  • This paper is intended to develop a decision model that can be applied to autonomous vehicles and autonomous mobile vehicles. The developed module has an independent configuration for application in various driving environments and is based on a platform for organically operating them. Each module is studied for decision making on lane changes and for securing safety through reinforcement learning using a deep learning technique. The autonomous mobile moving body operating to change the driving state has a characteristic where the next operation of the mobile body can be determined only if the definition of the speed determination model (according to its functions) and the lane change decision are correctly preceded. Also, if all the moving bodies traveling on a general road are equipped with an autonomous driving function, it is difficult to consider the factors that may occur between each mobile unit from unexpected environmental changes. Considering these factors, we applied the decision model to the platform and studied the lane change decision system for implementation of the platform. We studied the decision model using a modular learning method to reduce system complexity, to reduce the learning time, and to consider model replacement.

Modified Approaches to Delay Estimation for the Work Zones in the Proximity of the Signalized Intersections (공사구간이 있는 신호교차로의 지체산정을 위한 새로운 접근)

  • Unlike its archetype predecessor such as the Highway Capacity Manual of the United States, the Korean Highway Capacity Manual of 2013 provides the analytical models for estimating the saturation flow rates for the lane-occupying work-zones in the proximity of the signalized intersections. Direct application of the revised saturation flow rates into the classic control delay models, however, appears to produce unreasonable delay amount as traffic demand approaches lane-group capacities and surpasses them, which is common phenomena in the work-zones. Complex interaction among vehicles, lane-dropping work-zone geometry and signal operations were never accounted in the traditional control delay models, and considerable differences between the delay model outcomes and field observations are repeatedly experienced. This paper proposes the modified approaches to the delay models in the manual, exerted on all three elements of control delay, and particularly focuses on the temporal and spatial boundary expansion in comparing the simulated results to the estimated ones. Extensive microscopic simulation work and calibration effort supports the modified approaches well enough to use them in the work-zone planning and evaluation.

Development of the Expected Safety Performance Models for Rural Highway Segments (지방부 국도의 사고예측모형 개발에 관한 연구)

  • The past researches on roadway segment safety estimation focused on intersections, which are the primary traffic accident regions. The past researches on roadway segments, However, analyzed the effects of certain factors on the traffic accident occurrence rate by organizing the individual geometric structures of the roads, and there is still a dearth of researches on the development of a traffic accident estimation model for rural roadway segments. Therefore, this research focused on rural two-lane and multilane roadway segments and developed traffic accident estimation models through the application of statistical techniques. This is required to explain such high frequency of zero counts in the traffic accident data. In this research, it was found that the Hurdle model is more suitable than the Poisson or negative binomial-regression model for explaining the excess zeros case. In addition, main variables were chosen to estimate their effects on traffic accident occurrence at rural roadway segments, and the safety at such rural roadway segments was estimated. In this research, it was assumed that there are different factors that affect the safety at two-way lane and multilane roadway segments, and a traffic accident estimation model was developed by dividing the two-way lane and multilane roadway segments.

Model Development Determining Probabilistic Ramp Merge Capacity Including Forced Merge Type (강제합류 형태를 포함한 확률적 연결로 합류용량 산정 모형 개발)

  • Over the decades, a lot of studies have dealt with the traffic characteristics and phenomena at a merging area. However, relatively few analytical techniques have been developed to evaluate the traffic flow at the area and, especially, the ramp merging capacity has rarely been. This study focused on the merging behaviors that were characterized by the relationship between the shoulder lane flow and the on-ramp flow, and modeled these behaviors to determine ramp merge capacity by using gap acceptance theory. In the process of building the model, both an ideal mergence and a forced mergence were considered when ramp-merging vehicles entered the gap provided by the flow of the shoulder lane. In addition, the model for the critical gap was proposed because the critical gap was the most influential factor to determine merging capacity in the developed models. The developed models showed that the merging capacity value was on the increase as the critical gap decreased and the shoulder lane volume increased. This study has a meaning of modeling the merging behaviors including the forced merging type to determine ramp merging capacity more precisely. The findings of this study would help analyze traffic phenomena and understand traffic behaviors at a merging area, and might be applicable to decide the primary parameters of on-ramp control by considering the effects of ramp merging flow.

Development of Operating Speed Prediction Models Reflecting Alignment Characteristics of the Upstream Road Sections at Four-Lane Rural Uninterrupted Flow Facility (상류부 선형특성을 반영한 지방부 왕복 4차로 연속류 도로의 주행속도 예측모형 개발)

  • The study is about the development of operating speed prediction models aimed for an evaluation of design consistency of four lane rural roads. The main differences of this study relative to previous research are the method of data collection and classification of road alignments. The previous studies collected speed data at several points in the horizontal curve and approaching tangent. This method of collection is based on the assumption that acceleration and deceleration only occurs at horizontal tangents and the speed is kept constant at horizontal curves. However, this assumption leads to an unreliable speed estimation, so drivers' behavior is not well represented. Contrary to the previous approach, speed data were collected with one and data analysis using a speed profile is made for data selection before building final models. A total of six speed prediction models were made according to the combination of horizontal and vertical alignments. The study predicts that the speed data analysis and selection for model building employed in this study can improve the prediction accuracy of models and be useful to analyze drivers' speed behavior in a more detailed way. Furthermore, it is expected that the operating speed prediction models can help complement the current design-speed-based guidelines, so more benefits to drivers as real road users, rather than engineers or decision makers, can be achieved.

Determination of Base Capacity Values for Short-Term Freeway Work Zone (고속도로 단기공사구간 기본용량 결정에 관한 연구)

  • Lane closure in freeway work zone due to maintenance and repair of freeway facilities results in abrupt change of traffic flow. Sudden change of traffic flow results strong interactions among vehicles, and reduces capacity compared to the ordinary traffic condition. Such capacity reduction is likely to cause congestion, traffic queues, and economic loss cost. This study aims to determine the base capacity for a short-term freeway work zone that can be used to establish a work zone schedule in advance without any traffic impact. First, the research collected detector data and schedule data of road works on all freeways in Korea. Second, the research determined 23 study sites finding the capacity values of work zone after matching two kinds of data. All study sites had varying characteristics regarding traffic flow being adjacent to work zone during road works. The capacity values were reviewed in terms of lane closure configuration, the types of work, and design speed. Finally, research proposed capacity values for a short-term freeway work zone with the design speeds of 100 kph, 120 kph and 1,700 pcphpl, 1,750 pcphpl, respectively.

A Study on the Operation for Dynamic Bus-Only Hard Shoulder Running on Expressway (고속도로 동적 갓길버스전용차로제 운영방안에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, the dynamic hard shoulder running for bus only (HSRFBO) was presented to solve the traffic congestion by increase the capacity in chronic congested sections of highways, and a simulation was performed to evaluate the comparison with the current hard shoulder running for all vehicles(HSRFAV) and median bus only lane and HSR(MBOLHSR). According to the evaluation results, it was evaluated to be more advantageous in terms of traffic flow and safety than the current HSRFAV. In addition, the speed of passing buses is slightly reduced compared to the MBOHSR, but the speed of entering and exiting buses is increased and the speed of buses and cars is greatly improved. Therefore It was analyzed that the efficiency of transport personnel was also improved. In particular, it is expected that traffic flow will be stabilized as the difference in speed between passenger cars and buses will be greatly reduced, and violations of exclusive bus lanes by passenger cars will be greatly reduced. In addition, the operation time of HSR is greatly reduced, so that the original function of the shoulder lane can be maintained as much as possible. As a result, it was analyzed that the risk of accidents was significantly reduced when operating HSRFBO compared to when operating MBOHSR, and cross-conflicts with high accident severity did not occur.

  • 이 본문은 자선의 경계가 있는 도로에서 촬영된 흑백영상에서 차선에 관한 정보를 찾아 검출하는 알고리즘을 계안한다. 영상을 블록 단위로 나누고 직선회귀모형(Linear Regression Analysis)을 사용하여 블록내의 기울기와 y절편(y-intercept)을 구한다. 블록의 회귀직선의 기울기에 따라 다음 검출위치를 결정하는 방법을 사용하여 시간석인 부분과 검출의 정확도를 높이고자 하였다.

  • As an application of GPS is increased by world geodetic system introduction gradually, in this time, It is increased necessary of GPS baseline analysis program development. In this study, I developed a baseline analysis program by L1/L2 carrier. And I compared a baseline analysis result with a commercial program. I showed precision of approximately ${\pm}$1cm in a baseline length in case of Narrow lane as a result that a baseline analysised a developed program.

  • In this paper, we presents the algorithm which is to recognize the traffic sign on the road the traffic signal in a video image for autonomous navigation. First, the rocognition of traffic sign on the road can be detected using boundary point estimation form some scan-lines within the lane deducted. For this algorithm, index matrix method is used to detemine what sign is. Then, the traffic signal recognition is performed by usign the window minified by several scan-lines which position may be expected. For this algoritm, line profile concept is adopted.
