This paper investigated rheological properties of binder pastes for self-compacting high performance concrete. Six mixtures of self-compacting concrete were initially prepared and tested to estimate self-compacting property. Then, the binder pastes used in self-compacting concrete were tested for rheological properties using a rotary type rheometer. Binder pastes with different water-binder ratios arid flow values were also examined to evaluate their rheological characteristics. The binders were composed of ordinary Portland cement, fly ash, two types of pulverized blast-furnace slag, and limestone powder. The flow curves of binder pastes were obtained by a rotary type rheometer with shear rate control. Slump flow, O-funnel time, box, and L-flow teats were carried out to estimate self-compacting property of concrete. The flow curves of binder pastes for self-compacting concrete had negligible yield stresses and showed an approximately linear behavior at higher shear rates beyond a certain limit. Test results also indicated that the binders incorporating fly ash are more appropriate than the other types of binders in quality control of self-compacting concrete.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the practical application of the self consolidating concrete for the steel concrete pannel (SCP) in module LNG storage tank proposed in the previous research. We evaluated the physical properties and filling performance of developed concrete for the SCP module. First, a slump flow test was conducted to evaluate the performance of the proposed guidelines for the filling test. As a result, all of the concrete used showed satisfactory performance. Based on the results of the previous study, it was found that the reliability of the required time measured by the $T_{500}$ test and the rheometer results measured before and after pumping was 0.94 which means the separation and blocking should not occur. The L-box test and the U-box test were conducted before and after pumping. All of the guidelines suggested showed satisfactory performance. SCP module for LNG storage tanks was fabricated on actual size scale to evaluate the practical application at the final site. As a result, it was confirmed that satisfactory filling performance was obtained in all the specimens.
This work investigates the mechanical properties of conventional concrete (CC) and self compacting concrete (SCC) using fine rubber and silpozz were accompanied by a comparative study between conventional rubberized concrete (CRC) and self compacting rubberized concrete (SCRC). Fine rubber (FR) from scrap tires has replaced the fine aggregate (FA) and Silpozz has been used as a replacement of cement at the proportions of 5, 10 and 15%. Silpozz as a partial replacement of cement in addition of superplasticiser (SP) increases the strength of concrete. Fresh concrete properties such as slump test, compaction factor test for CRC, whereas for SCRC slump flow, $T_{500}$, V-funnel, L-box, U-box, J-ring tests were conducted along with the hardened properties tests like compressive, split tensile and flexural strength test at 7, 28 and 90 days of curing. The durability and microstructural behavior for both CRC and SCRC were investigated. FR used in the present study is 4.75 mm passing with fineness modulus 4.74.M30 grade concrete is used with a mix proportion of 1:1.44:2.91 and w/c ratio as 0.43. The results indicate that as FR quantity increases, workability of both CRC and SCRC decreases. The results also show that the replacement of natural fine aggregate (NFA) with FR particles decreases the compressive strength with the increase of flexural strength observed upto 5% replacement of FR. Also replacement of cement with silpozz resulted enhancement of strength in SCRC.
In this study, several rheological properties of binder pastes and concrete are investigated for the development of commercially available fly ash super-flowing concrete. Fly ash contents with 5 leves(0, 10, 20, 30, 40%), slag contents with 6 levels(0, 5, 15, 25, 35, 45%), and water-binder ratios with 4 levels(30, 33, 36, 39%) are selected for test variables to evaluate the super-flowing characteristics of binder pastes. For the estimation of the workability of super-flowing concrete, slump flow, funnel time, box height, and L-flow are measured and compared. As the results, the flow is decreased and the viscosity is increased with increasing fly ash content. Super-flowing concrete is succesfully produced with 30% fly ash replacement.

Self-compacting concretes (SCC) are highly fluid concrete which can flow without any vibration. Their composition requires a large quantity of fines to limit the risk of bleeding and segregation. The use of crushed sand rich in limestone fines could be an adequate solution for both economic and environmental reasons. This paper investigates the influence of quarry limestone fines from manufactured crushed sand on rheological, mechanical and durability properties of SCC. For this purpose, five mixtures of SCC with different limestone fines content as substitution of crushed sand (0, 5, 10, 15 and 20%) were prepared at constant water-to-cement ratio of 0.40 and $490kg/m^3$ of cement content. Fresh SCC mixtures were tested by slump flow test, V-funnel flow time test, L-box height ratio, segregation resistance and rheological test using a rheometer. Compressive and flexural strengths of SCC mixtures were evaluated at 28 days. Regarding durability properties, total porosity, capillary water absorption and chloride-ion migration were studied at 180 days. For the two test modes in fresh state, the results indicated compatibility between slump flow/yield stress (${\tau}_0$) and V-funnel flow time/plastic viscosity (${\mu}$). Increasing the substitution level of limestone fines in SCC mixtures, contributes to the decrease of the slump flow and the yield stress. All SCC mixtures investigated achieved adequate filling, adequate passing ability and exhibit no segregation. Moreover, the inclusion of limestone fines as crushed sand substitution reduces the capillary water absorption, chloride-ion migration and consequently enhances the durability performance.
Supplementary cementitious materials (SCM) have turned out to be a vital portion of extraordinary strength and performance concrete. Metakaolin (MK) is one of SCM material is acquired by calcinations of kaolinite. Universally utilised as pozzolanic material in concrete to enhance mechanical and durability properties. This study investigates the fresh and hardened properties of conventional concrete (CC) and self compacting concrete (SCC) by partially replacing cement with MK in diverse percentages. In CC and SCC, partial replacement of cement with MK varies from 5-20%. Fresh concrete properties of CC are conducted by slump test and compaction factor tests and for SCC, slump flow, T500, J-Ring, L-Box, V-Funnel and U-Box tests. Hardened concrete characteristics are investigated by compressive, split tensile and flexural strengths at age of 7, 28 and 90 days of curing under water. Carbonation depth, water absorption and density of MK based CC and SCC was also computed. Fresh concrete test results indicated that increase in MK replacement increases workability of concrete in a constant w/b ratio. Also, outcomes reveal that concrete integrating MK had greater compressive, flexural and split tensile strengths. Optimum replacement level of MK for cement was 10%, which increased mechanical properties and robustness properties of concrete.
Interest in indoor air quality is increasing day by day due to various reasons such as industrial development. Because redmud, an industrial subsidiary, contains titanium dioxide, this study evaluated self-consolidation performance with Slump Flow Test, J-Ring Test, and L-Box Test by mixing redmud in a mixture of ultra-high performance concrete, and sought the optimal combination with high flowability. In addition, the UHPC mixing experiment with photocatalyst was conducted, and the photocatalyst was replaced by the weight ratio of cement and the redmud by the weight ratio of fine aggregate and mixed with the concrete mixture.

This paper presents statistical models developed to study the influence of key mix design parameters on the properties of lightweight self-consolidating concrete (LWSCC) with expanded shale (ESH) aggregates. Twenty LWSCC mixtures are designed and tested, where responses (properties) are evaluated to analyze influence of mix design parameters and develop the models. Such responses included slump flow diameter, V-funnel flow time, J-ring flow diameter, J-ring height difference, L-box ratio, filling capacity, sieve segregation, unit weight and compressive strength. The developed models are valid for mixes with 0.30-0.40 water-to-binder ratio, high range water reducing admixture of 0.3-1.2 % (by total content of binder) and total binder content of $410-550kg/m^3$. The models are able to identify the influential mix design parameters and their interactions which can be useful to reduce the test protocol needed for proportioning of LWSCCs. Three industrial class ESH-LWSCC mixtures are developed using statistical models and their performance is validated through test results with good agreement. The developed ESH-LWSCC mixtures are able to satisfy the European EFNARC criteria for self-consolidating concrete.
Self-compacting concrete is widely used around the globe today due to its special and unique properties. This study examines the effect of natural and crushed gravel combinations in different percentages in short-and long-term properties of concrete. The best utilized sand had a fineness modulus of 2.7. In the mentioned mix designs, silica fume was used with 0 and 7% of the weight of the cement. In order to check the properties of fresh and hardened concrete, 9 and 5 test types were performed, respectively. The carried out tests were slump flow, V-funnel, J-ring, L-box, U-box and column segregation for fresh concrete, and compressive, tensile and flexural strengths for hardened concrete. A mix with only 100% natural gravel was considered as the control mix. According to the results, the control mix design and the one containing 100% crushed gravel with silica fume were the best in fresh and hardened concrete tests, respectively. Finally, using the optimization method, a mix design with 25% natural gravel, 75% crushed gravel and silica fume was introduced as the best mix in terms of the results of both fresh and hardened concrete tests.
