The development of life science has given many insights into life phenomenons to mankind. Nevertheless, many questions for various phenomenon in life has not been satisfied. Recently, scientific development in human's knowledge showed the limitation of science comparing With the variety of life phenomenon. The fundmental reason of the limitation is thought that the subject of study in life science has been material, and so life has been thought a matter of material in life science. The thought of Hu Jun about this problem, the nature of living things is an important interest in Korean Traditional Medicine, Haneuihak(韓醫學). In this study, the view of human body and disease of Hu Jun(許浚) about the nature of living things which was appeared in 『Donguibogam』 was illuminated. The content of 『Donguibogam』 was edited in the order of Naekyung(內景篇; internal part of the body)ㆍOuihyung(外形編; external part of the body)ㆍJabbyung(雜病篇; diseases)ㆍTangaek(湯液偏; medicinal decoction)ㆍChimgu(針灸篇; acupuncture and moxibustion). The part of Naekyung(內景篇; internal part of the body) is thesis about basic theories and his thought about human body and life, which was seen in ‘Shinhyungjangbu-do(身形臟腑圖; figure of body and shape, and the organs and viscera)’ㆍthe part of ‘Jeong(精)’ㆍ‘Gi(氣)’ㆍ‘Sin(神)’ theory. In this study, the parts which were related with his view of life were selected and compared with the China philosohy of those days to elucidate what is his thought of life appeared in 『Donguibogam』.
Traditional doenjang with Lentinus edodes added at a concentration of 0, 3, 5 and 10% (w/w) was prepared and its physicochemical characteristics were analyzed during fermentation for 6 months. The moisture content, salt level and pH for doenjang were decreased with increasing addition of Lentinus edodes powder, but crude protein content was increased. Among the free sugars, glucose, galactose, arabinose, sucrose and maltose were identified and quantified, with the first two being the major free sugar. Minerals were detected in the order of Na> K> P> Ca> Mg> Fe while the content of Cu, Mn and Zn exhibited little change. The contents of each amino acid of traditional doenjang with added Lentinus edodes, glutamic, leucine and aspartic acids, had a much higher level. In fatty acid compositions, palmitic, stearic, oleic and linoleic acids were analyzed, with oleic acid being the most abundant fatty acid at $56.4{\pm}0.8\sim57.5{\pm}0.5%$ in all the tested samples. GMP and IMP contents of nucleotides and their related compounds were extremely high. It was thought that these substances contributed to the sweet taste of traditional doenjang with added Lentinus edodes. These results showed the applicability and high quality of traditional doenjang with added Lentinus edodes.
There is a increasingly growing emphasis on health promotion, disease prevention and optimum functioning for peaple including the chronically ill and disabled. According as the purpose of the nursing is the promotion of health, the value and belief of heal th within the nursing paradigm need to be defined in every culture. The paradigm components must be explored for meaning given by the aged in their traditional thought and philosophy, The problem addressed by this qualitative study was how the aged recognize value and belief of health, which contribute to the development of Korean nursing theory. Theoretical support for the study was from Leininger's cultural care theory and Korean philosophy and traditional oriented thought. Literature review refers to literature on the aged, health of the aged, and definition and meaning of general health concept. Grounded theory methodology guied the research methodology and analysis to build a substantive theory. The informants were 119 from a variety of social levels and family patterns; traditionally the aged are responsible for the health. The concentrated interviewing period was from may to june, 1995 ; the interviews were done by the researcher with two supporter and most were recorded on audio tape. Result from analysis of base datas follows; The value and belief of health that emerged from the categories and properties were the physical stability, the stability of mind, the stability of mind and body, the smoothness (harmony) of body function, the family concord, and the perfection of self. These values and beliefs of health are affected by the cosmic dual forces thought is based on the Great Absolute, family principle of confucian scholar, and Buddism. Among the values and beliefs of health, family concord is found out Korean culture peculiarities. These values and beliefs are all integrated into the idea of health. The study provided implications for nursing theory research, education, and practice change and development.
Main theme of this study is the acceptance phase of western architectural culture in modern east-north asia through a series of actual survey and typological analysis of existing church buildings in modern Korea. China. Japan. For this study, 126 modern church buildings of Korea, China, Japan are selected. Also, main subject of this study has deal with the side of culture - thought which background of christianity acceptance and acceptance mind of acceptance main-body, culture adaptation and transformation based on characteristic culturalization of Korea, China, Japan. Especially, I would consistently tried to see the acceptance phase of western architectural culture according to differential acceptance mind of acceptance main-body based on characteristic culturalization of three countries. Conclusively, in the point of view of western architectural culture acceptance phase, it could be said that Korean church architecture had characterized as a blending phase of the two eclectic architectural culture. And in the case of china, as a coexistance phase of the two architectural culture with more western style-oriented. On the other hand, Japanese church architecture had characterized as a syncretism phase of the both traditional and western architectural culture, though it is eclectic style-oriented. Therefore, it is thought that different acceptance mind of western culture had main factors caused of differential acceptance phase, when the two architectural culture, the traditional and the western, encounters.

Daesoon philosophy has been described as a quintessential Korean philosophy. Given the great difference between traditional Western and East Asian ways of thinking, how can such a quintessential Korean philosophy be explained to people who have no background in traditional East Asian thought? After all, the Daeson Jinrihoe way of approaching such core problems as how to make this world a better place is not only very different from the way the West has traditionally approached such problems, Daesoon Jinrihoe uses terminology which most Westerners are not very familiar with. Translation into Western languages such as English helps, but a conceptual gap remains because of the differences in the way key Daesoon Jinrihoe terms are understood in the West. As a first step toward overcoming that gap, I discuss three key teachings of Daesoon philosophy and how their translations into English need to be amplified so that people in the West who are not well versed in East Asian philosophy can gain a more accurate understanding of what those terms and phrases mean in their original language. The three items discussed here are the tenet "virtuous concordance of yin and yang," the Essential Attitude of sincerity, and the precept "do not deceive yourself."

The introductionof Won Buddhism to the United States has reached its fifty-year mark. Brought to the West by Korean kyomus (Won Buddhist clergy), these initial Won Buddhist clergy set a foundation for future ordained devotees to reside in America and further the religion's mission. Innovation has always played an important role in the formation and growth of Won Buddhism. The founder, Sotaesan, declared the necessity to reform traditional Buddhism to make it accessible to the laity and espoused values such as inclusiveness, equality, public work, and practicality. Over the past few decades, these innovations have helped Won Buddhism in America to shift from a strictly ethnic-related context to an emphasis on its universal nature. However, as the religion continues achieving a foothold in Western soil, critical questions arise such as how can Won Buddhism honor its Korean origins while becoming increasingly international? What are the detriments to decontextualizing and de-emphasizing elements thought to be "too Korean" or "too traditional," or thought to be irrelevant in the West? When Buddhism spreads to a new country, it not only influences the culture it enters but is also shaped by the adopting culture. In American history, this has often meant the erasure of Asian cultures that were home to Buddhism for millennia and from which the dharma is inextricable. I argue in this article that if Won Buddhism is to thrive in the United States conscious consideration will have to be given to the indispensable aspects of its Korean roots and tradition while connecting with the current circumstance in fresh, relevant, and effective ways that include the multi-cultural and ethnic makeup of the US. This entails understanding American history and Asian Buddhism's history in America, as well as cultivating a competency or fluency in the cultures that allowed Won Buddhism to survive for decades.

This study looks into the Korean traditional costume formation and the thoughts of the Korean people that form the foundation of that Korean traditional costume formation. And the goal of this study is in linking the thoughts and formative characteristics reflected in the Korean traditional costume formation to the fractal geometry, in an attempt to reveal correlation between Korean traditional costume formation which have existed for thousands of years to contemporary science of the West. The fractal theory that appeared as the new paradigm of contemporary science displayed similarities with the traditional ideologies of Korea, and the fact that formation principles of fractal appear in the formation of Korean costume, formed based on the Korean ideologies, show magnanimous capacity of the traditional Korean culture. When we look at the concept of fractal, the word fractal refers to the structure in which the shape repeats, where small structure is similar to the whole structure in form in endlessly repeating structure. In other words, 'fractal' means a structure that geometrically untangles the concept of 'self-similarity' which possesses the same shape in parts and in whole, and its major characteristics include 'self-similarity', 'circularity' and 'repeatability'. Korean costumes were formed based on the Han-thoughts, with a structure that possesses parts within the whole and the whole within parts, in accordance with the self-similarity theory of 'fractal'. This study compared studied fractal phenomenon which appear in formation characteristics of Korean traditional costume, which were formed based on the Korean traditional ideology, in other words, Korean costume formation and formation principles of fractal geometry were compared studied.

The purpose of this research was to compare the evaluation of tone on tone coloration of traditional Korean dress by Korean and American women college students. The respondents were asked to evaluate 48 stimuli of the traditional Korean skirt and jacket with different tone of color. The evaluation of Korean and American students admit of various interpretation, and it can'be said that they were caused by their different cultural bacgrounds. The results of reseach can be summerized as follows. As to the red colors, Korean students evaluated vivid skirt and light or dark jacket, light skirt and vivid or dull, dark jacket, dull skirt and light jacket as harmonized. But American students judged light skirt and dull and light jacket as not harmonized. As to the yellow colors, both Korean and American students had common opinions that light skirt and dull jacket are well harmonized. Korean students thought vivid skirt and dull jacket, light skirt and dull, dark jacket, dull skirt and dark jacket are well harmonized. American students thought light skirt and vivid, light, dull jacket dull skirt and light jacket are well harmonnized. As to the green colors, Korean students evaluated vivid skirt and dull, dark jacket, light skirt and vivid, dull, dark jacket are well harmonized. But American students evaluated vivid skirt and light jacket, light skirt and dark jacket, dark skirt and vivid or light jacket are not harmonized. Among 48 stimuli of tone on tone coloration, Korean students evaluated 18 set and American students judged 30 set as harmonized.
The purpose of this study is understanding the principle of space construction in traditional houses in Cheju under the premise of house being the dweller's place. I studied it by shamanist interpretatiov. First I understood the quality and meaning of space by the theory of space and shamanism. As the method of study. I studied the space theory and shamanism and had a general idea of them. And then I looked upon the concept of space as residence and analyzed the traditional houses in Cheju. The conclusion of the study is this. I considered shamanism as a part of their way of life. Thus shamanism was a chief idea of Cheju people's thought, religion, and a view of the world. Naturally shamanism was the chief principle with which Cheju people constructed the residence. Because this cultural social aspect of shamanism, it is understood and used as the principle of space construct in modern architecture of Cheju.

Objectives: This study was aimed to present the experts' opinions for the successful application of Korean traditional medical practices (KTMPs) to the International Classification of Health Intervention (ICHI). Methods: Two doctors of Korean Medicine and two health information managers who had tried coding 131 KTMPs using ICHI participated in the focus group discussion. The remarks from the discussion were summarized according to the thematic analysis method. Results: The participants expected ICHI to be mainly used for statistics when applied to TKMPs. It can be used for payment systems as well, but it was expected that additional work would be required. They thought the current version of the ICHI did not sufficiently reflect the KMTPs of the real world, and even the interventions already included in the ICHI were not explained enough in the system. They thought it would not be easy to explain more KTMPs within the current structure of the ICHI, but they also said it seemed possible. In the process, rather than adding entirely new stem codes, it would be better to generate new combinations of the existing codes, to suppose subdivided codes, and to utilize the include terms or extension codes. Conclusions: For the successful introduction of ICHI, clarifying the definition of each intervention of KTMPs is a top priority. In addition, it is necessary to continue the matching work of ICHI - KMPTs and also required to make this effort together with the field of traditional medicine and complementary medicine worldwide.
