  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to investigate regional commitment index(RGI) of hospital in Korea, and the relationship RGI and hospital characteristics, such as foundation, region, size. Therefore, we are to suggest fundamental information to make and evaluate healthcare resource policy in hospital- and government-level. Methods : The 'Patient Survey 2002(administered by Ministry of Health and Social Welfare(MOHW)' was analyzed. We selected the patient data of the hospitals above 100 beds. Then, we calculated the RGI, number of same cases divided by all cases in each hospital. By using SPSS/win ver 14.0, statistical analysis such as t-test, ANOVA, correlational and regression analysis was carried out. Results : The results are as follows. 1. Overall mean and standard deviation of RGI were revealed as 0.805${\pm}$0.225 in inpatients, and 0.871${\pm}$0.184 in outpatient. The median of inpatients' and outpatients' RGI were 0.890 and 0.933. The RGI of inpatients of private hospitals were revealed significantly higher than that of the public(public: 0.727, private: 0.822). However, outpatients' RGI was not revealed as significantly different. 2. The RGI of general specialty hospitals were significantly lower than others, therefore we could think that more inpatients and outpatients of general specialty hospitals flowed in from others province or metropolitan cities than other hospital types. 3. The RGI of hospitals holding above 400 beds were significantly lower than others in inpatients and outpatients. 5. The RGI of hospitals were significantly different among sixteen province and metropolitan cities. The RGI inpatients of Gwangju and Daejon metropolitan city were lowest sub-group(0.659, 0.664), and the RGI inpatients of Jeju was revealed as highest, 0.979. 6. Available beds, total doctors, and total employees were negatively correlated with RGI of inpatients and outpatients. 7. The significant influencing factors to RGI of inpatients and outpatients were appeared samely such as available beds, wide healthcare region, hospital size, and foundation type. Conclusions : It is considered that RGI of hospital represent competitive power in healthcare market. Also, the competitive advantage and quality of hospital clustered by characteristics could made out by RGI. Therefore, the results of this study would be useful to develop and evaluate hospital policy of individual hospital or local government.

  • Our study attempt is to see organizational performance according to the differences between types of hospital cultures. To determine theoretical relationship between the organizational culture and the performance, we select two hospitals in Pusan which are different in the purposes and shapes of establishment. We surveyed their members on a questionnaire based on the type of the organizational culture of the two institutions, analyzed, and review its organizational effectiveness. For the survey with questionnaires, which had been preliminary studied to raise its validity, question forms were distributed to 528 persons in April, 1999 based on the self-responses and recollected within 48 hours. The recollection rate was high(89.96%) and the quantity of questionnaires used for our final analysis was 430(81.44%). The Cronbach Coefficient Alpha of the questionnaires was 0.742. Regarding statistical techniques for analysis of the written materials, dispersion analysis(ANOVA) was adapted to test the organizational effectiveness of the two hospitals having the different organizational cultures, and Pearson Correlation was applied to determine correlations was among all variables. T-test was performed to test organizational effectiveness based on the differences in the extent of sharing the culture, organizational committment and work satisfaction between the two health institutions. From our analysis, we obtain the following conclusions. First, concerning with organizational culture of the two hospital, one of which is a christian hospital and the other is a private foundation hospital, the former is conservative and human-oriented but the latter focuses on renovation and accomplishment. Second, the private establishment has a relatively higher organizational effectiveness that the religious hospital as a result of analyzing the extent of sharing culture, organizational committment and work satisfaction. Third, it has been found that the correlations between the extent of the sharing culture and the organizational committment, the extent and work satisfaction, and the committment and the satisfaction are respectively positive influencing organizational effectiveness, especially work satisfaction. Fourth, cultural factors by which the christian hospital is affected more positively including human relations among its members, belief, its idea of establishment, tradition, work responsibility, power, and wage. On the other hand, factors such as director's leadership, personnel management, wage, hospital regulations and department managers' management ability have been seen as negative influences in order. And fifth, for the private foundation hospital human relations among its members, wages, work responsibility, director's leadership and department managers' management ability were positive in their sequence while wages, personnel management, hospital regulations, welfare and department managers' management ability were considered as negative influences in order. As these results of this study, the higher extent of sharing organizational culture, the more increasing in both organization committment and work satisfaction, the higher the effectiveness. Although it was somewhat difficult to generalize the results whose subjects were the two hospitals only, it was obvious that organizational culture was an important influential factor of organizational effectiveness. It is questionable that the extent of sharing organizational culture, organizational committment and work satisfaction as variables affecting the effectiveness have their validity, but this study has its significance in that it provided an approaching to evaluate the organizational culture of individual hospitals making allowances for such variables related to the general activities in its hospital. We hope the results of the study could be useful for the managerial strategies of the institutions.

  • Recently, Korean society has emphasized the level of digital information usage in each individual's life due to the advent of the intelligent information society and the great digital transformation. The purpose of this study is to examine how the level of digital information usage of people with disabilities affects their satisfaction with life and whether social support moderates the relationship between the level of digital information usage and life satisfaction. This study analyzed the data of 2,200 people with disabilities taken from the 2020 Survey on the Digital Divide conducted by the National Information Society Agency. The results of the analysis suggest that people with disabilities have a higher degree of satisfaction when they are employed and have a higher than average monthly income and higher levels of digital information usage and social support. In addition, the results show that social support played a negative moderator role between the level of digital information usage and life satisfaction. This shows that life satisfaction can increase when the disabled frequently use digital devices and technologies in their daily lives without relying on social support, and suggested the need for intervention in policies and practice sites.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the current status of elderly sports both domestically and internationally, and to explore strategies for the activation of Silver Taekwondo as one of the sports disciplines for the elderly. To investigate the status of elderly sports globally, press releases and statistical data from various national public institutions and sports facilities (including the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Ministry of Health and Welfare, the Korean Statistical Information Service, e-National Indicators, and the Korea Sports Promotion Foundation) were collected. Comparative analysis with related papers, journals, and books led to the following findings for activating Silver Taekwondo. Firstly, elderly sports in South Korea are primarily conducted through welfare centers, with a preference for dance, yoga, and music, while martial arts, including Taekwondo, had a lower preference rate. To increase participation in Silver Taekwondo, a variety of marketing approaches, similar to those used internationally, such as experiential case studies in media, film production, distribution, and telephone promotions, are necessary. Secondly, the development of Silver Taekwondo programs tailored to the training targets and the cultivation of instructors capable of executing these programs are needed. The development of programs should involve collaboration with Taekwondo institutions, dojangs, universities, and lifelong education centers, requiring the participation of majoring students and elderly sports instructors.
