  • Direct writing(DW) is a method of patterning materials to a substrate directly, without a mask. It can use a variety of materials and be applied to various fields. Among DW systems, the flow-based type, using a syringe pump and nozzle, is simpler than other types. Furthermore, the range of materials is exceptionally wide. In additive processes, a three dimensional structure is made of stacking layer. Each layer is made of several lines. In this regard, good surface roughness of fabricated layers is essential to three dimensional fabrication. The surface roughness of any fabricated layer tends to change with the dispensing pattern. When multiple layers fabricated by a nozzle dispensing system are stacked, control of the nozzle position from the substrate is important in order to avoid interference between the nozzle and the fabricated layer. In this study, a fluid direct writing system for three dimensional structure fabrication was developed. Experimentsto control the position of the nozzle from substrate were conducted in order to examine the characteristics of the material used in this system.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of science writing heuristic(SWH) instruction based on Tolumin's structure of argument, on students' science process skills and scientific attitude. In the instruction, unstructured problems were selected with issues to be argued, in which interactions among students are stressed. This research involved 58 students of 5th grade at an elementary school, and divided them into an experimental group with 29 and a control group with 29. The former was treated with instruction using argumentation as SWH, while the latter with conventional ways of instruction. Science process skills and scientific attitude were compared between the two groups and within each of the groups. The results implied that science instruction using science writing heuristic is effective in improving learning science process skills and scientific attitude.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of science journal writing on science-related affects of scientifically gifted students at middle school level. Twenty one gifted students attending a university science gifted program wrote science journals for two months in a web-supported environment. The data sources include student journals, questionnaire and exit interviews. The results indicate that science journal writing has influenced the students positively in the affective domain, and in particular, cognitions of science, interests in science and scientific attitudes.

  • Aqueous gold nanoparticle dispersion was synthesized by chemical reduction method using diethanolamine as reducing agent and polyethyleneimine as dispersion stabilizer. The synthesis conditions for the stable dispersion of the gold nanoparticle suspension were determined by changing the amount of the reducing agent and dispersant during the wet chemical synthesis procedures. The face centered cubic lattice structure of the gold nanoparticles was confirmed by using X-ray diffraction and the morphologies of the nanoparticles were observed by transmission electron microscope. The synthesized gold nanoparticle dispersion was concentrated by evaporating the dispersion medium at room temperature followed by the addition of ethyleneglycol as humectant for the increase of the elastic properties to obtain gold nanoparticle inks for direct ink writing process. The line patterns were obtained with the gold nanoparticle inks during the writing procedures and the morphologies of the fine patterns were observed by scanning electron microscope.

  • The purpose of this study is to find out the effect on academic achievement and science-related affective domain of elementary students though science journal writing about the units of Science textbook of the first semester of the sixth grade. The results indicate that science-journal writing has influenced the students positively in the academic achievement of a lower group's academic achievements, in science related attitudes, 'voluntariness' and 'cooperation', in science learning motives, 'self-satisfaction for science', 'superficial strategies for science', and 'expectation for science', in fear level for science subjects, its lower fear class, 'experiment performance'. A middle group was revealed to have more positive improvement in 'cooperation' and 'perseverance', both of which were lower categories of science related attitudes, and as subgrade of science learning motives, 'self-efficiency for science' and 'expectation for science' stood out. For fear level for science subjects, the lower group gained distinctive results from 'science evaluation'.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the uses of the external representations in the $3{\sim}6th$ grade science textbooks developed under the 7th National Curriculum on the basis of the theories and the research results on learning with the multiple representations. The results showed that the frequencies of the macroscopic external representations were higher than those of the symbolic external representations. The external representations with drawing and/or writing, especially writing, were used more frequently than those without drawing and/or writing. However, the most of the external representations were rarely used according to the principles and/or the theories (e.g., personalization principle, dual coding theory, cognitive load theory, and social constructivism theory) for effective uses of the multiple external representations in the science textbooks. The present study provides the guideline to establish the effective uses of the external representations in the science textbooks that not only meet learners but also teachers.

  • Purpose: The purposes of study was to evaluate the effect of debriefing using reflection questions and writing on the critical thinking disposition, self-efficacy, and clinical judgement ability in simulation of post-operative care of abdominal surgery. Methods: The research method was a nonequivalent control group no-synchronized design. The study period was from August 22 to 30, 2016. The subjects were comprised of 34 people in the experimental group and 36 in the control group. In a simulation session for post-operative care of abdominal surgery, the treatment of the experimental group was to debrief for 30 minutes using Lasater's reflection questions and writing. For the control group, a typical debriefing was conducted in the same environment. Results: Critical thinking disposition, self-efficacy, and clinical judgement were significantly higher in the experimental group than the control group. Conclusion: To enhance the critical thinking disposition, self-efficacy, and clinical judgement of nursing students in simulation, it is recommended to debrief using reflection questions and writing.

  • Large language models (LLMs) such as ChatGPT have garnered considerable interest for their potential to aid non-native English-speaking researchers. These models can function as personal, round-the-clock English tutors, akin to how Prometheus in Greek mythology bestowed fire upon humans for their advancement. LLMs can be particularly helpful for non-native researchers in writing the Introduction and Discussion sections of manuscripts, where they often encounter challenges. However, using LLMs to generate text for research manuscripts entails concerns such as hallucination, plagiarism, and privacy issues; to mitigate these risks, authors should verify the accuracy of generated content, employ text similarity detectors, and avoid inputting sensitive information into their prompts. Consequently, it may be more prudent to utilize LLMs for editing and refining text rather than generating large portions of text. Journal policies concerning the use of LLMs vary, but transparency in disclosing artificial intelligence tool usage is emphasized. This paper aims to summarize how LLMs can lower the barrier to academic writing in English, enabling researchers to concentrate on domain-specific research, provided they are used responsibly and cautiously.

  • As digital video communication technology advances and global interactions become more frequent, cultural barriers between countries are gradually diminishing. Subtitles in TV content reflect the writing systems and cultural contexts of different countries, aiding in the comprehension of program content. However, when comparing subtitles between countries with different writing systems, variations in format and the representation of onomatopoeic expressions become apparent. Therefore, this study focuses on analyzing the differences and peculiarities in the onomatopoeic subtitles of Korean and Chinese variety shows, which are based on distinct writing systems. Through this analysis, the study aims to understand how differences in writing systems influence the representation of onomatopoeic subtitles and viewer experience. This investigation is expected to provide creative inspiration for variety show producers and facilitate cross-cultural communication.
