Cooling rate shows the highest as about 0.7$^{\circ}C$/hr on spring season and the lowest as about 0.3$^{\circ}C$/hr on september at plain place. The correlation coefficient between net radiation and cooling rate from sunrise to sunset was 0.63$^{**}$, It became higher to 0.90$^{**}$ when the wind speed decreased lower than 0.5 m/sec, and it decreased as the wind speed increased. On a clear and calm day, cooling rates were observed as 1.4$^{\circ}C$/hr on the plain (site 1, 2, 3), 1.2$^{\circ}C$/hr on the slope (site 4, 5) and 0.6$^{\circ}C$/hr on the top of mountain (site 6). In condition of the wind speed is 1.2~2 m/sec on a clear and calm day and the temperature on the top of mountain is lower than that of slope and plain, the temperature on the slope (site 4,5) was increased unlike our expectation.ion.

More than 2,500 accessions of squash germplasm are preserved in the National Agrobidiversity Center of RDA, Korea. We investigated the ecological and morphological characteristics on 100 accessions of the squash germplasms with a low viability. Two typical types of oriental squash (Cucurbita moschata) and western squash (Cucurbita maxima) are possessed 89 and 11 accessions, respectively. The origin of 100 accessions was divided into three groups, group I (Korea landraces with 81 accessions), group II (Nepal with 15 accessions) and group III (Russia, Uzbekistan, Laos, and Mexico with each one accession). Seventy eight accessions germinated at $27^{\circ}C$ in growth chamber. Days to first flowering of the female and male flower ranged from 32 days to 67 days and 24 days to 55 days after planting, respectively. Vine length showed the largest variation ranging from 357.8 cm to 1,465 cm, also the average length of ten stem node range has a variable ranges from 92 cm to 217.5 cm. All regenerated squash accessions have an only collided tendril and have three to seven lateral shoots. The flattened globe-shaped squash is the most predominant and exhibited ordinarily round shaped, ball shaped, long oblong-shaped, elongated shape, and pear shape. The average weight of fruit ranged from 1.33 kg to 7.95 kg. Sugar contents showed 5.4~12.6 $Brix^{\circ}$ without ripening period.
Preparative conditions and characteristics of six-vegetable and fruit juice were studied for the effects of mixing ratio, heat treatment and addition of sugar, salt and organic acid. The vegetables and fruit used were carrot(Ct), cabbage(Cg), pear(Pr), cucumber(Cr), celery(Cy) and dongchimi(Di). From the sensory results of mixing ratio of three of binary mixtures of Cg-Pr(1:3):Ct-Di(1:4):Cr-Cy(3:1), two ratios of 5.0:2.5:2.5(V-6A) and 6.0:2.0:2.0(V-6B) were suggested optimal for six-vegetable and fruit juice. Addition of 2% sucrose and 0.3% NaCl improved the preference significantly. The pH 4.0 for V-6A and pH 3.5 for V-6B were more prefered when pH was adjusted by citric acid. Heating the juice at $100^{\circ}C$ for 100 minutes slightly decreased pH and increased the acidity. Total solids and viscosity were also decreased by heating. All of those changes were more significant in V-6B than V-6A, probably due to lower pH. Heating the juice resulted in a slight decrease in L value and an increase in a and b values. Heating at $100^{\circ}C$ caused an increase in moldy flavor and a decrease in fresh vegetable flavor while heating at $80^{\circ}C$ for 20 minutes changed them little.
The purpose of this research was to investigate consumption and satisfaction of Takju (Makgeolli) among consumers ages 20 to 29 living in Seoul and Gyeonggi province. It was found that 86.2% of the respondents drank Takju once or twice a month, and the high satisfaction group drank Takju with a frequency of 8 times a month (P<0.01). Respondents selected market (44.4%) and restaurants (34.9%) as the most common place of purchase, whereas pub (42.2%) and Takju bar (32.8%) were the drinking places selected. Regarding the preferred ingredients, respondents liked pear the most followed by Lycium chinense, corn, pine nuts, ginseng, and citrus fruit. The most compatible foods with Takju were identified as Buchimgae (Jeon) (97.4%), Kimchi (45.6%), Bokkeum (36.4%), Namul & Muchim (25.0%), and Jjim (21.5%). Pajeon was mentioned as the most compatible food with Takju, followed by Bulgogi, Gamjatang, Agwijjim, Dubukimchibokkeum, and Ojingeotwigim. Regarding consumers' satisfaction of Takju, taste was the most highly valued, with color, price, alcohol content, function, flavor, diversity of raw materials, and accuracy of label also highly considered. Further, to formulate a plan to encourage consumption of Takju, the high satisfaction group decided that promotion of local festivals and events related to Takju, standardization of quality, creation of brands, expansion of distribution network, and organization of relevant departments are the most important compared to other items (P<0.05).
Imago's flight activities of Protaetia brevitarsis were from mid June to early September, and those of Allomyrina dichotoma were from mid June to late August. These activities were mainly influenced by amount and duration of rain. They were more active when there was small amount and short period of rain in a year. Distribution depth of the 3$^{rd}$ larvae of P. brevitarsis were not affected to the temperature. But A. dichotoma were sensitively react to the temperature, almost larvae were near the surface when high temperature. The distribution of P. brevitarsis was not affected by humidity, but most of A. dichotoma were near the surface when high humidity. Larvae of P. brevitarsis usually ate their dead individuals. When we supplied as food the pork, chicken, fresh mackerel, bread, apple, and pear. They took all of these food but larvae of A. dichotoma took only bread. Two species were lived in similar environment but those feeding habit was very different.
In 2019, the ash whitefly, Siphoninus phillyreae (Haliday, 1835), was firstly found on a pear tree in Jinju-si, Gyeongsangnam-do. From occurrence survey, we confirmed that S. phillyreae was occurred in seven cities, Busan, Changwon, Jinju, Gwangyang, Suncheon, Goheung, and Goseong. In addition, seven plants, such as Punica granatum, Pyrus pyrifolia, Cydonia oblonga, Prunus mume, Crataegus pinnatifida, Eriobotrya japonica, Photinia glabra, Pyracantha angustifolia, Lagerstroemia indica, and Malus prunifolia, were detected as hostplants. In this study, we present the first report of this species in Korea and describe the damage caused by S. phillyrease and its taxonomic information.
This study was conducted to determine the minimal processing characteristics as affected by the storage duration of whole Asian pears(Pyrus pyrifolia Nakai cv. Niitaka). Before and after storage for 4 months under air at 0$^{\circ}C$, whole pears were sliced, placed in unsealed plastic bags, and kept for 4 days at 10$^{\circ}C$. Storage of whole pears increased the initial levels of electrolyte leakage, total phenols and browning index and decreased the initial content of vitamin C in pear slices. Slices from stored pears maintained higher respiration rate compared with slices from non-stored pears during keeping. The increase of electrolyte leakage, browning index and microbial number and the decrease of total phenol in slices during keeping were more fast in slices from stored pears than in those from non-stored pears. These results suggest that the minimal processing characteristics of ‘Niitaka’ pears are depending upon storage duration.
To investigate Phomopsis species causing fruit decays of Japanese apricot, apple and kiwifruit, we collected diseased fruits from the fruit markets in 1995 and 1996 respectively. Phomopsis mali Roberts was identified based on cultural characteristics, morphological aspects and pathogenicity. There were no remarkable differences with respect to $\alpha$ and $\beta$ conidia, growth rates and colony characters among the isolates from Japanese apricot, apple and kiwifruit. The pathogens grew more than 70 mm on potato dextrose agar in 5 days at $25^{\circ}C$. The agar was slightly discolored by the production of a reddish purple pigment under the light at $25^{\circ}C$ and 3$0^{\circ}C$ respectively. Only $\alpha$ spores of the different isolates of P. mali were formed at 15$^{\circ}C$ and $\beta$ spores were mainly produced at 3$0^{\circ}C$, but and $\alpha$ and $\beta$ spores were produced in approximately equal numbers at 2$0^{\circ}C$ and $25^{\circ}C$. Pycnidia were a few under the dark condition but were abundant at wide range of 15~3$0^{\circ}C$ under near ultra violet illumination. Conidia were two types : $\alpha$ spores were unicellar, fusoid, hyaline and biguttulate, whereas $\beta$ sores were unicellar, acicular to filiform, straight or hooked and hyaline. An ascigerous stage was not formed in cultures or in nature. Isolates of Phomopsis mali from japanese apricot, apple and kiwifruit could infect fruits of apple, pear, apricot, Japanese apricot and kiwifruit. There were some differences in pathogenicity depending on stocks of fruit crops tested.
This study was performed to determine the effect of carotenoid-rich food consumption and smoking on the lipid peroxidation and antioxidant status in human. The subjects consisted of the health 210 middle-aged adults who visited health care center in the Inha University hospital. The blood and urine samples of the subjects were taken to analyze serum lipid profiles, plasma TBARS, total antioxidant status (TAS) and urinary 8-isoprostanes concentration. The anthropometric indices of the subjects were measured. The nutritional intake and the frequency of carotenoid-rich food consumption was determined by semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire survey. HDL-cholesterol level of the smoking subjects was significantly lower than that of the non-smoking subjects in men. In the analysis of the carotenoid-rich food consumption, the frequency of pepper and tomato consumption of the non-smoking subjects was significantly higher than that of the smoking subjects in men. In women, the Sequency of pear and peach consumption of the non-smoking subjects was significantly higher than that of the smoking subjects. HDL-cholesterol level of the high carotenoid rich food consumption group was significantly higher than that of medium and low group in women. TAS of the high carotenoid rich food consumption group was significantly higher than that of medium and low group. In conclusion, carotenoid intakes seemed to be effective to reduce lipid peroxidation and increase antioxidant status in the body. The frequency of the carotenoid-rich food consumption seemed to be lower in the smokers than in the non-smokers. However, further researches consisted of large-scaled and randomized clinical trials are required to determine whether carotenoids have any other beneficial effect in human. We investigated the effects of 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP) treatment (0, 0.5, and 1.5 ppm) for 16 hours, followed by storage at ambient temperature, on the qualities of pears (Pyrus pyrifolia c.v. "Hwasan"). Color differences, as measured using the Hunter L, a, and b values, showed the greatest decreases before storage, and 8 weeks after storage, when fruit was exposed to 1.5 ppm 1-MCP. The sensory qualities of c.v. "Hwasan" pears were good until 4 weeks of storage after treatment with 0 ppm 1-MCP, until 6 weeks when 0.5 ppm 1-MCP was employed, and until 7 weeks when 1.5 ppm 1-MCP treatment was performed. Fruit and storage quality in terms of all of hardness, sugar content, PPO activity, respiration amount, and ethylene production increased in the 8 weeks after application of 1.5 ppm 1-MCP. Consequently, it seems that 1-MCP treatment, especially at 1.5 ppm, before storage of pears at ambient temperature, effectively improves the quality of pears of c.v. "Hwasan".
