  • Life cycle assessment(LCA) has been developed from the concept of life cycle thinking. Life cycle thinking implies that everyone in the whole chain of a product's life cycle, from cradle to grave, has a responsibility and a role to play, taking into account all the relevant external effects. LCA is an analytical tool for identifying environmental loads and assessing the environmental impact in the whole chain of a product's life cycle. In Europe and Japan, LCA and ecodesign study for railway industry have been actively carried out recently. However, LCA for railway industry in domestic is still infant. LCA is standardized in International Organization of Standardization(ISO), base on the ISO 14040 standards, 307 life cycle inventory(LCI) database for infrastructure and base materials have been established in total since 1999. Some of LCI database can use in performing LCA for trains and railway infrastructure, but still not enough to derive accurate LCA result. Therefore, railway oriented LCA methodology and LCI DB are needed to be developed.

  • Recent years, many industries acknowledge that environmental substantiality of products must be an essential role and it is one of the major importances for industries to consider the environmental impacts of products at the early stages of product development. This study investigated eco-design parameters and $CO_2-eq$. emissions in each stage of raw material acquisition, manufacturing, transportation, use and disuse in life cycle of touch monitor stand based on Eco-Design. In this study, to fulfill of Eco-Design, the environmental impact assessment of through LCA(Life cycle assessment) was carried out with benchmarking monitor stand and we suggested the direction of new design of touch monitor stand mechanism based on eco-friendly considerations. New design based on LCT(Life Cycle Thinking) showed that the following eco-friendly considerations at the early stage of design to be helpful to reduce GWP(Global Warming Potential) [kg $CO_2-eq$.] in new monitor stand development and it is necessary for Eco-Design process of the product.

  • The purpose of this study is to understand the characteristics and concepts behind Design for Environment(DfE) and Environmental Management System(EMS). This study highlights the success of domestics and foreign corporations that have utilized DfE and EMS as well as explored how DfT based EMS is being used in domestic corporations. Although corporations acknowledge that using environmentally conscious designs provide them with a competitive edge, only 53.6% of fashion corporations have established the environmental policies and use such tools. Furthermore, only 41% use DfE strategies for operating their corporations.
