_4:Ce,Na$은 보라색 LED로 여기하여 청색 발광 형광체로 사용 될 수 있다.
