점토광물 조성이 상이한 토양의 점토활성도와 이화학적 특성 (Clay Activity and Physico-chemical Properties of Korean Soils with Different Clay Minerals)

  • 토양광물 종류별 토양의 점토활성도를 구분하기 위하여 우리나라 390개 토양통을 점토광물과 함수산화광물을 기준으로 점토광물 조성이 다른 7개의 토양을 선정하여 토양광물 종류에 따른 점토의 CEC와 비표면적을 비교하였다. 토양 CEC에 대한 점토의 비가 0.7 이상인 토양은 사암을 모재로 Chlorite를 주광물로 하는 토양, 안산암질반암을 모재로 Smectite를 함유한 토양, 화산재를 모재로 Allophane과 Ferrihydrite가 주광물로 이루어진 토양이었으며, 점토활성도 0.3-0.7인 토양은 회장석을 모재로 Kaolin이 주광물 토양, 하성퇴적토를 모재로 Kaolin, Illite, Vermiculite가 혼합된 토양이었다. 또한 점토활성도 0.3이하인 토양은 화강암 및 화강편마암 모재의 Kaolin을 주광물로 Geothite와 Hematite가 함유된 적황색계 토양, 석회암 모재의 Illite와 Vermiculite를 주광물로 Gibbsite, Geothite, Hematite가 함유된 적황색계 토양이었다. 토양의 점토활성도는 점토의 CEC, 점토의 비표면적과 상관이 있어서 점토활성도가 높은 토양에서는 점토의 CEC가 높고 점토의 비표면적이 넓었다. 따라서 토양의 점토활성도는 기존의 점토광물의 정성과 정량분석을 실시하지 않고도 토양의 일반적인 분석을 통하여 토양 중 점토광물의 조성을 추정하고 토양의 물리-화학적 특성을 예측하는데 유용한 기준이 될 것으로 생각된다.

The Response of Nitrogen Deposition to Methane Oxidation Availability and Microbial Enzyme Activities in Forest Soils

  • Forest soils are often nitrogen-limited, and nitrogen input to forest soils can cause substantial changes in the structure and functions of a soil ecosystem. To determine the effects of nitrogen input on methane oxidation and the microbial enzyme activities, manipulation experiments were conducted using nitrogen addition to soil samples from Mt. Jumbong. Our findings suggested that the addition of nitrogen to the soil system of Mt. Jumbong did not affect the microbial enzyme activities. Conversely, the addition of nitrogen affected the rate of methane oxidation. Inorganic nitrogen in soils can inhibit methane oxidation via several mechanisms, such as substrate competition, toxic effects, and competition with other microbes, but the inhibitory effects are not always the same. In this research, seasonal changes were found to produce different inhibitory factors, and these different responses may be caused from differences in the methantrophic bacteria community structure.

일부 공업지역 주변의 토양과 곡류중에 미량금속 함량 및 상관관계에 관한 조사연구 (A Study on Trace Metal Contents and Correlation Analysis between Cereal and Soils in the Vicinity of Industrial Area Korea)

  • In order to grasp, status of trace metals contained and corelation analysis between cereal and soils, the samples which have been collected from four myeons in Ulju-ku Ulsan-city were 48 for cereal and 48 for soils. The average Hg containing level of samples is 0.006 ppm for cereal and 0.062 ppm for soil, Pb is 0.302 ppm for cereal and 0.885 ppm for soil, and Zn is 7.853 ppm for cereal and 2.366 ppm for soil. Corelation analysis between cereal and soils showed statistical significance for Hg, Pb and Cu, but it didn't show any significance for Cd and Zn.

Chytrid Distribution in Diverse Boreal Manitoba Sites

  • Soil samples were collected in thirteen Manitoba boreal forest sites. Spatial distribution of chytrids from diverse boreal forest microhabitats was investigated by baiting with jack pine pollen. After baiting, the pollen was surveyed for chytrids for 8 ten day period and individual species were counted. Total infestations of pollen by chytrids ranged from 5.8% to 90.2% from various soils. Each site with high infestation was characterized by litter with high needle content while mineral soil or soil with limited organic matter yielded low levels of pollen infestation. Species diversity tended to be higher in soils with higher pollen infestation and lower in soils with lower pollen infestation. Lower diversity was generally observed in mineral soils or soils with a limited organic horizon comprised, in part, of broad leaf litter. Based on coefficients of association and species in common among species across the collection sites, it was possible to relate dominant species assemblages in site groups. These species assemblages in the site groups suggest that the chytrids are distributed by litter and soil types. It can be concluded that the substratum characteristics of litter types and availability of litter may be important in describing chytrid distribution in boreal forest sites.

Calculation of Thermal Conductivity and Heat Capacity from Physical Data for Some Representative Soils of Korea

  • The thermal properties including volumetric heat capacity, thermal conductivity, thermal diffusivity, and diurnal and annual damping depths of 10 representative soil series of Korea were calculated using some measurable soil parameters based on the Taxonomical Classification of Korean Soils. The heat capacity of soils demonstrated a linear function of water content and ranged from 0.2 to $0.8cal\;cm^{-3}^{\circ}C^{-1}$ for dry and saturated medium-textured soil, respectively. A small increase in water content of the dry soils caused a sharp increase in thermal conductivity. Upon further increases in water content, the conductivity increased ever more gradually and reached to a maximum value at saturation. The transition from low to high thermal conductivity occurred at low water content in the soils with coarse texture, and at high water content in the other textures. Thermal conductivity ranged between $0.37{\times}10^{-3}cal\;cm^{-1}s^{-1}^{\circ}C^{-1}$ for dry (medium-textured) soil and $4.01{\times}10^{-3}cal\;cm^{-1}s^{-1}^{\circ}C^{-1}$ for saturated (medium/coarse-textured) soil. The thermal diffusivity initially increased rapidly with small increases in water content of the soils, and then decreased upon further increases in the soil-water content. Even in an extreme soil with the highest diffusivity value ($1.1{\times}10^{-2}cm^2s^{-1}$), the daily temperature variation did not penetrate below 70 cm soil depth and the yearly variation not below 13.4 m as four times of damping depths.

우리나라 관개논에서 토양특성과 대형농기계를 사용한 경작년수에 따른 여름 강우기 분산성 점토의 함량 (Water-dispersible Clay Content in Summer Rainy Season for Korean Irrigated Rice Paddy Fields as Affected by Cultivated Years Using Heavy Agro-machinery and Soil Properties)

  • 우리나라 관개논의 여름철 강우기 Middleton's 분산성 점토는 불검출 ~ 4.8%의 범위로 나타났으며 최대값은 점토 함량 18% 이상 토양에서 나타났으나 점토 분산성은 점토 함량 18% 미만 토양에서 높게 나타났다. 대상지역의 60%에서 40마력이상 농기계를 사용한 경작연수가 길수록 분산성 점토 함량이 높은 값을 나타내었다. 단, 치환성 나트륨 함량 퍼센트의 차이가 큰 간척논은 예외로 나트륨함량이 높을수록 분산성 점토가 높았다.

삼림토양의 질소 무기화와 무기질소의 동태 (Nitrogen Mineralization and Dynamics in the Forest Soil)

  • Mineral nitrogen dynamics and net mineralization of nitrogen in oak(quercus accutissima) and pine(pinus rigida) forest soils were studied. Nitrogen mineralization was determined over 8-week period by incubation method at laboratory. Initial water content of incubating soils was adjusted by applying suction(30mmhg), and lossof water during incubation was recovered with deionized water using syringe at every 3 or 4days. Temperature of incubator was maintained with 35+0.3c during the incubation period. Content of organic matter, total nitrogen, nh4-n and no3-n in soils in oak stand were significantly highter than those in pine stand. soil ph was lower in pine stand than in oak stand. initial nh4-n and no3-n of soils used in incubation experiment were 12.6 ug/g and 6.5 ug/g for oak stand, and 5.3ug/g and 5.1 ug/g for pine stand, respectively. Production of nh4-n increased from the beginning st both stands, and showed a peak at 5th week in oak stand(28.5 ug/g) and 6th week in pine stand(16.7 ug/g), and then decreased. intial no3-n of soils in oak(6.5 ug/g) and pine(5.1ug/g)stands, increased to 36.2 ug/g in soils of oak stand(5th week) and 13.4 ug/g in pine stand(4th week), respectively. The low values of no3-n of the field soil in the growing season compared with those of incubating soils at both stands indicate that considerable amount of nh4-n and no3-n produced in soils of oak and pine stands during two-months incubation were 59.7 and 141.6mg/kg soil, and 51.9 and 41.2mg/kg soil, respectively.

가평 사문암 지역의 토양 별 식물체내 희토류 원소 함량 차이: 억세, 쑥, 산딸기를 근거로 (Differences of Rare Earth Element Concentrations of Plants in Top Soils of Gapyeong Serpentine Area: Based on the M. sinensis, A. vulgaris and R. crataegitolius)

  • Rare earth contents(REE) were analysed for the plants, M. sinensis. A. vulgaris and R. crataegitolius, from two different soils serpentine area consisting of serpentinite(SP) and non-serpentine area, containing amphibole schist(AS) of Gapyeong area, and were compared with soils and host rocks. The AS were high with the differences of several times in the top soils, and with the differences of several to ten times in the host rocks relative to the SP. In the same area, the SP were high in the soil, but the rocks for the AS. In the plants, the A. vulgaris were high, but low in the R. crataegitolius. Root parts were higher than the upper parts. Differences between the upper and root parts were big in the SP rather than the AS, and were big in the R. crataegitolius, but small in the M. sinensis. Among the parts of the plants, high elements were shown in the R. crataegitolius of the SP, and the A. vulgaris and M. sinensis of the AS. In the correlation coefficients, most of the REE showed positive relationships among the element pairs, especially high positive correlation coefficients in the upper parts of the SP.Differences of the soils and plants(average) were smalle in the M. sinensis and big in the R. crataegitolius. In the upper parts. contents of the A. vulgaris were close to the soils while the R. crataegitolius showed large discrepancies with the soils. In the root parts, contents of the A. vulgaris showed discrepancies with the soils regardless of soil types, but close in the R. crataegitolius of the SP and M. sinensis of the AS.

적철석 첨가에 의한 사질양토의 물리·화학적 특성변화 (Changes in Physical and Chemical Properties of Sandy Loam Soils by Hematite Addition)

  • 토양 적철석은 오염물질 및 영양분의 흡착과 미세한 입자들의 입단화 매개체로서 잘 알려져 있다. 미세하게 분말화 시킨 결정질 적철석을 두 사질 양토 (Anahuac and Crowley soils from the Southern Coastal Plain, USA)에 첨가하였을 때 나타나는 물리화학적 특성의 변화를 측정하였다. 적철석을 3% (무게비)까지 첨가하였을 때 토양의 투수율이 증가하였으나 그 이상 양을 첨가하였을 때 감소되었다. 토양의 입단안정도 (AS)는 적철석 첨가에 영향을 받지않았다. 같은 양의 적철석을 Anahuac soil과 Crolwey soil에 첨가하였을 때 높은 유기물의 함량과 낮은 Na 흡착비 (SAR: sodium adsorption ratio)를 가진 Anahuac soil은 Crowley soil에 비해 상대적으로 높은 투수율과 입단안정도를 보여주었다. 두 토양 모두 Zn 흡착은 약간 증가하였으나 인산염 흡착은 영향을 받지않았다.
