  • The objective of ECMS(Environmentally Conscious Manufacturing Systems) is to consider environmental effects through the entire product life cycle from product development stage to design, manufacturing, supplying, using and disposing stage. Recently, environment-oriented recycling, reusing and manufacturing technologies have been researched actively in every engineering fields. In the field of chemical engineering, HHS (Health Hazard Scores) which classifies and analyzes hazardous materials in production processes has been presented. Metal cutting processes also have a lot of harmful factors, and especially hazardous components in cutting fluids have been known to have a bad effect on workers and working area. However, research works such as HHS have been little accomplished in metal cutting processes. In this research, a environmentally conscious machining process is presented by classifying hazardous components in cutting fluids, by using LCA(Life Cycle Assessments) and HHS method, and by evaluating environmental effects from cutting fluids.

  • As movie demands become more and more diversified, it is necessary for movie related firms to segment a whole heterogeneous market into a number of small homogeneous markets in order to identify the specific needs of consumer groups. Relevant market segmentation helps them to develop valuable offer to target segments through effective marketing planning. In this article, we introduce various segmentation methods and compare their advantages and disadvantages. In particular, we analyze "2009~2010 consumer survey data of Korean Film Industry" by using Latent Class Analysis(LCA), a statistical segmentation method which identifies exclusive set of latent classes based on consumers' responses to an observed categorical and numerical variables. It is applied PROC LCA, a new SAS procedure for conducting LCA and finally get the result of 11 distinctive clusters showing unique characteristics on their buying behaviors.

  • As environmental damage increase by a highly developed material civilization of today, many companies take a growing immensely interest in the influence of environment for beginning a new paradigm year by year. The previous assessments dose not run the gamut of industry but is confined within a certain facility or an area. Industrial processes and operations can not be accomplished independently but are connected with each others through suppliers and customer, and these ideas are fundamental notions of Life Cycle Assessment(LCA). This paper will introduce Life Cycle Assessment(LCA) in environment which is rising, and would like to build environmental management system using approach of Quality Function Deployment(QFD) and Safety Function Deployment(SFD) belonging to the assessment method.

  • The fishing industry has a negative effect on the environment due to greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions with the high use of fossil fuels, the destruction of underwater ecosystems by bottom trawls, reduction in resources by fishing, and altered ecosystem diversity. GHG emissions from fisheries were discussed at the Canc$\acute{u}$n meeting in Mexico in 1992 and are part of the Kyoto protocol in 2005. However, few studies have investigated the GHG emissions from Korean fisheries. To find a way to reduce GHG emissions from fisheries, quantitative analysis of GHG emissions from the Korean fishery industry is needed. Therefore, this study investigated the GHG emissions from the Korean Danish seine fishery using the life cycle assessment (LCA) method. The system boundary and input parameters for each process level are defined for the LCA analysis. The fuel-use coefficient of the fishery is also calculated. The GHG emissions from the representative fish caught by the Danish seine fishery are considered and the GHG emissions for the edible weight of fishes are calculated, considering consumption in different areas and different slaughtering processes. The results will help to understand the GHG emissions from Korean fisheries.

  • Corrosion behaviour of water intake gate steel structures with different protective measures was investigated. Five material alternatives were taken for investigation, including: imported and recycled stainless steel, carbon steel with hot zinc spraying, painting and composite coatings. Results of corrosion rate for carbon steel, SUS 304, hot zinc spray coats in three water systems of Mekong river basin (saline, blackish and fresh) were also presented. Corrosion rate of carbon steel decreased with decreasing salinity in the investigated water environments. Meanwhile, these values for zinc coated steel, behaved by another way. Environmental data for these systems were filed and discussed in relation with corrosion characteristics. Method of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) was applied in materials selection for water intake gate construction. From point of Life Cycle Cost (LCA) the following ranking was obtained: Zinc sprayed steel < Recycled stainless steel < Composite coated steel < Painting steel < SUS 304 From investigated results, hot zinc spray coating has been applied as protective measure for steel structures of water intake systems in Mekong river basin.

  • We present an efficient data structure to obtain the range minima in an away in constant time. Recently, suffix ways are extensively used to search DNA sequences fast in bioinformatics. In constructing suffix arrays, solving the range minima problem is necessary When we construct suffix arrays, we should solve the range minima problem not only in a time-efficient way but also in a space-efficient way. The reason is that DNA sequences consist of millions or billions of bases. Until now, the most efficient data structure to find the range minima in an way in constant time is based on the method that converts the range minima problem in an array into the LCA (Lowest Common Ancestor) problem in a Cartesian tree and then converts the LCA problem into the range minima problem in a specific array. This data structure occupies O( n) space and is constructed in O(n) time. However since this data structure includes intermediate data structures required to convert the range minima problem in an array into other problems, it requires large space (=13n) and much time. Our data structure is based on the method that directly solves the range minima problem. Thus, our data structure requires small space (=5n) and less time in practice. As a matter of course, our data structure requires O(n) time and space theoretically.

  • In this study, a quantitative environmental impacts assessment was performed for various power technologies with a lift cycle assessment (LCA) method. The LCA is regarded as a useful tool far analyzing diverse environmental impacts at a local, regional, and global aspect. The investigated power plants such as nuclear, coal, and LNC power systems were selected because they took share over $90\%$ of domestic elec-tricity supply in Korea. Furthermore, a wind power technology was included as a representative energy source out of Korean renewable energy systems. According to the three geological aspects, environmental impacts had been categorized into eight types. For these impact categories, characterization had been carried out for comparing environmental burdens of power systems under consideration. Then, normalization had been done in order to gain a better understanding of the relative size among impact categories.

  • Many policies have been implemented to mitigate the greenhouse gases in atmosphere overall of sectors. With considering the distinct characteristics of the food security, agricultural sector is no exception to this situation. To this regard, total amount of carbon which is emitted through all of the agricultural production process is calculated, and being based on this result, the demand for the introduction of agricultural production system with low carbon has been rising. Case studies on the application of life cycle assessment (LCA) technique to agricultural sector are found in many countries. For example, life cycle inventory (LCI) data bases of crop, farm infrastructure, fertilizer, farm machinery, and etc., have been constructed and provided by Ecoinvent (Swiss centre for life cycle inventories) of Swiss. In Japan, Top-down typed LCA methodology for agriculture is developed based on the inter-industry analysis, and is evaluated according to the productive method of crop. On the other hand, environmental impact assessment of agricultural system using LCA in Korea is just in the beginning stages. So it is required to assess environmental impact on agricultural fertilizer and pesticide, and to develop their flow modeling, and methodology of LCA of agricultural sector. Environmental impact assessment on agricultural materials, machinery, and infrastructure will also be carried out.
