'The Regional complex long-term program of restoration (reintroduction) of Primoryes ginseng population up to 2005' elaborated by Primorye governor administration, Regional Committee of Natural Resources and Russian Academy of Sciences operates in Russian Primorye. The Institute of Biology and Soil Science (IBSS) provides the scientific implementation of this program including the genetic analysis of extant ginseng populations, plant reproduction and offspring identification. According to our investigations, the genetic resource of P. ginseng in Primorye is represented by three populations of wild-growing ginseng and a few private plantations. The results obtained by RAPD allowed concluding that this resource is dispersed among the wild and cultivated ginseng sub-populations in such a way that each of sub-populations studied has to be represented in living plant collection as a stock material to maintain species genetic variability. The allozyme analyses also showed that the small sub-populations of natural ginseng are characterized by unique genetic diversity and, therefore, they all need to be represented in reintroduction centers. Additionally the allozyme analysis discovered that the Blue Mountain and Khasan populations possess the most genetic diversity. So, at least one more reproductive ginseng unit has to be created besides two already existing reintroduction centers representing the Sikhote-Alin and the Blue Mountain populations.
Podophyllotoxin (PT), a lignan compound from the roots and rhizomes of Podophyllum peltatum, has diverse pharmacological activities including anticancer effect in several types of cancer. The molecular mechanism of the anticancer effects of PT on colorectal cancer cells has not been reported yet. In this study, we sought to evaluate the anticancer effect of PT on human colorectal cancer HCT116 cells and identify the detailed molecular mechanism. PT inhibited the growth of cells and colony formation in a concentration-dependent manner and induced apoptosis as determined by the annexin V/7-aminoactinomycin D double staining assay. PT-induced apoptosis was accompanied by cell cycle arrest in the G2/M phase and an increase in the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). The effects of PT on the induction of ROS and apoptosis were prevented by pretreatment with N-acetyl-L-cysteine (NAC), indicating that an increase in ROS generation mediates the apoptosis of HCT116 cells induced by PT. Furthermore, Western blot analysis showed that PT upregulated the level of phospho (p)-p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK). The treatment of SB203580, a p38 inhibitor, strongly prevented the apoptosis induced by PT, suggesting that PT-induced apoptosis involved the p38 MAPK signaling pathway. In addition, PT induced the loss of mitochondrial membrane potential and multi-caspase activation. The results suggested that PT induced cell cycle arrest in the G2/M phase and apoptosis through the p38 MAPK signaling pathway by upregulating ROS in HCT116 cells.
The thermal stability, magnetic and magnetocaloric properties of $Gd_{55}Co_{35}M_{10}$ (M = Si, Zr and Nb) melts-pun ribbons were studied. The relatively high reduced glass transition temperature ($T_{x1}/T_m$ > 0.60) and low melting point ($T_m$) resulted in excellent glass forming ability (GFA). The Curie temperatures ($T_C$) of melt-spun amorphous ribbons $Gd_{55}Co_{35}M_{10}$ for M = Si, Zr and Nb were 166, 148 and 173 K, respectively. For a magnetic field change of 2 T, the values of maximum magnetic entropy change $(-{\Delta}S_M)^{max}$ for $Gd_{55}Co_{35}Si_{10}$, $Gd_{55}Co_{35}Zr_{10}$ and $Gd_{55}Co_{35}Nb_{10}$ were found to be 2.86, 4.28 and $4.05J\;kg^{-1}K^{-1}$, while the refrigeration capacity (RC) values were 154, 274 and $174J\;kg^{-1}$, respectively. The $RC_{FWHM}$ values of amorphous alloys $Gd_{55}Co_{35}M_{10}$ (M = Si, Zr and Nb) are comparable to or larger than that of $LaFe_{11.6}Si_{1.4}$ crystalline alloy. Large values of $(-{\Delta}S_M)^{max}$ and RC along with good thermal stability make $Gd_{55}Co_{35}M_{10}$ (M = Si, Zr and Nb) amorphous alloys be potential materials for magnetic cooling operating in a wide temperature range from 150 to 175 K, e.g., as part of a gas liquefaction process.

Cashew (Anacardium occidentale L.) is an important cash crop in Tanzania as a source of income to cashew growers and provides foreign exchange for the country. Despite its significance, the crop is threatened by fast spreading disease known as cashew Fusarium wilt caused by Fusarium oxysporum. Field assessment and laboratory tests were conducted to determine incidences of the disease, severity, ecological factors that influence them and explored the pathogen host specificity in six cashew growing districts. The results revealed significant (P<0.001) variation of disease incidences and severity among the studied districts. The results further revealed that there is both positive and negative correlation between the incidence and severity of the disease versus the evaluated ecological factors. The soil pH, soil temperature, air temperature, and relative humidity depicted positive correlation of disease incidence and severity versus ecological factors at ρ=0.50 and ρ=0.60, ρ=0.20 and ρ=0.94, ρ=0.11 and ρ=0.812, ρ=0.05 and ρ=0.771 respectively while nitrogen, phosphorus, and carbon depicted negative correlations at ρ=-0.22 and ρ=-0.58, ρ=-0.15 and ρ=-0.94, ρ=-0.19 and ρ=-0.12 respectively. In terms of host range, none of the weed species was found to be a carrier of Fusarium pathogen implying that it is host specific or semi selective. The results revealed that the tested ecological parameters favor the growth and development of Fusarium pathogen. Thus, management of the disease requires nutrients replenishment and soil shading as essential components in developing appropriate strategies for the control and prevention of further spread of the disease.

Cucumber fruit mottle mosaic tobamovirus (CFMMV) causes severe mosaic symptoms with yellow mottling on leaves and fruits, and occasionally severe wilting of cucumber plants. No genetic source of resistance against this virus has been identified. The genes coding for the coat protein or the putative 54-kDa replicase were cloned into binary vectors under control of the SVBV promoter. Agrobacterium-mediated transformation was peformed on cotyledon explants of a parthenocarpic cucumber cultivar with superior competence for transformation. R1 seedlings were evaluated for resistance to CFMMV infection by lack of symptom expression, back inoculation on an alternative host and ELISA. From a total of 14 replicase-containing R1 lines, 8 exhibited immunity, while only 3 resistant lines were found among a total of 9 CP-containing lines. Line 144 homozygous for the 54-kDa replicase was selected for further resistance analysis. Line 144 was immune to CFMMV infection by mechanical and graft inoculation, or by root infection following planting in CFMMV-contaminated soil. Additionally, line 144 showed delay of symptom appearance following infection by other cucurbit-infecting tobamoviruses. Infection of line 144 plants with various potyviruses and cucumber mosaic cucumovirus did not break the resistance to CFMMV. The mechanism of resistance of line 144 appears to be RNA-mediated, however the means is apparently different from the gene silencing phenomenon. Homozygote line 144 cucumber as rootstock demonstrated for the first time protection of a non-transformed scion from soil inoculation with a soil borne pathogen, CFMMV.
The TANDEM project is a European initiative funded under the EURATOM program. The project started on September 2022 and has a duration of 36 months. TANDEM stands for Small Modular ReacTor for a European sAfe aNd Decarbonized Energy Mix. Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) can be hybridized with other energy sources, storage systems and energy conversion applications to provide electricity, heat and hydrogen. Hybrid energy systems have the potential to strongly contribute to the energy decarbonization targeting carbon-neutrality in Europe by 2050. However, the integration of nuclear reactors, particularly SMRs, in hybrid energy systems, is a new R&D topic to be investigated. In this context, the TANDEM project aims to develop assessments and tools to facilitate the safe and efficient integration of SMRs into low-carbon hybrid energy systems. An open-source "TANDEM" model library of hybrid system components will be developed in Modelica language which, by coupling, will extend the capabilities of existing tools implemented in the project. The project proposes to specifically address the safety issues of SMRs related to their integration into hybrid energy systems, involving specific interactions between SMRs and the rest of the hybrid systems; new initiating events may have to be considered in the safety approach. TANDEM will study two hybrid systems covering the main trends of the European energy policy and market evolution at 2035's horizon: a district heating network and power supply in a large urban area, and an energy hub serving energy conversion systems, including hydrogen production; the energy hub is inspired from a harbor-like infrastructure. TANDEM will provide assessments on SMR safety, hybrid system operationality and techno-economics. Societal considerations will also be encased by analyzing European citizen engagement in SMR technology safety.
The rose bitterling, Rhodeus ocellatus (KNER) is commonly distributed in the fresh waters of Korea and Japan. On January 15, February 15, and March 18 in 1984, mature adults of rose bitterling were caught in the watercourse of Maeri, Kimhae, South Korea. The authors fertilized the eggs employing dry method in the laboratory on May 7, 16 and 25 in 1984. Hatched larvae were reared in small aquariums at $17{\sim}25.5^{\circ}C$ (average around $21.2^{\circ}C$). Mollusks, Anodonta woodiana in the gill chamber of which, rose bitterling lay eggs were caught in order to study natural spawning of the rose bitterling in the same watercourse. The eggs of this species are not adhesive and demersal. The size of the eggs varies from 2.54 to 2.75mm in long diameter and 1.45 to 1.65mm in short diameter. The eggs are cylindrical in form when they are extruded from ovipositor, immediately after entering water, but they acquire their distinctive form of a greatly elongated pear. Hatching took place in ca. 39 hours after fertilization. The newly hatched larvae were $2.65{\sim}2.70mm$ in total length possessing yolk sac and 13-14 myotomes. Thirteen days after hatching, the prelarvae attained 6.5 mm in total length, and the first melanophores appeared on the head, and the anterior part and sides of the yolk sac. One month after hatching, the postlarvae attained 8.5mm. in total length and emerged from the gills of the mollusks. Then the yolk sac was completely resorbed. Two months after hatching, the rose bitterling attained 14.4mm in total length, and entered the fingerling period of life. All the rays already present were the D. III, 11-12, A. III, 11-12, P. 10, V. 7. and a distinguishing, feature is the presence of a black pigment spot in the lobe of the dorsal fin.
Licochalcone (LC), isolated from the roots of Glycyrrhiza inflata has multiple pharmacological effects including anti-inflammatory and anti-tumor activities. To date, Licochalcone C (LCC) has induced apoptosis and inhibited cell proliferation in oral and bladder cancer cells, but lung cancer has not yet been studied. In addition, no study reported LCC-induced autophagy in cancer until now. The present study was designed to investigate the effect of LCC on gefitinib-sensitive and -resistant lung cancer cells and elucidate the mechanism of its action. The 3-(4,5-Dimethyl-2-thiazolyl)-2,5-diphenyl-2H-tetrazolium bromide assay data showed that LCC significantly inhibited cell viability in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) HCC827 (gefitinib-sensitive) and HCC827GR (gefitinib-resistant) cell lines. Interestingly, Annexin V/7-aminoactinomycin D double staining and cell cycle analysis showed an apoptosis rate within about 20% at the highest concentration of LCC. LCC induced G2/M arrest by reducing the expression of the cell cycle G2/M related proteins cyclin B1 and cdc2 in NSCLC cell lines. Treatment of LCC also induced autophagy by increasing the expression of the autophagy marker protein microtubule-associated protein 1 light chain 3 (LC3) and the protein autophagy-related gene 5 involved in the autophagy process. In addition, LCC increased the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), and the cell viability was partially restored by treatment with the ROS inhibitor N-acetyl-L-cysteine. In western blotting analysis, the expression of cdc2 was increased and LC3 was decreased by the simultaneous treatment of NAC and LCC. These results indicate that LCC may contribute to anti-tumor effects by inducing ROS-dependent G2/M arrest and autophagy in NSCLC. In conclusion, LCC treatment may be useful as a potential therapeutic agent against NSCLC.
In older to prepare functional food materials from Acanthopanax koreanum, changes of major constituents by extracting with water and ethanol were investigated Extracting 300 g of below 0.5 cm size dried sample in 7.5 L of water or $30{\sim}95%$ ethanol for 9 hr at $100^{\circ}C$ were carried out pH during extraction was between 4.0 and 6.5. Color b-value of extracts was increased according to lower ethanol concentration and longer extraction time. Color a-value and b-value was increased more in stem than in root Extracts were increased rapidly within $2{\sim}3\;hr$. The extract in $30{\sim}70%$ ethanol was $0.84{\sim}1.34%(w/v)$ with root Main free sugar of extracts was sucrose in root. The eleutherosides were extracted rapidly within 3 hr, moreover were increased in water or $30{\sim}70%$ ethanol more than 95% ethanol concentration. Extraction of acanthoic acid from root was more affected on ethanol concentration than extracted time, moreover it was detected only trace by extracting with water. Furthermore, acanthoic acid was extracted rapidly within 2 hr in $50{\sim}70%$ ethanol, and was extracted 3 times higher with 70% ethanol than with 30% ethanol. The content of acanthoic acid in residue after extraction was affected largely by extraction solvents. The extraction efficiency in 70, 50 and 35% of ethanol concentration was about 95, 90 and 35% respectively. The eleutherosides were extracted to 95% with water or nature of water and ethanol. Therefore, the reflux extraction in $40{\sim}70%$ ethanol concentration for $3{\sim}5\;hr$ was adequate for extraction of functional materials from Acanthopanax koreanum.

One of the most important and basic test of dental restorative materials is the evaluation of microleakage into the tooth-restorative interface. There are many techniques to test microleakage, but most of them have several disadvantages. Recently developed microtomography(micro-CT) can provide the three dimensional image and information about the internal component in non-destructive way, therefore using micro-CT, it is possible to evaluate microleakage exactly in quantitative manner. The purpose of this study is to find a new method for quantitative and non-destructive evaluation of microleakage in composite resin restorations using micro-CT and to compare the new method with conventional dye penetration method. Thus, microleakages of two kinds of dentin bonding systems were evaluated with above two methods. 40 extracted sound human premolars were randomly divided into two groups consisting of 20 samples and restored accordingly. Group 1 : Class V resin restorations with $Adper^{TM}$ Singe Bond Group, 2 : Class V resin restorations with $Adper^{TM}\;Promp^{TM}$ L-pop. The $Filtek^{TM}$ Supreme was applied to the Class V cavities of all teeth. After that, 10 teeth from each group were applied to evaluation of microleakage using micro-CT, and other 10 teeth from each group were using conventional dye penetration method. The conclusions of this study were as follow : 1 Using micro-CT, Group 1 showed significantly less microleakage than Group 2 and there was statistically significant difference(p<0.01) between two groups. 2. Using conventional dye penetration method, Group 1 leaked less than Group 2 and there was statistically significant difference(p<0.01) between two groups 3. The difference between two groups is more evident in the method using micro-CT. 4. In all two methods, microleakage appeared more into the cavities to dentinal margins than enamel margins.
