  • This paper presents a new soft-switching boost converter based on the LC resonance and passive clamping technique without additional active switches. The circuit achieves high efficiency and low voltage stress by adopting a soft switching method using LC resonance. This paper gives a mathematical analysis of each mode and a detailed design procedure of the proposed boost converter. First of all, the operational principles are verified through simulation results. Then, according to the design procedure, we designed and built a 1.5[kW] prototype soft switching boost converter. Through the experimental results, we demonstrated the validity and usefulness of the proposed boost converter.

  • This paper presents the design and imelementation of an electronic ballast with a passive PFC structure from which acoustic resonance of the metal halide lamp was removed by introducing the frequency modulation(FM) method. The proposed ballast consists of an EMI filter, passive PFC circuit full-bridge inverter, LC resonance type igniter and a circuit for removing acoustic resonance. The FM method solved two problems associated with single frequency driving: variation of the acoustic resonance range according to lamp aging and the acoustic resonance range discrepancy caused by different materials sealed inside the arc tube and their pressures for arc tubes of identical sizes from different manufacturers. Performance of the prototype developed for this study of the electronic ballast for 1[kW] metal halide lamp was verified by evaluating its optical conversion efficiency, input PF, input current THD and power conversion efficiency.

  • Electricity living body formation operation appliance is using most imports until present. And, because electricity living body formation operation appliance is too expensive, it becomes burden to buy in small scale hospital. Also, problem that economical damage by income is added follows. Therefore, this treatise developed electricity living body formation operation appliance by home production. Ultra high frequency eruption circuit used LC circuit. and output frequency is possible to 8 [MHz], and output voltage amplified maximum 800 [V]. This operation appliance could display size of fixed current. This developed product could microscopic operation fewer than 1 [mm]. This development technology is considered by do metallic surface heat treatment, melting, welding, induction heating device and that can apply to domestic animals surgical operation and so on.

  • This paper presents a high-power electronic ballast for a metal-hallide lamp(MHL) that employs frequency modulation(FM) technique to eliminate acoustic resonance(AR). The proposed ballast consists of a full-bridge rectifier, a power factor correction(PFC) circuit, a full-bridge(FB) inverter, an ignitor using LC resonance and an FM control circuit. Whereas a manual PFC provides advantages in terms of high reliability and low cost for constructing the circuit, it is difficult to supply a stable voltage because of the output voltage ripple that occurs with a period of 120Hz. Although the ballast can be designed with a small size and a light weight if it is driven at a switching frequency between 1 and 100 kHz, AR will occur if the eigen-value frequency of the lamp coincides with the inverter's operation frequency. The operation frequency was modulated in real time according to the output voltage ripple to compensate for the variation in power supplied to the lamp and eliminate AR. Performance of the proposed technique was validated through numerical analysis, computer simulation using PSPICE and by applying it to an electronic ballast for a prototype 1kW MHL.

  • This paper describes a design and fabrication of an electronic ballast for 70[W]ceramic discharge metal halide lamps. The proposed ballast is composed of a rectifier, an active PFC, a half-bridge inverter, a LC resonant circuit and a controller. The design also includes a specially designed time circuit which provides reignition of the lamp. Running frequency of the ballast is set at 45[KHz]to avoid acoustic-resonance and flicker. from the test results, input power factor and efficiency of the ballast were estimated 91[%] and 97.7[%], respectively.

  • A new sustain driving method for the AC PDP is presented. In this driving method, the voltage source is connected to a storage capacitor, this storage capacitor charges an intermediate capacitor through LC resonance, and the panel is charged from the intermediate capacitor indirectly. In this way, the current flowing into the AC PDP when the sustain discharge occurs is reduced because the current is indirectly supplied from a capacitor, a limited source of charge. Thus, the input power to the output luminance efficiency is improved. Since the voltage supplied to the storage capacitor is doubled through LC resonance, this method call drive an AC PDP with a voltage source of about half of the voltage necessary in the conventional driving methods. The experiments showed that this charge-controlled driving method could drive ail AC PDP with a voltage source of as low as 107V. Using a panel of the conventional structure, luminous efficiency of 1.28 lm/W was achieved.

  • New concept of energy recovery for plasma display panel (PDP) Is proposed. Different from conventional LC resonant sustaining drivers, the current built up before inverting the polarity of the panel electrodes is utilized to change the panel Polarity together with energy Previously charged in Panel capacitance. This operation Provides zero -voltage-switching of switches and reduction of EMI by rejecting the surge current when the sustain switches are turned on. The build-up current helps to reduce transition time of panel polarity and may produce more stable light waveforms. This method shows a desirable characteristic that the circuit loss is similar to that of series resonant type energy recovery circuit which is very effective method.

  • As the supply of electric vehicles increases, research on wireless charging methods for convenience has been increasing. Because the electric vehicle wireless transmission device is installed on the ground and the electric vehicle battery is installed on the floor of the vehicle, the transmission and reception antennas are approximately 15-30 cm away, and thus strong magnetic fields are exposed during wireless charging. When a metallic foreign object is placed in the magnetic field area, an eddy current is induced to the metallic foreign object, and heat is generated, creating danger of fire and burns. Therefore, this study proposes a method to detect metallic foreign objects in the magnetic field area of a wireless electric vehicle charging system. An active detection-only coil array was used, and an LC resonance circuit was constructed for the frequency of the supply power signal. When a metallic foreign object is inserted into the charging zone, the characteristics of the resonance circuit are broken, and the magnitude and phase of the voltage signal at both ends of the capacitor are changed. It was confirmed that the proposed method has about 1.5 times more change than the method of comparing the voltage magnitude at one node.
