The aim of this study was to determine the effect of day-length extension treatment using LED lighting (blue, green, red, or 3 mixed) on vegetative growth and flowering of freesia 'Yvonne', in comparison to that using glow lamps and metal halide lamps. Lighting treatments were imposed from 5 PM to 8 PM for 150 days from after flower bud differentiation to flowering end. For the period from leaf emergence to floral bud formation, no light source affected plant height but the number of leaves was decreased by the metal halide lamp. The highest SPAD value in the flower bud developing period occurred in the metal halide lamp treatment. The time of flowering was advanced by blue or green LED treatment compared to the no lighting control. The green LED lighting advanced flowering by 6 and 8 days compared to no lighting and metal halide lamp treatment, respectively. The blooming period tended to be shortened by the red LED treatment. As for the flower characteristics of 'Yvonne', floret length and width, and the weight of cut flowers were highest in the metal halide lamp treatment. Red LED decreased corm width and weight of 'Yvonne' while glow lamp decreased height and weight. Starch contents in corm were not influenced by the lighting source. Our results indicate that the green LED lighting advanced the time of flowering and the metal halide lamp was good for cut-flower quality.

This research was performed to investigate the effect of light source and light quality in night break treatment on the growth and flowering of standard chrysanthemum. It was processed 4 hours (22:00-02:00) night break using LED 590, 610, 630, 660, 680nm and fluorescent lamp (mixed light of 480+540+610nm) in standard chrysanthemum 'Baekma' and 'Jinba' for 40 days from transplanting. The days to flower budding from short-day treatment of 'Baekma' were the longgest at fluorescent treatment (21.3 days) and were the shorttest at LED 590nm treatment (15.8 days) among all treatments. The days to flower budding from short-day treatment of 'Jinba' was longger with 18.0 days, 17.8 days, and 17.7 days at the fluorescent, LED 610nm, and 660nm treatments. And it was the shortest with 15.1 days in LED 590nm treatment. Similarly, the days to flowering from short-day treatment of 'Baekma' was the longgest with 56.9 days at fluorescent treatment, and was the shorttest in 51.6 days about LED 590 nm treatment. The days to flowering from short-day treatment of 'Jinba' was longer at fluorescent (56.0 days) and LED 660nm (56.7 days) treatments and was shortest at LED 590nm (52.9 days) among all treatments. Therefore, inhibition of flower bud initiation and flowering were the most effective under fluorescent treatment in case of 'Baekma', and fluorescent and LED 660nm treatments in case of 'Jinba'. The length and weight of cut flower of 'Baekma' and 'Jinba' were most excellent in fluorescent treatment in which the floral differentiation suppression effect was the best. Consequently, as to the growth and flowering of standard chrysanthemum, the treatment which was suitable as the light source and light quality for night break is regarded as the fluorescent lamp, and also under LED 660nm up to a certain level.
The physiological roles of various wavelength of light emitting diode (LED) on ‘Hayward’ kiwifruit experiencing after-ripening were investigated. Various wavelengths from LED light source were irradiated on kiwifruits kept in plastic bags or under open air at $25^{\circ}C$. During two weeks of storage, firmness of Hayward kiwifruits was decreased by $25^{\circ}C$ treatment than by $4^{\circ}C$ treatment. In the $25^{\circ}C$ storage condition, the firmness of kiwifruits was decreased by the treatment of 380 nm UV and 470nm white LED light source. Sweetness of kiwifruits treated with 380 nm UV LED and dark condition at $25^{\circ}C$ increased higher than $15^{\circ}$Brix. The acidity of kiwifruits under open air was decreased 52% by incubating at $25^{\circ}C$ with 660 nm red LED treatment. The acidity of kiwifruits in plastic bags was decreased 52.6, 55.6, 52.8% by the treatment of 440 nm blue, 470 nm white and 660 nm red LED light source, respectively, compared to that of kiwifruits incubated in darkness at $25^{\circ}C$. Decreased acidity irradiated by 660 nm red LED light source can be applied for regulating periods of the kiwifruit after-ripening process. LED light sources emit very narrow wavelength with a power-saving mode, therefore, the usage of these LED light source for regulating the after-ripening process can be classified as a clean biotechnology producing safe and environment-friendly kiwifruits.

This study was carried out to examine the effect of Red LED (660 nm) and fluorescent lamp for night break (NB) treatments of each 3 hours (22:30-01:30), 4 hours (22:00-02:00) and 5 hours (21:30-:02:30) per day for 53 days on flower bud initiation and growth in Chrysanthemum cv. 'Baekma' and cv. 'Jinba'. The days to flower budding after short-day treatment in 'Baekma' was longer at fluorescent lamp 4 hr (21.0 days) and 5 hr (20.5 days) NB, and it was shorter at Red LED 3 hr (14.2 days). The days to flowering after short-day treatment in 'Baekma' was longer at fluorescent lamp 4 hr (54.0 days), 5 hr (53.5 days) NB, and Red LED 5 hr (53.3 days), and it was shortest at Red LED 3 hr (50.2 days) NB treatment among all treatments. The days to flower budding after short-day treatment of 'Jinba' was longer at fluorescent lamp 4 hr (20.6 days) and was shorter at Red LED 3 hr (14.1 days) among all treatments. Similarly, the days to flowering after short-day treatment of 'Jinba' was longer at fluorescent lamp 4 hr (55.3 days) and was shortest at Red LED 3 hr (50.2 days) among all treatments. Therefore, inhibition of flower bud initiation was the most effective under fluorescent lamp 4 hr treatment. The length of cut flower of 'Baekma' was increased by fluorescent lamp 4 hr, 5 hr, and Red LED 5 hr, but of 'Jinba' was longer at LED 4 hr and 5 hr treatment. The weight of cut flower of 'Baekma' was heaviest at fluorescent lamp 5 hr treatment and was at Red LED 5hr treatment for 'Jinba' even though there was not statistically significant difference between 'Baekma' and 'Jinba'. Consequently, under fluorescent lamp 4 hr for night break was the most effective on flower bud initiation, flowering inhibition and cut-flower characteristics in 'Baekma' and 'Jinba'.

Plant height of Kalanchoe was enhanced under Red, regardless of treatment time. 2. Root length and stem diameter of Kalanchoe were enhanced by Red+Blue. 3. The number of internodes was not influenced by LED light quality. Length of flower stalk of Kalanchoe increased under Red+Blue, but treatment time did not result in statistically significant differences. 4. Leaf area was not influenced by LED light quality in Kalanchoe. 5. The number of flower buds and open flowers was decreased by LED light treatment, but days to flowering was reduced by Red+Blue for 4 hr after sunset in Kalanchoe. 6. Chlorophyll and anthocyanin content was not significantly affected by LED light treatment, but anthocyanin content tended to increase by Blue 4 hr after sunset. 7. Fresh and dry weight did not increased by LED light treatment in Kalanchoe.
This study investigated reduction of microbial population, water soluble pigment, capsanthin content, surface color (Hunter L, a, b, ${\Delta}E$), and sensory properties of pepper powder by LED (red, yellow, blue, green) treatments. LED (red, yellow, blue, green) treatment were conducted in 1,000 lux storage at $25^{\circ}C$ for 10 days. The total aerobic bacteria was no significant difference among the control and treated with LED during 10 days. In yellow LED treatment, yeast and molds were decreased about 1.76 log. Surface color such as lightness (L), redness (a), yellowness (b) were showed a decreasing tendency as the storage period. In the overall color difference (${\Delta}E$) of yellow LED treatment was lower less than 3.0. Water soluble pigment was no difference in control and LED treated samples during storage period. Capsanthin content was significantly decreased as storage period was increased, but no significant differences were observed among red and yellow LED treatments. Sensory properties of control was significantly reduced by storage period but yellow and green LED treatments were no significantly differences.
As one of photo dynamic therapies, the existing LED photo irradiation method with 635 nm continuous wave has most frequently been used for acne treatment, it suffered from a low energy efficiency and generation of a large amount of heat in tissues requiring improvement measures. In this thesis, a LED photo irradiation system for acne treatment has been designed using PWM(Pulse Width Modulation) mode to enhance the energy efficiency and prevent thermal destruction in tissues. System configuration consisting largely of timer module, PWM module, and photo transfer device has been designed with the use of 1 W LED at a wavelength of 660 nm for the photo transfer device to increase skin penetration depth for treatment of acne. Frequency and wave form generated by using PWM control was verified along with confirmation of output energy of 660 nm LED and surface temperatures of tissues, followed by evaluation of stable energy outputs and stability of tissues. The results indicated that whereas power loss was high and thermal destruction in tissues was exhibited when C.W mode was used to obtain the optical energy of 1 W LED at a wavelength of 660 nm for acne treatment, realization of PWM mode allowed lowering of power consumption for LED through pulse width modulation, and no occurrence of thermal destruction in tissues, suggesting that PWM mode is safer and more effective for treatment of acne than C.W mode.

Recently, as the interest in energy savings has increased, there has been increasing use of LED lighting, which is an eco-friendly device that replaces high energy consuming fluorescent lamps and incandescent lamps. In the case of a high output LED, however, the life time is shortened due to deterioration caused by heat generation. As a solution to this problem, this paper evaluated the LED life extension effect by increasing the convective heat transfer coefficient of the heat sink surface for LED packaging. A roughing process was carried out using sandpaper and sand blasting. The changes in surface roughness and surface area after each surface treatment process were evaluated quantitatively and the convective heat transfer coefficient was measured. When sandblasting and sandpaper were used to roughen the aluminum surface, a higher convection heat transfer coefficient was obtained compared to the untreated case, and a high heat dissipation efficiency of 82.76% was obtained in the sandblast treatment. Therefore, it is expected that the application of heat dissipation to the heat sink will extend the lifetime of the LED significantly and economically by increasing the heat efficiency.
As a result of advenced research, Penicillium growth inhibition effect in media of cauliflower mushroom by different LED lighting color inhibited all treated groups, but blue wavelength treatment group was unfitted for culture of cauliflower mushroom due to lots of spore of penicillium. So, to investigated characteristics of mycelial growth of cauliflower mushroom according to different LED wavelength and LED wavelength color. As a results, all red wavelength treatment groups found highest mycelial growth tendency. Thus, mycelial growth investigated different quantity of red lighting wavelength conditions. The quantity of lighting wavelength was low intention, 1.41 ${\mu}mol/m^2S$ treatment group found highest mycelial growth. Effects of mycelial growth by subculture found difference of statistical in one time to carry out a subculture treatment group. Mycelial growth by different quantity of LED lighting in different media composition of wood chip media indicated highest trend in the Korean pine treatment groups. To cultured treatment group for 84th days found difference of statistical, when a quantity of LED lighting red wavelength 2.11 ${\mu}mol/m^2S$ treated in wood chip of the Korean pine media. In conclusion, good culture condition of cauliflower mushroom estimated quantity of red lighting wavelength 2.11 ${\mu}mol/m^2S$ in wood chip media of the Korean pine for 84th days.
