Bremia itoana (Oomycota, Peronosporales), a Specialized Downy Mildew Pathogen on an East Asian Plant, Crepidiastrum sonchifolium (Asteraceae)

  • Crepidiastrum sonchifolium, a flowering plant in the daisy family (Asteraceae), is native to East Asia. In Korea, this plant is a locally cultivated vegetable, and its market size is gradually growing. Since the plants with downy mildew infection were initially found at a private farm of Chuncheon city, the occurrences have continued in commercial farms of other regions, highlighting that this disease is spreading throughout Korea. The pathogen was attributed to a member of the genus Bremia that contains many specialized species, each of which displays a narrow host spectrum on Asteraceae. Based on morphological and molecular phylogenetic analyses, along with the high host specificity recently proven for Bremia species, the identity of the causal agent was confirmed as a so far undescribed species of Bremia. Here, we introduce Bremia itoana sp. nov., specific to C. sonchifolium.

군산지역 저수지의 수질특성 및 부영양화 평가 (Characteristics of Water Quality and Evaluation of Eutrophication for Reservoirs in Kunsan)

  • Recently, eutrophication or lake and reservoir has become serious problem to man who want use that water for several purpose. In order to solve the eutrophication problem, the trophic state of that eutrophic lake and reservoir should be measured properly. For the purpose of this, various method to indicate the trophic state of lake and reservoir was developed by many researchers. This research was conducted to evaluate characteristics and eutrophication of water qualitymfor small scale reservoir in Kunsan. On-site investigation to 5 reservoirs and laboratory experiment were carried out during four seasons from November, 2003 to July, 2004. Twelve items measured field ana a laboratory. Measured data was analyzed to quantitative method by multivariate approach and eutrophication index. The result is summarized as following. 1) Showing the characteristics of water quality for reservoir in Kunsan, Okgu reservoir and Oknua reservoir was exceeded 4 grades of agricultural water standard in TP, TN and COD. This means that eutrophication was gone much, therefore, water-purity control of reservoir need. While, Mije reservoir that is used to Kunsan citizens' recreation was good in water quality. But, water quality exceeded 4 grades of agricultural Dater standard sometimes. 2) As a results of correlation analysis between variables of water qualify, Interrelation between variables which is connected with eutrophication was expressed good relationship as above 6.000 in correlation coefficients. The correlation coefficient(r) between COD and chlorophyll-a, total phosphorus and chlorophyll-a, total nitrogen and chlorophyll-a were 0.750, 0.720 and 0.600 respectively. Therefore, Change of water quality can grasp according to eutrophication progress degree. 3) If do evaluate to eutrophication by quantitative method which is proposed by OECD, US-EPA and Forsberg & Ryding, in the case of chlorophyll a, Okgu, Oknua and Daewi reservoir was eutrophic state and Mije and Geumgul reservoir was mesotrophic state. But, estimation by TN and TP showed highly eutrophic state (hypereutrophic) in all reservoirs. 4) If do evaluate by eutrophication index which is Carlson's TSI, revised carlson TSI and Walker's index, in the case of chlorophyll a, TSI values of Okgu, Oknua and Daewi reservoir is eutrophic state more than 50 and Mije and Geumgul reservoir was mesotrophic state as range of $40{\sim}50$ in TSI value. But, in the case of TP as nutrients, all reservoirs showed highly eutrophic state which was exceed to 70 in TSI value. According to above results, the water quality for small scale reservoirs in Kunsan is progressing by trophic state. therefore, for continuous use as agriculture water, we had better do establishment of management plan about water quality.

지자체별 도시공원 규모분석 (The Comparative Analysis of City Park Facility for the Korean Local Government)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 우리나라 16개 광역자치단체(시 도)별 문화시설중 도시공원에 대한 규모를 근린공원, 어린이 공원, 소공원, 묘지공원, 체육공원, 역사공원, 문화공원, 수변공원, 도시자연공원 등으로 구분하여 인구 및 기초지방자치단체 등의 규모와의 비교분석을 통해 지역의 문화시설지수를 도출하였다. 이를 통해 광역지방자치단체별로 도시공원의 유형과 면적이 인구증가율과는 다르게 나타난다는 점을 확인하였다. 인구증가에 비례하여 도시공원 면적 확보율이 비례하지 않는다는 점을 확인하였으며, 이는 향후 도시공원 정책 수립에 있어 인구증가율을 고려하여야 한다는 시사점을 도출하였다.

원유의 노출이 담치와 조피볼락의 phase II 약물대사효소 UDP-glucoronosyl transferase 및 glutathione S-transferase의 활성에 미치는 영향 (Activity Changes in Phase II Drug-metabolizing Enzymes UDP-Glucoronosyl Transferase and Glutathione S-Ttansferase to Crude Oil Exposure in Mussel and Rockfish)

  • This study examined effects of crude oil on the phase II drug-metabolizing enzymes UDP-glucuronosyl transferase (UDPGT) and glutathione S-transferase (GST) in mussel Mytilus edulis and rockfish Sebastes schlegeli, a representative bivalve and a culture fish, respectively. This work also intended indirectly to evaluate the post impact recovery from the massive oil tanker spillage accidents occurred during the summer of 1995 in the sea area off Yosu City, Chonnam. For these, enzyme activities of UDPGT and GST were examined in the fish and mussel following laboratory exposure to fresh crude oil, weathered oil, field-obtained oil residues, or in the field biota samples. Decreased GST activity was observed in rock fish following exposure to oil-soluble fraction (OSF) of fresh oil. A similar diminished GST activity was also observed after OSF of artificially weathered oil. OSF of field oil residues retrieved from the spillage area approximately 1 year later also exerted a slight inhibition of GST to rockfish. There was neither a change in UDPGT in rockfish, nor were there changes in mussel in both enzymes to any oil fractions. We could not observe any difference in the two enzymes either in rockfish or mussel sampled from the field during $1.5{\sim}2.0$ years post spillage, indicating that their enzyme systems might had been recovered by the sampling time. In conclusion, it seems that the inhibition of GST activity in rockfish is a biomarker response to crude oil exposure. The results, however, must be interpreted with care, as the inhibition nay reflect various factors such as oil concentration, duration and water temperature.

전북 군산지역 중학생의 식생활 태도에 관한 연구 (A Study on Dietary Attitude of Middle School Students in Kunsan City, Jeonbuk Province)

  • The purpose of this study was to explore dietary attitude among middle school students by sex. The subjects were collected from 211 boy students and 198 girl students in the city of Kunsan, Jeonbuk province. The mean age of the subjects was 13.7 years old. The average score of food habit was 4.61 $\pm$ 1.92. The average score of food habit of boy students was higher than the score of girl students. The correlations between the score of food habit and father's education level. family income, and nutritional supplements were positive. The correlation between the scores of the nutrition knowledge and father's education level was also positive. On the other hand the mother's occupation did not have any influence on the scores of food habits and the scores of the nutrition knowledge. As a staple food, cooked rice was preferred on boy and girl students at breakfast(82.7%) and supper(94.3%). The preference of snacks was fruit and fruit juice. The reason of skipping breakfast was the lack of time and no appetite, and skipping lunch was due to no appetite. Lastly the main reason of skipping supper was playing computer on boys. on the other hand no appetite and weight control on girls. In order to improve the nutritional status of the middle school students, they must establish good food habits by eating three regular meals per day and balancing their diet. Also they should be notified that severe weight control is very harmful for health. This study indicate that nutrition education and correct information for body image. balanced diet. regularity of meals and food selection are required for middle school students at both school and home.

Distributed plasticity approach for the nonlinear structural assessment of offshore wind turbine

  • This study provides an insight of the nonlinear behavior of the Offshore Wind Turbine (OWT) structure using the distributed plasticity approach. The fiber section beam-column element is applied to construct the finite element model. The accuracy of the proposed model is verified using linear analysis via the comparison of the dynamic characteristics. For collapse risk assessment of OWT, the nonlinear effects considering the earthquake Incident Angle (IA) have been evaluated first. Then, the Incremental Dynamic Analysis (IDA) has been executed using a set of 20 near-fault records. Lastly, fragility curves are developed to evaluate the vulnerability of structures for different limit states. Attained results justify the accuracy of the proposed approach for the structural response against the ground motions and other environmental loads. It indicates that effects of static wind and wave loads along with the earthquake loads should be considered during the risk assessment of the OWT structure.

전주 도심구간 삼천과 전주천의 어류상 (A Study on the Fish Fauna of the Samcheon and Jeonjucheon Stream in Urban Area at Jeonju, Korea)

  • 전주 시내를 관통하여 흐르는 전주천과 삼천의 어류상을 연구하기 위해 총 10개 정점을 선정한 뒤 족대와 투망을 이용하여 조사하였다. 출현한 어류는 4목 10과 36종 2,064개체이다. 삼천에서 4목 8과 30종 1,074개체, 전주천에서 3목 8과 26종 986개체가 채집되었다. 전체 우점종은 피라미로 총 1,202개체(58.35%)가 채집되었고, 아우점종은 모래무지로 총 153개체(7.43%)가 채집되었다. 삼천의 우점종은 피라미로 총 635개체(59.12%) 채집되었고, 아우점종은 모래무지로 140개체(13.04%) 채집되었다. 전주천의 우점종은 피라미로 총 567개체(57.51%) 채집되었고 아우점종은 돌고기로 총 99개체(10.00%) 채집되었으며, 합수부를 제외하면 하천의 환경에 큰 변화가 없었다. 복원사업 전 삼천의 전주 시내 구간 어류상은 느린 유속과 모래가 깔린 하상으로 이를 선호하는 어류가 채집되었으나, 복원사업 후 여울이 발달하는 등 환경변화로 인해 어류상의 차이가 있는 것으로 생각되며, 전주천은 복원사업 이전과 비교했을 때 종 수가 크게 증가한 것으로 파악된다. 따라서 도심하천인 전주천과 삼천의 어류군집에 대해서는 좀 더 장기적인 모니터링이 필수적인 것으로 판단된다.

다양한 이론적 도시규모에서의 습지 보전을 위한 게임 이론 적용 (Game Theory Application in Wetland Conservation Across Various Hypothetical City Sizes)

  • 습지의 보전 및 복원은 지속 가능한 인간 사회와 환경을 위한 필수적 과제로, 생물다양성 유지, 자연재해 저감, 기후 변화 완화 등 중요한 혜택을 제공한다. 본 연구는 습지 복원 및 조성을 위한 다양한 이해관계자들 간의 전략적 상호작용과 이익을 게임 이론을 통해 분석하고, 정책 결정에 중요한 근거를 제공하고자 한다. 이 연구에서는 대도시, 중소도시, 소도시의 세 가지 도시 유형에 대해 가상의 상황을 설정하고, 정부, 개발회사, 환경단체, 지역 주민 등의 이해관계자를 정의하였다. 각 이해관계자별 전략적 선택 사항을 도출하고, 습지생태 전문가들의 논의를 통해 보수행렬을 설정하였다. 이후 비협력적 게임 이론을 적용하여 내쉬 균형과 파레토 효율성을 분석하였다. 대도시에서는 '습지 보존'과 '친환경 개발', 중소도시에서는 다양한 전략들, 그리고 소도시에서는 '친환경 개발'이 이해당사자 모두에게 이득이 되는 해결책으로 나타났다. 파레토 효율성 분석 결과, 각 도시 유형별로 습지 관리와 관련하여 이해당사자들 간의 최적의 해결책이 어떻게 달라질 수 있는지를 보여주었다. 도시 유형별로 습지 보존, 친환경 개발, 습지 복원 사업이 각각 중요하게 부각되었다. 이에 따라 정책 입안자들은 환경 보호와 도시 개발의 조화를 이루는 규제와 인센티브를 마련하고, 지역 사회의 참여를 촉진하는 프로그램을 고려해야 한다. 이해당사자별 역할과 전략을 통해 습지 보존과 지역 경제 발전을 동시에 촉진하는 방안을 모색해야 한다. 전략별 장단점을 이해하고, 이를 바탕으로 보다 효과적인 정책 결정을 내리는 것이 중요하다.

군산의 근대 창고건물 현황 및 산업유산으로서의 가치에 관한 연구 (A Study on Characteristics of the Modern Warehouse in Gunsan and Its Value as Industrial Heritage)

  • This research is to analyze the modern warehouses in Gunsan during the Japanese Colonial Period. They were the spatial and urban symbol of City of Rice, Gunsan. The main purpose of this study is to survey the modern warehouses in the original center of city, to find their architectural characteristics and to set up a possibility of reuse. 7 existing warehouse buildings are located at Jangmi-Dong and Jooksung-Dong, and they have been built between 1935 and 1940. The warehouse buildings have a module of 6m and they are generally 12m wide, 24~48m long and 8m high. Their structure is composed of reinforced concrete and wooden truss. All warehouse buildings have a rectangular form. Now the diverse commercial programs occupy the original space. Modern warehouse in Gunsan has the spatial and symbolic value as industrial heritage. Therefore, it is necessary to respect the original value of modern warehouse and to create a reusing space for the current generation. It is also essential to verify restoring possibility of three symbolic warehouse buildings in the harbour that were demolished.
