The research instruments were a questionnaire to gather demographic and disease-specific data, the Epilepsy Psycho- Social Effects Scale developed by Chaplin et al(1990), the Epilepsy Self Efficacy Scale developed by DiIorio et al(1992a) and translated by Park(1999), the Norbeck Social Support Questionnaire developed by Norbeck et al(1981) and translated by Oh(1985). Data were analyzed using the SPSS program. The results are as follow : 1. Of the 14 psychosocial adjustment areas, 75 of 101 subjects experienced problems in ten or more areas and 28 in all 14 areas. The severity of the psychosocial adjustment problem was moderate or more in six areas. 2. The score for self efficacy was an average of 1103.86 out of a possible 1800, for social support 117.57 for total functional out of a possible 720, and 48.21 for total network out of a possible 264. There were an average of five people on the network. The main network people were parents, brothers and sisters, spouse, friends. 3. Of the 14 psychosocial adjustment areas, six areas correlated with self efficacy and 'problems with taking medication' area had a negative correlation with social support. In conclusion, people with epilepsy have various problems in psychosocial adjustment. Nursing interventions using self efficacy should be developed to improve psychosocial adjustment in people with epilepsy. Also, instruments and interventions for regimen-specific supports which are suitable for epilepsy should be developed.
In analyzing the issues of ecotourism, collecting opinions of local residents and participants is an essential process because ecotourism needs to keep ecological sensitivity and respect local residents' ecological lives. Thus, the objective of this study is to analyze the local participants' attitude in resident-oriented ecotourism. Maha ecotourism site, as a study site, is located in Pyeongchang-gun, one of the twelve ecotourism sites designated by the Ministry of Environment. This site has drawn attention since the local government of Pyeongchang-gun transferred its management right on Maha ecotourism sit to the organization of local residents in 2013. This study uses Q methodology which is the most popular research method in analyzing people's subjectivity, that is, viewpoint and attitude. This study have found that there are four features in the subjectivities of participants toward ecotourism site: first group is the people who want more autonomous management right of local residents on Maha ecotourism site. Second group is the people who only want to stand by the ecotourism management. Third group is the people who focus on the migration of talented persons into their neighborhood owing to the program. Lastly, fourth group is the people who focus on the quality of the ecotourism program. In case of the second group, though they have negative opinions of the program, they have much interest in successful cases in other countries managed similar programs with Maha ecotourism. It would be effective for the group to have opportunities to experience successful ecotourism cases in other countries. On top of it, having seminars regarding ecotourism or holding community councils frequently would be very helpful for encouraging the second group of people to join in the ecotourism program actively like other groups of people. Supplying more manpower and developing various programs are also necessary in order to support other three groups.

The purpose of this study was to analyze how much demographic and disability-related characteristics influence the quality of life that employed and unemployed disabled people, and determine difference in the influence of those factors between the two disabled groups. For this purpose, the study utilized 1st-year(2016) data from the 2nd wave of the Korean Panel Study on Employment for the Disabled. The findings of this study can be summarized as follows. First, employment is a critical factor that influences the disabled's quality of life. Besides, there are some financial, socio-relational and physical factors on which that quality is heavily dependent. Second, employed disabled people's quality of life is even more influenced by financial factors, socio-relational factors and health state than demographic factors. Third, unemployed disabled people's quality of life is significantly influenced by some demographic factors like gender and age and some physical factors like disability grade and disability period as well as by factors found influencing employed disabled people's quality of life. Thus, the two disabled groups are different from each other in which factors influence their quality of life. Based on these findings, this study made suggestions for the disabled's better quality of life.
This study investigated and tested the overall level of dietary habits and health status/health management of the residents in a rural area. The interview survey was performed in March 2004 with a structured questionnaire to 510 residents who lived in Muan-Gun of Jeonnam province. The questionnaire was the abridged Scale of Dietary Habits and Health Status which surveys the morbidity, subjective health status, health management, and health examination. The Chi-squire method was used for some of the cross-sectional data. The 510 adult respondents were composed of 61.2% male and 38.3% female. In regularity of meal time, 56.3% of the subjects had a meal regularly(eating time), while 73.5% had a balanced diet(eating number). The habit of regular meal time was significantly higher in old people than in young people. The majority of the subjects had an appropriate meal amount. Unbalanced diet was higher in young people than in old people. 51.4% had the dining out and was significantly higher in younger people than in old people. In other questions, 60.7% of the subjects took a snack, 77.3% were under regular health management, and 49.6% had health examination. A minority of the respondents (31.3%) had disease, while 13.5% chronic disease, and 17.8% had acute disease. The level of dietary habits and general characteristics were positively correlated with each other, as were habits and health status. This study aims to explore the lived experiences of middle-aged people with disabilities after a stroke. Using van Manen's phenomenological qualitative method, this study obtained information through interviews with middle-aged people with disabilities after a stroke. The following main themes were extracted from the lived experiences of middle-aged people with disabilities who were interviewed: 'a life broken in half', 'discontinuity and isolation of life', 'being born again', 'fear of stroke relapse', and 'overcoming all difficulties through harmony in a family'. Therefore, the core theme on the lived experiences of middle-aged people with disabilities after a stroke is a shadow of relapse over lives that have to protect families. The implication of this study's results on policy making and actual practices are discussed focusing on the well-being of people with disabilities and their families.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between the oral health status of elderly people and their oral health-related quality of life. Methods : The subjects were the elderly people over 65 years old in Busan. A total of 479 elderly people participated in the study from general hospital, two research institutes, eight dental clinics, six welfare institutions, sixteen senior centers, and three nursing homes. The oral health impact profile-14 (OHIP-14) was used in the routine dental checkups of the elderly people. Results : Those who had no oral symptoms had a better oral health-related quality of life. Among the subfactors of the OHIP-14, significant differences were shown in functional limitation(p=0.001), physical pain(p<0.001), emotional discomfort(p<0.001), physical disability(p=0.001), emotional disability (p=0.001), social disability(p=0.005), physical handicap(p=0.003) and total OHIP-14(p<0.001). Those who had 18 sound teeth(natural teeth) or more had a better oral health-related quality of life. Among the subfactors of the OHIP-14, significant differences were shown in functional limitation(p<0.001), physical pain(p=0.007), emotional discomfort(p=0.019), physical disability(p=0.018), Emotional disability(p=.032) and total OHIP-14 (p=0.006). Conclusions : The results revealed a close relationship between oral health status and oral health-related quality of life. The number of sound teeth(natural teeth) and frequency of toothbrushing had a more positive influence. Therefore oral health programs for the elderly people can preserve remaining teeth. Toothbrushing is the best way to improve the quality of life in the elderly people.
