  • Three species of Acrolepiopsis: A. issikiella (Moriuti, 1961), A. japonica Gaedike, 1982, and A. postomacula (Matsumura, 1931), are recorded from Korea for the first time. Acrolepiopsis issikiella is characterized by having the white costal strigulae and a large dorsal patch on the forewing. Acrolepidopsis japonica is the smallest congener in Korea. Acrolepiopsis postomacula is the only Korean species of Acrolepiinae associated with Hosta. Distributions and larval biology of the three species are summarized. Two species, A. issikiella and A. japonica, are potential pest species of yam-cultivating farms in Korea. Superficial and genital features of the species, if available, are illustrated.

  • In this paper, we propose a Bayesian approach to determine the adaptive preventive maintenance(PM) policy for a general sequential imperfect PM model proposed by Lin, Zuo and Yam(2000) that PM not only reduces the effective age of the system but also changes the hazard rate function. Assuming that the failure times follow Weibull distribution, we adopt a Bayesian approach to update unknown parameters and determine the Bayesian optimal sequential PM policies. Finally, numerical examples of the optimal adaptive PM policy are presented for illustrative purposes.

  • Recently, for places with poor vegetating environment, such as slopes made of weathered soil or rocks, erosion tranquilizers, coverings and composite fertilizers have been mixed with seeds and sprinkled onto soil. Also, these plant revegetations have been mixed with nets and used to strengthen cohesion. However, this technique often obstructed plant growth and caused pollution because of not decomposing nets. This study has tested influence on plant revegetation B for slope of weathered soil and rocks and decomposition of naturally decomposing polyester filament yarn. In result, it was showed that plant revegetation B does not harm environment in case of applying it to soil slope and enhance protection capacity of slopes as time goes by. Also, naturally decomposing polyester filament yam was analyzed its physical properties with the passage of time and was known that naturally decomposing polyester filament yarn transformed into a structure easy to decompose by hardening. Thus it is considered that the revegetation method used this study was very effective method for plant establishment and stability of slope.

  • The present paper is concerned with the influence of opening roller speed, drum speed difference and suction air pressure on properties of polyester and acrylic open-end friction spun yams. The results shows that the opening roller speed and the suction air pressure have considerable influence on the characteristics of polyester and acrylic open-end friction spun yams. In case of polyester yams the unevenness, imperfection and hairiness decreases and the yam tenacity increases with the increase in opening roller speed and suction air pressure. However for acrylic yams the unevenness and imperfections decreases and tenacity increases with the increase in opening roller speed and suction air pressure.

  • This study surveys the effects of POY physical properties and processing conditions of belt texturing machine to the textured yarns. The various textured yarns are made with the variations of 1st heater temperature, draw ratio, velocity ratio, and the physical properties of these specimens such as yam linear density, tenacity, breaking strain, and wet and dry thermal shrinkages are measured and analysed with the various processing conditions of texturing machine. Especially, the thermal characteristics of the textured yarns, which are affected at the fabric hands and the determination of the processing conditions in the dyeing and finishing processes, are investigated through the thermal stress analyser and DSC experiments.

  • Action learning motivates students to solve open-ended problems by 'developing skills through doing'. This paper reviews the concept of action learning and discusses the adoption of action learning approach to teach operations management at universities. It presents the design and delivery of an action-learning course at City University of Hong Kong. The course incorporates classroom lectures, tutorials and an action-learning workshop. The experience gained proves that action learning facilitates student participation and teamwork and provides a venue of accelerating learning where enables students to handle dynamic problem situations more effectively. The paper concludes that adopting action-learning approach can help lecturers to enhance quality teaching in operations management courses, and provide an alternate means of effective paradigm other than traditional classroom teaching and/or computer-based training at universities.

  • Orchid seeds are nearly microscopic in size. Because of that, many fanciful theories were proposed for the origin of orchids. Almost 400 years separate the time when orchid seeds were seen for the first time and the development of a practical asymbiotic method for their germination. The seeds were first observed and drawn during the sixteenth century. Seedlings were first described and illustrated in 1804. The association between orchid and fungi was observed as early as 1824, while the requirement for mycorrhiza for seed germination was established in 1899. An asymbiotic method for orchid seed germination was developed in 1921. After Knudson's media B and C were formulated, orchids growing and hybridization became widespread. Hybrids which early growers may not have even imagined became possible.

  • This study surveys the fiber behavior in yam formation and the Physical properties of Solo-spun yarn. The specimens were made by six types of Solo-spun rollers with fixed twist multiplier In the previous part, the physical properties such as yarn count, evenness, strength, and breaking elongation of these yams were compared with the properties of ring shun yarns and analysed with the mechanism of Solo-spun yarn formation. In the second part of this report, the abrasion resistance and hairiness were discussed wish respect to the micro yarn structures. The narrower the groove width of Solo-spun roller is, the more active the bulk fibers migration is. The Solo-spun film structure has two groups. One is shorter than the others one in longitudinal direction of yarn and has the same structure as ring-spun yarn, which is derided from the smooth zone on the surface of Solo-spun roller. The other one is longer than the former and there are the wrapping fibers. This part is derived from the conflicted grooves on the surface of Solo-spun troller.
