  • Multiclass classification is typically performed using the voting scheme method based on combining binary classifications. In this paper we propose multiclass classification method for large data, which can be regarded as the revised one-vs-all method. The multiclass classification is performed by using the hat matrix of least squares support vector machine (LS-SVM) ensemble, which is obtained by aggregating individual LS-SVM trained on each subset of whole large data. The cross validation function is defined to select the optimal values of hyperparameters which affect the performance of multiclass LS-SVM proposed. We obtain the generalized cross validation function to reduce computational burden of cross validation function. Experimental results are then presented which indicate the performance of the proposed method.

  • Objectives: This study was performed to evaluate the analytical method for PAH metabolites in human urine using enzyme hydrolysis and solid-phase extraction coupled with LC-(ESI)-MS/MS technique. Methods: We employed HPLC tandem mass spectrometry techniques with appropriate pre-treatment for analysis of 16 OH-PAHs in human urine. Samples were hydrolysis by ${\beta}$-flucuronidase/Aryl sulfatase, and target compounds were extracted by solid-phase extraction with a strata-x cartridge. Cross-validation was performed between Eulji University and Green Cross laboratories with 200 human urine samples. Results: The accuracies were between 90.3% and 118.8%, and precisions (relative standard deviations) were lower than 10%. The linearity obtained was satisfying for the 16 OH-PAH compounds, with a coefficient of determination ($r^2$) higher than 0.99. The results of cross-validation at the two organizations were compared by ICC (interclass correlation coefficient) values. The cross-validation results were excellent or good for all compounds. Conclusion: An analytical method was validated for low nanogram levels of 16 OH-PAHs in human urine. Also, satisfying results were obtained for method validation such as accuracy, precision and ICC of cross-validation.

  • According to Japanese Patent Act, the Japanese Patent Office, administrative organization, was authorized to decide validation of patent. However, Supreme Court of Japan held that a court is able to decide the invalidation of patent in 11th April, 2000, which caused the reform of Japanese Patent Act in June 2004. Reformed Patent Act established the article 104-3 and makes it for a court to decide the patentability where there are grounds for a patent invalidation. Through this amendment to the Patent Act, the legislative system to decide the patent validation has been reorganized and furthermore alleged infringer is allowed to argue against the patent validation by making use of infringement litigation procedure through defenses against patent invalidation as well as invalidation trial procedure for to file a request for a trial for patent invalidation to the Japanese Patent Office. That is to say, the article 104-3 was established in the Japanese Patent Act in the wake of Kilby, and thus a court, which is judicial authority, not administrative disposition agency is also able to decide the patent validation. Thus this article discuss how a court, the authority of which only patent infringement cases fell under, has been authorized to arbitrate cases about the patent validation and the decision of the patent validation in a court.

  • As an effort to secure Semantic Web, in this paper, we introduce an RDF access authorization model based on an ontology hierarchy and an RDF triple pattern. In addition, we apply the authorization model to RDF query validation for approved access authorizations. A subscribed SPARQL or RQL query, which has RDF triple patterns, can be denied or granted according to the corresponding access authorizations which have an RDF triple pattern. In order to efficiently perform the query validation process, we first analyze some primary authorization conflict conditions under RDF subsumption inference, and then we introduce an efficient query validation algorithm using the conflict conditions and Dewey graph labeling technique. Through experiments, we also show that the proposed validation algorithm provides a reasonable validation time and when data and authorizations increase it has scalability.

  • As various accidents have occurred in underground spaces, we aim to improve the quality validation standards and methods as specified in the Regulations on Producing Integrated Map of Underground Spaces devised by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport of the Republic of Korea for a high-quality integrated map of underground spaces. Specifically, we propose measures to improve the quality assurance of pipeline-type underground facilities, the so-called life lines given their importance for citizens' daily activities and their highest risk of accident among the 16 types of underground facilities. After implementing quality validation software based on the developed quality validation standards, the adequacy of the validation standards was demonstrated by testing using data from two-dimensional water supply facilities in some areas of Busan, Korea. This paper has great significance in that it has laid the foundation for reducing the time and manpower required for data quality inspection and improving data quality reliability by improving current quality validation standards and developing technologies that can automatically extract errors through software.

  • Consider the problem of estimating the underlying regression function from a set of noisy data which is contaminated by a long tailed error distribution. There exist several robust smoothing techniques and these are turned out to be very useful to reduce the influence of outlying observations. However, no matter what kind of robust smoother we use, we should choose the smoothing parameter and relatively less attention has been made for the robust bandwidth selection method. In this paper, we adopt the idea of robust location parameter estimation technique and propose the robust cross validation score functions.

  • A convenient algorithm for optimizing wavelength selection in multiple linear regression (MLR) has been developed. MOP (MLP Optimization Program) has been developed to test all possible MLR calibration models in a given spectral range and finally find an optimal MLR model with external validation capability. MOP generates all calibration models from all possible combinations of wavelength, and simultaneously calculates SEC (Standard Error of Calibration) and SEV (Standard Error of Validation) by predicting samples in a validation data set. Finally, with determined SEC and SEV, it calculates another parameter called SAD (Sum of SEC, SEV, and Absolute Difference between SEC and SEV: sum(SEC+SEV+Abs(SEC-SEV)). SAD is an useful parameter to find an optimal calibration model without over-fitting by simultaneously evaluating SEC, SEV, and difference of error between calibration and validation. The calibration model corresponding to the smallest SAD value is chosen as an optimum because the errors in both calibration and validation are minimal as well as similar in scale. To evaluate the capability of MOP, the determination of benzene content in unleaded gasoline has been examined. MOP successfully found the optimal calibration model and showed the better calibration and independent prediction performance compared to conventional MLR calibration.

  • Several self-administered dietary assessment questionnaires have recently been developed, validated, and used in nutritional epidemiological and clinical studies in Japan. This article describes recent evidence on development and validation of them. After extensive search of published articles both in English and Japanese languages, we identified 25 articles on 13 questionnaires of which validation studies have existed. Number of foods/menus assessed varied from 31 to 169 according to questionnaires. Eleven questionnaires were food frequency type, either with fixed portion size or semiquantitative, and two diet history types. All the 13 questionnaires were validated against intakes assessed with dietary record or 24-hour recall, and only two with biomarkers. Number of subjects used in the studies was between 23 and 350. All the studies used adult subjects. In the studies with dietary record or recall, the correlation coefficient for or orgy intake was between 0.22 and 0.65 (median = 0.44). Median correlation coefficient for nutrients was between 0.21 and 0.61. In the studies with biomarkers, serum marine-origin n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids and carotenes, and urinary potassium seemed useful biomarkers. In conclusion, recent progress of this field in Japan is remarkable. But more research is needed for validation studies with biomarkers, and the development and validation of questionnaires for children and elderly subjects. (J Community Nutrition 5(2) : 83∼92,2003)
