The interrelation between retention factors of several L-amino acids and their physico-chemical and structural properties can be determined in chromatographic research. In this paper we describe a predictor for retention factors with various properties of the L-amino acids. Eighteen L-amino acids are included in this study, and retention factors are measured experimentally by RP-HPLC. Binding energy ($E_b$), hydrophobicity (log P), molecular refractivity (MR), polarizability (${\alpha}$), total energy ($E_t$), water solubility (log S), connectivity index (${\chi}$) of different orders and Wiener index (w) are theoretically calculated. Relationships between these properties and retention factors are established, and their predictive and interpretive ability are evaluated. The equation of the relationship between retention factors and various descriptors of L-amino acids is suggested as linear and multiple linear form, and the correlation coefficients estimated are relatively higher than 0.90.

In this paper, when a refractive index grating and a gain grating were simultaneously present in a DFB laser having a wavelength of 1.55 ㎛, a dielectric film coating was applied so that reflection did not occur on the right mirror surface, so that 𝜌_r=0. In case of δL > 0, the threshold gain and the beam distribution in the longitudinal direction and the radiated power ratio P_l/P_r of the oscillation mode were compared for the cases of the phase of 𝜌_l=π and π/2. If the phase of 𝜌_l=π, in order to obtain a low threshold current and high frequency stability, κL should be greater than 8. In the case of the phase of 𝜌_l= π/2, when κL is larger than 4.0, the oscillation gain starts to be lower than when the phase of 𝜌_l=π. In order to lower the threshold current of a oscillation mode and enhance the frequency stability, κL should be greater than 8.

The objective of this study was to determine the effect of die geometry on expansion index of extruded corn flour. Water solubility index, water absorption index and specific mechanical energy (SME) input were analyzed to observe the relationship with die geometry. The feed moisture content was 20 and 25%. Die dimensions were tapered angle (57, 95o) and length/diameter (L/D) ratio of die land (0.67, 1.67 and 2.67). The SME input was the highest at 20% moisture content and 2.23E-10 m3 die constant. The sectional and volumetric expansion indices at 20% moisture were increased with increase in die constant. However, die constant did not influence sectional expansion index of corn flour extrudate at 25% moisture content. The extruded corn flour at 25% moisture content had higher longitudinal expansion index than those of extruded corn flour at 20% moisture content. Sectional expansion and longitudinal expansion index were negatively correlated. The water absorption index and water solubility index were not affected with the die constant.

It has been reported that Magnoliae cortex extract has antibacterial and antimicrobial activity against pathogenic microbes and Zea Mays L. extract is effective for improving gingival tissue health. The purpose of this study was to examine the anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial effects of Zea Mays L. and Magnoliac cortex extract mixtures through experimental peridontitis induced beagle dog model. Nine beagle dogs with experimentally induced periodontitis were selected. Baseline clinical indices which includes plaque index, gingival index, probing pocket depth, clinical attachment level, gingival fluid flow rate were recorded and microbial assays were done. Magnoliac cortex and Zea Mays L., mixed at 2:l ratio in 105mg capsular dosage, were taken by 3 capsule (Group I) or 6 capsule dosages (Group II) three times a day. After 4,8,12 weeks, clinical indices were recorded. All data of clinical indices were compared through one-way ANOVA with 95% confidence level. Clinical indices of group I and II showed significantly better results than those of control group. There were no significant differences between group I and II. In conclusion, it was confirmed that mixture of Magnoliae cortex and Zea May L. (mix ratio 2:1) possessed clinical improving effects to periodontitis.

Cultural conditions for the polysaccharide production by Pseudomonas elodea ATCC 31461, a thermogellable polysaccharide producer, were investigated. Optimum condition for polysaccharide production were: temperature; $30^{\circ}C$, pH; 6.5, glucose; 25 g/L. nitrogen source; peptone, C/N ratio; 5.0. Maximum production and yield at this condition were ca. 32 g/L and 128%, viscosity of 1% polysaccharide solution was 837 mPas at 35/sec.. Consistency index and flow behaviour index were 2570 mPas and 0.66

Age and growth of red tongue sole (Cynoglossus joyneri), were studied using samples from the coastal waters off Yeosu, Korea, from January to December, 2001. Sagittal otoliths had relatively clear annuli. Marginal index of otolith dropped sharhly in August suggesting that each annulus was formed once a year In August. Monthly changes in the gonadosomatic index indicated that spawning peaked between July and September. The oldest fish observed in this study was 4 years old for both of females and males. Relationships between the otolith radius (R) and total length (L) were: L=14.1R-0.098 for females, and L=11.9R+1.83 for males. Relationships between total length and body weight $(W)\;were:\;W=0.0021L^{3.24}\;for\;females,\;and\;W=0.0014L^{3.39}$ for males. Growth in length of the fish was expressed by the von Bertalanffy's growth equation as:$L_{t}=29.06\;(1-e^{-0.19(t+2.40)})\;for\;females\;and\;L_{t}=27.44 (1-e^{-0.17(t+2.84)})$ for males.

Chemical water quality suitability for species (Ephemera strigata, Ephemera separigata, and Ephemera orientalis-sachalinensis group) of the mayfly genus Ephemera (Order Ephemeroptera) was analyzed with probability distribution models (Exponential, Normal, Lognormal, Logistic, Weibull, Gamma, Beta, Gumbel). Data was collected from 23,957 sampling units of 6,664 sites in Korea from 2010 to 2021. E. orientalis-sachalinensis occurred at the range of BOD₅ 0.3~11.1 mg/L (the best-fit Lognormal model); T-P 0.007~0.769 mg/L (the Gumbel model); TSS 0.4~142.2 mg/L (the Lognormal model). E. strigata occurred at the range of BOD₅ 0.4~7.4 mg/L (the Gumbel model); T-P 0.007~0.254 mg/L (the Lognormal model); TSS 0.4~17.1 mg/L (the Lognormal model). E. separigata occurred at the range of BOD₅ 0.4~2.6 mg/L (the R-Weibull model); T-P 0.007~0.134 mg/L (the Lognormal model); TSS 0.7~10.0 mg/L (the Lognormal model). Habitat suitability range of E. orientalis-sachalinensis was estimated to be 0.4~1.9 mg/L (BOD₅), 0.024~0.086 mg/L (T-P), 2.5~22.4 mg/L (TSS); that of E. strigata was 0.4~0.7 mg/L (BOD₅), 0.007~0.018 mg/L (T-P), 0.0~1.7 mg/L (TSS); that of E. separigata was 0.0~0.4 mg/L (BOD₅), 0.000~0.015 mg/L (T-P), 0.5~3.1 mg/L (TSS). In a relative comparision, E. orientalis-sachalinensis was estimated to be eurysaprobic, and narrowly adapted in high levels of T-P and TSS, E. strigata was estimated to be oligosaprobic and adapted in low levels of T-P and TSS, and E. separigata was estimated to be stenooligosaprobic and widely adapted in low level of T-P and TSS.

Refractive index and speeds of sound for the binary mixture of isomer of butanol (1) + cyclohexane, benzene and toluene (2) were measured at 308.15 K. The measured data were used to calculate deviation in refractive index ${\Delta}n$, ultrasonic speed ${\Delta}u$, isentropic compressibility $K_s^E$, available volume $V_a$, excess intermolecular free length $L_f$ and molecular association $M_A$. All the derived properties were correlated with polynomial equation. Ultrasonic speed data were predicted using various empirical correlations like Nomoto, van Dael, impedance dependence and theoretically with Schaaff's collision factor theory (CFT). Jacobson free length theory (FLT) was used to calculate $L_f$. The measured refractive index was also correlated with various mixing rules. The deviation in refractive index Δn and ultrasonic speed ${\Delta}u$ was used to determine the intermolecular interactions.

Objectives The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of MSAT (Mostion style acuputure treatment) on piriformis muscle regarding leg radiating pain with HIVD of L-SPINE. Methods Forty patients who received inpatient treatment from Febuarary 1 to March 31, 2014 in the Daejon-Jaseng oriental medicine hospital were divided into 2 groups by blocked randomization : Group A (n=20)=routine treatment on HIVD of L-SPINE with MSAT on piriformis muscle and Group B (n=20)=routine treatment on HIVD of L-SPINE (acupuncture, Shinbaro pharmacopuncture, herb medication, chuna treatment and physiotherapy). The MSAT (Mostion style acuputure treatment) on piriformis muscle was administered each day and both groups were received routine treatment each day. Evaluations were made before treatment, after 3 days and 7 days, and before discharge using the NRS (numeric rating scale) and ODI (oswestry disability index). The statistically significance was evaluated by SPSS 18.0 for windows. Results Compared to before treatment, the NRS (numeric rating scale) and ODI (oswestry disability index) of both A and B groups after 3, 7 days and before discharge of treatment significantly decreased (p<0.05). Regarding group comparison, the NRS (numeric rating scale) and ODI (oswestry disability index) of A group was significantly lower than the B group at 3, 7 days, before dischanre (p<0.05). Regarding improvement of the NRS (numeric rating scale) and ODI (oswestry disability index), A group was significantly lower than the B group at 3 day (NRS), 7day (ODI) (p=0.000) but there was no significant difference between the two groups at 7 days (NRS) and before discharge (p>0.05). Conclusions Compared to just routine treatment, the MSAT (Mostion style acuputure treatment) on piriformis muscle significantly improved the NRS (numeric rating scale) and ODI (oswestry disability index) after 3, 7 days, and before discharge. Because early intervention determines the grade of Leg radiating pain with HIVD of L-SPINE, the MSAT (Mostion style acuputure treatment) on piriformisat the early stage will be clinically helpful to patients.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between prosthetic status and health related quality of elderly by using EuroQol-5 dimension (EQ-5D) which is a standardized instrument used as a measure of health outcome. Data from 1,179 elderly subjects (over 65 years old) from the fifth Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey were used in our analysis. Oral examination were conducted to obtain wearing prosthetic and needed prosthetic. EQ-5D is a widely used health condition measuring instrument. It consists of the five dimensions: Mobility, Self-care, Usual activities, Pain/discomfort and Anxiety/depression. EQ-5D index is a score calculated out of a weighting system. In this study, the mean score of the EQ-5D index among the elderly was 0.86. For EQ-5D index gender, female showed statistically significantly lower quality of life than male. The related factors EQ-5D index, when the lower demand for fixed prosthodontics and full denture. Wearers in partial and complete denture than non-wearers showed higher EQ-5D index. In order to improve EQ-5D index among the elderly who demand prosthetic status, which has lost its function through providing proper dental prostheses.
