  • In this paper, we designed a four-band antenna that can be applied to WLAN and WiMAX systems by designing a microstrip feeding structure, four branch lines and a slit on the ground plane. The proposed antenna is designed with a size of 16.0 mm (W1) × 48.0 mm (L8) on a dielectric substrate of 18.0 mm (W) × 50.0 mm (L) × 1.0 mm(h). and a slit of 2.9 mm (W7) × 4.0 mm (L7) is inserted into the ground plane of 18.0 mm (W) × 18.7 mm (L6). Based on -10 dB production and measurement results, it obtained 60.8 MHz (8,730~9,338 MHz), 310 MHz (2.33~2.64 GHz) in the 2.4 GHz band, 420MHz (3.39~3.81 GHz) in the 3.4 GHz band, and 2,070 MHz (4.62~6.69 GHz) in the 5.0 GHz. In addition, the gain and radiation pattern characteristics of the quadrant band are measured from the measurement results anechoic chamber.

  • Silicene is a two-dimensional (2D) derivative of silicon (Si) arranged in honeycomb lattice. It is predicted to be compatible with the present fabrication technology. However, its gapless properties (neglecting the spin-orbiting effect) hinders its application as digital switching devices. Thus, a suitable band gap engineering technique is required. In the present work, the band structure and density of states of uniformly doped silicene are obtained using the nearest neighbour tight-binding (NNTB) model. The results show that uniform substitutional doping using aluminium (Al) has successfully induced band gap in silicene. The band structures of the presented model are in good agreement with published results in terms of the valence band and conduction band. The band gap values extracted from the presented models are 0.39 eV and 0.78 eV for uniformly doped silicene with Al at the doping concentration of 12.5% and 25% respectively. The results show that the engineered band gap values are within the range for electronic switching applications. The conclusions of this study envisage that the uniformly doped silicene with Al can be further explored and applied in the future nanoelectronic devices.

  • The first geostationary satellite made by Korea, COMS, has the three different payload ; Meteorological sensor, Oceanographic sensor and Ka-band communication payload. There are Meteorological & Ocean Data Communication Subsystem(MODCS) and Telemetry, Command and Ranging Subsystem(TC&R) as other RF radiation sources. MODCS transmits and receives Meteo and Ocean measurement data from/to earth using L-band and TC&R using S-band. The Ka-band communication payload will provide high-speed multimedia services and communication services for natural disaster such as prediction, prevention, and recovery services in the government communications network.Ka-band beacon is for the earth antenna pointing and the experiment of rain fading. This paper gives the analysis results about the mutual radiation effect on Ka-band communication payload, Ka-band beacon, MODCS and TC&R. Up/Down link power and coupling factor including the geometrical position and distance of antenna, filter rejection and degradation factor due to the different polarization are considered. The results show MODCS and TC&R are compatible for Ka-band communication payload and Ka-band beacon does not interfere with MODCS and TC&R normal operation.

  • In 1996, Thailand's participation in the Pacific Rim as a part of NASA's Mission to Planet Earth (MTPE) Program, was titled 'AIRSAR Thailand Project'. In this project the Department of Land Development utilized Topographic SAR (TOPSAR) which had multi-frequencies: C band, L band, and P band with multi-polarization: HH, VV, and HV as well as C band VV DEM. Satellite data such as LANDSAT TM was also utilized for optimal use. Results of AIRSAR image processing including data fusion among difference wavelength bands and polarization revealed the quality of AIRSAR that best suit for detection of agricultural land uses. The HH-L band AIRSAR was proven to be useful to distinguish among crop types when combined with appropriate data. The HH, VV, and HV-P band enhanced surface characteristics of swamp forest and wetland. In addition, TOPSAR has its great advantage for identification of salt farms and shrimp ponds.

  • In this paper, radio-wave propagation characteristics for L-band frequency are investigated using real data in case of base station in universal domestic environment. L-band frequency was recently emphasized the importance in PCS network. Measure+ments are carried out on vertical polarization characteristics in the 1.805 GHz frequency, three different estimated models, 3km 300m and 30m, are measured separately for 3 or 4 months at TX/RX fixed states. The experimental results of the estimated models are indicating the difference of 1~6dB compared to the theoretical value. The results present useful data in determining the base station sites.

  • An L-band single side band(SSB) mixer with CMOS switches and a C-band quadrature voltage-controlled oscillator(QVCO) have been developed using the TowerJazz 0.18-um RFCMOS process. The SSB mixer exhibits a conversion gain of 6.6 ~ 7.5 dB with a 70-dBc image rejection ratio and 65-dBc port isolation. The oscillation frequency range of the QVCO is 6.2 ~ 6.7 GHz with an output power of 4~6 dBm. For measurement, 1.8 V supply voltage is used while drawing 36 mA for the mixer and 23 mA for the QVCO.

  • The structure of a high-power gain-flattened long wavelength band (L-band) optical amplifier was optimized, which was implemented for 64-channel wavelength division multiplexed optical signals with a channel spacing of 50 GHz. The output characteristics of this L-band amplifier were measured and analyzed. The amplifier of the optimized two-stage amplification configuration had a flattened gain of 20 dB within 1 dB deviation between 1570 and 1600 nm for -2 dBm input power condition. The noise figure under this condition was minimized to within 6 dB in the amplification bandwidth. The gain flattening was realized by considering only the characteristics of gain medium in the amplifier without using additional optical or electrical devices. The proposed amplifier consisted of two stages of amplification stages, each of which was based on the erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) structure. The erbium-doped fiber length and pumping structures in each stage of the amplifier were optimized through experiments.

  • Erbium doped fiber (EDF) sources are useful devices for characterization of optical components for wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) fiber optic communication system. Therefore, there are many efforts to extend the bandwidth and to increase the power of the light source. Especially, L-band ASE source uses the low inversion state of EDF. It makes the power efficiency very low and needs a lot of fiber as several times as the fiber needed in C-band ASE generation. (omitted)

  • We propose a slot antenna consisting of a rectangular slot on the ground plane, fed by a microstrip line with a rectangular-ring-shaped tuning stub that can be deployed in ultra-wideband (UWB) communication systems to avoid interference with wireless local area network (WLAN) communication. Our antenna can achieve a single band-notched property from the 5 GHz frequency to the 6 GHz frequency owing to a controllable band notch that uses L- and J-shaped parasitic elements. The antenna characteristics can be modified to tune the band-notched property (4 GHz to 5 GHz or 6 GHz to 7 GHz) and the bandwidth of the band notch (1 GHz to 2 GHz). Furthermore, the shifted notch with enhanced width of the band notch from 1 GHz to 1.5 GHz is described in this paper. The UWB slot antenna and L- and J-shaped parasitic elements also provide the band-rejection function for reference in the WiMAX (3.5 GHz) and WLAN (5 GHz to 6 GHz) regions of the spectrum. Experiment results evidence the return loss performance, radiation patterns, and antenna gains at different operational frequencies.

  • In this paper, a microstrip-fed dual-band monopole antenna with two arc-shaped lines for WLAN(: Wireless Local Area Networks) applications was designed, fabricated and measured. The proposed antenna is based on a microstrip-fed structure, and composed of two arc-shaped lines and then designed in order to get dual band characteristics. We used the simulator, Ansoft's High Frequency Structure Simulator(: HFSS) and carried out simulation about parameters L2, L5, and with/without slit to get the optimized parameters. The proposed antenna is made of $13.0{\times}34.0{\times}1.0 mm^3$ and is fabricated on the permittivity 4.4 FR-4 substrate($12.0{\times}34.0{\times}1.0mm^3$). The experiment results are shown that the proposed antenna obtained the -10 dB impedance bandwidth 360 MHz (2.29~2.65 GHz) and 1,245 MHz (4.705~5.95 GHz) covering the WLAN bands. Also, the measured gain and radiation patterns characteristics of the proposed antenna are presented at required dual-band(2.4 GHz band/5.0 GHz band), respectively.
