  • Calcinosis circumscripta and nutritional myopathy are rare diseases, but have been reported naturally and experimentally in dogs and cats respectively [1-3]. On rare occasions, each of them also occurs in the tongue [1, 4]. Present report describes the gross, serological and histopathological findings of calcinosis circumscripta on lingual muscle and dermis in a dog. (omitted)

Analysis of specific character of environment-friendly material-produced rice

  • The effects of mixtures of each of rice hull charcoal and wood charcoal with pyroligneous acid on the cultivation and antioxidant activities of rice were investigated. Results of the total phenolic compounds, DPPH radical electron-donating ability and xanthine oxidase stress activity analyses revealed that the environment-friendly materials increased the total antioxidant capacity in rice. In the case of palatability of rice, total amylose blue value and starch-I2color reaction analyses, data showed that environment-friendly materials generally decreased the amylose content of rice. Also, the environment-friendly materials improved the rice endosperm quality.

Steatosis in a Slaughtered Korean Native Cattle

  • Muscular lesion was detected in a 23-month-old castrated bull encountered at Kyungsan slaughter house. The lesion appeared as fat intervening muscle fibers. The affected animal had no clinical signs. On microscopic examination, there was replacement of many muscle fibers by normal fat cells. Numerous fat cells were located between muscle fibers. Remaining skeletal muscle cells were in degenerative process, and thus abnormal skeletal muscle cells had loose fibers while normal had intact ones. The advent of inflammatory cells is not at the lesion, which is unique view in steatosis.
