  • Twenty-six species of the higher fungi were collected and identified from Mt. Sori in Kwangneung, Kyeongki-do, Korea, during the period of three months, beginning July 1, 1972. Among them the following were recognized newly to occur in Korea: camarophyllus virgineus (Fr.) Karst., Rhodophyllus crassipes (Imaz. et Toki) Imaz. et Hongo and Agrocybge pediades (Fr.) Fayod.

  • The herb, shrub, understory and canopy strata, which arbitrarily delineated by size classes, were sampled separately. The former one were sampled by the pin-point quadrat method. And remaining three by size quadrats, diversity (H= =$\Sigma$ Pi log Pi) of of each stratum was estimated for each set of census data. Species diversity within a stratum was independent of sample plot size above a minimum cumulative area. Diversity based on plotless and plot samples could he determined by the same equation, and by pooling the data needed to estimate diversity of each stratum.

The Comparative Evaluation of Plant Species Diversity in Forest Ecosystems of Namsan and Kwangneung (남산(南山) 및 광릉(光陵) 산림생태계(山林生態系)의 식물(植物) 종다양성(種多樣性)의 비교 (比較) 평가(評價))

  • Namsan area supposed to be a disturbed ecosystem and Kwangneung area considered to be a natural ecosystem were selected for the study. On the basis of the plant species composition, the study was planned to examine structural plant species diversity so as to provide basic ecological information to restore more stable and healthy ecosystem for Namsan. The stratified sample plot method was employed for collecting vegetation data, establishing $20m{\times}20m$ square plots for overstory trees, $4m{\times}4m$ plots for mid-story woody plants, and $1m{\times}1m$ plots for ground vegetation. The herbaceous plants were periodically investigated by taking into account for seasonal(spring, summer, and autumn) variation in presence. Ecological attributes were evaluated through analyzing species composition, species diversity, life forms, interspecies association, and growing habitat for various forest types, vertical layers, life forms, and seasonal variation. Even though the species diversity index of canopy trees in the deciduous forest of Namsan was estimated higher than that of the natural forest of Kwangneung, overall species diversity of plants in Kwangneung area was greater than that in Namsan area. Herbaceous plants presented in Kwangneung but not in Namsan were Aconitum pseudo-proliferum, Botrychium virginianum, Dryopteris tokyoensis, Scutellaria insignis, Tricyrtis dilatata, and Viola kamibayashii, most of them were endemic species of Kwangneung. Elaeagnus umbellata, and Prunes padus var. seoulensis were found only in Namsan. Such species typically composed of the natural deciduous forest as Acer mono, Acer triflorum, Carpinus laxiflora, Cornus controversa, Fraxinus mandshurica, and Phellodendron amurertse were limited growing in a small size of area in Namsan. The future project should be made for encouraging the growth and expansion of the distribution of such species to restore biodiversity in Namsan area.

  • Seven species of higher fungi which were collected at Kwangneung, Mt. Hanla, Mt. Chiri, Taeqwanryung, and Yeongdong district, and preserved in the institute from 1975 to 1977, were classified into new korean species. Also, two species of fungi were collected from April to October 1978 and identified at Suweon, Kwangneung, and Mt. Chiri. They were as follows: Hygrophorus pratensis, H. flavescens, H. puniceus, Rhodophyllus rhodopolious Lepiota atrosquamulosa, Leucocoprinus fragilissima Lyophyllum semitale, Russula delica and Xerocomus badius.

  • The soil of Kwangneung area(Kyeunggi-Do) was inoculated directly into wheat-bran-media and after $3{\sim}4$ days of incubation, a Penicillium species whose cellulase activity was 1011u/g was isolated. With the treatment of mutagenic agents an improved strain(cellulase activity: 1303u/g) was obtained. This strain was screened again by mono-spore isolation method. Finally a strain C8-14 (cellulase activity: 2351u/g) which had lesser spores than the wild strain was obtained.

  • Five species belong to three genera of the Laboulbeniales were collected on Blattidae (Blattodea), Nitidulidae and Carabidae (Coleoptera) from Kwangneung Kyeonggido and some the others. They are Herpomyces periplametae Thaxter on Periplaneta japonica Karny, Herpomyces stylopygae Spegazzini on Blatta orientalis (L)., Laboulbenia yamadae Ishikawa ex Terada on Chlaenius variicornis Morawitz, Rickia pallodina Thaxter on Pallodes umbratilis Reitter and Rickia papuana Thaxter on Pallodes umbaratilis Reitter. Among these species, Herpomyces periplametae Thaxter and Rickia pallodina Thaxter are new to Korea.

  • An investigation has been performed on the flora and life form of the vascular plants at Mt. Sori in Kwangneung from March to November in 1982. In a survey field trip, 539 species, 344 genera, 102 families of plants. are collected. Among them Hylomecon vernale, Aconitum coreanum, A. pseudoproliferum, Adonis amurensis, Anemone raddeana is important plant in this area and they are becoming sparse than past. In the life form spectrum hemiryptophytes is 40.6%.
