Micrometeorology Analysis of Pear Orchard with Anti-insect Nets for Non-bagged Cultivation (망 시설 유무에 따른 배 과원의 미기상 분석)

  • This study was carried out to investigate at the micrometeorology change of the orchard according to the net installation. Two weather stations were installed at the inside of the anti-insect nets(2 mm, 4 mm), one was installed at the outside(control). They were observed the temperature, humidity, wind speed and solar radiation from April to September 2018. Daily mean temperature at the experimental group was higher than control group by $0.2^{\circ}C$. Daily mean humidity at the experimental group was higher than control group by 3.5 to 4.7%. Daily mean the solar radiation at the experimental group(2 mm) was lower than control group by 50%. The wind speed was decreased from 12% to 50% of the external wind speed at 4 mm, and from 25% to 59% at 2 mm.

Relationship of Resistance to Benzimidazole Fungicides with Mutation of β-Tubulin Gene in Venturia nashicola (Benzimidazole계 살균제에 대한 배 검은별무늬병균 Venturia nashicola 의 저항성과 β-Tubulin 유전자 돌연변이와의 관계)

  • Pear scab caused by Venturia nashicola has been reported as an important disease of pear resulting in lowering the quality of pear fruits. In this study, it was conducted to investigate the relationship between resistance of V. nashicola and mutation of ${\beta}$-tubulin gene and the fungicide resistance in field isolate group in benzimidazole fungicides. Responce of V. nashicola to carbendazim could be classified into 3 groups as sensitive that does not grow at all on PDA amended with $0.16{\mu}g/ml$ of carbendazim, low resistance that could not grow in $4.0{\mu}g/ml$ medium, and high resistance that can grow even at $100{\mu}g/ml$. Thirty isolates of V. nashicola collected from 3 regions as Wonju, Naju, and Okcheon were highly resistant to carbendazim. Analysis of the nucleotide sequence of ${\beta}$-tubulin gene of V. nashicola showed that there was no difference in the nucleotide sequence between the sensitive and the low-resistant isolate, but GAG at codon 198 (glutamic acid) was replaced with GCG (alanine) in the high-resistant isolate. Among 10 isolates obtained from the Okcheon, 5 isolates showed the substitution of glycine for glutamic acid, which were resistant to carbendazim, but more sensitive to the mixture of carbendazim and diethofencarb than others. Through these results, all isolates of V. nashicola isolated in pear orchard were found to be resistant to benzimidazoles. Also, mutants E198A and E198G at ${\beta}$-tubulin were found to be important mechanisms of V. nashicola resistance against benzimidazole fungicides.

Response of Early-season Asian Pear 'Hanareum' Treated with GA4+7 to Postharvest Application of 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP) (조생종 배 '한아름'에 대한 GA4+7 및 1-methylcyclopropene(1-MCP) 처리 반응)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effect of 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP, $1.0{\mu}L{\cdot}L^{-1}$), a known ethylene action inhibitor, on fruit quality and incidence of physiological disorders during a simulated marketing period at $25^{\circ}C$ for 20 days in early-season Asian pear (Pyrus pyrifolia Nakai) 'Hanareum' that had been treated with 0, 0.5, 1.2 or 2.4% $GA_{4+7}$. Weight loss of stored fruits increased with $GA_{4+7}$ concentration, and the 1-MCP treatment slightly reduced the weight loss rates during the marketing period. Flesh firmness decreased abruptly in all 1-MCP-untreated fruits as the storage period extended to 10 d, whereas the firmness of 1-MCP-treated fruits remained high (> 30 N) during 15 days shelf-life. The effect of 1-MCP was significantly reduced when fruits were subjected to increased GA concentration. Higher soluble solids content and acidity during extended shelf-life were also apparent in 1-MCP-treated 'Hanareum' pears. The L-values (lightness) and hue angles of 1-MCP treated samples were higher than those of controls during 20 days shelf-life, but the a-value (redness) was lower in 1-MCP treated fruits. 1-MCP treatment did not decrease the level of ethylene evolution regardless of $GA_{4+7}$ concentration during shelf-life in early-season Asian pear 'Hanareum'. By contrast, 1-MCP treatment decreased the respiration rate significantly during shelf-life. The efficacy of 1-MCP was greatest in the GA-untreated fruit and was reduced as the $GA_{4+7}$ concentration increased. 1-MCP treatment influenced the severity of physiological disorders including core browning and mealiness: 1-MCP treatment completely blocked the incidence of core browning of during 15 days shelf-life, and reduced the severity of mealiness during 20 days shelf-life regardless of $GA_{4+7}$ concentration. Based on our results, we conclude that the use of $1{\mu}L{\cdot}L^{-1}$ 1-MCP can be of great benefit for maintaining quality and preventing physiological disorders in early-season pear cultivar 'Hanareum' pear, whereas its efficacy decreases with the concentration of $GA_{4+7}$ whereas its efficacy gradually decreases when the concentration of $GA_{4+7}$ paste increased.

Comparison of the Effects of Blending and Juicing on the Phytochemicals Contents and Antioxidant Capacity of Typical Korean Kernel Fruit Juices

  • Four Korean kernel fruit (apple, pear, persimmon, and mandarin orange) juices were obtained by household processing techniques (i.e., blending, juicing). Whole and flesh fractions of each fruit were extracted by a blender or a juicer and then examined for phytochemical content (i.e., organic acids, polyphenol compounds). The antioxidant capacity of each juice was determined by ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) and 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) assays. Results revealed that juices that had been prepared by blending whole fruits had stronger antioxidant activities and contained larger amounts of phenolic compounds than juices that had been prepared by juicing the flesh fraction of the fruit. However, the concentration of ascorbic acid in apple, pear, and mandarin orange juices was significantly (P<0.05) higher in juice that had been processed by juicing, rather than blending. The juices with the highest ascorbic acid (233.9 mg/serving), total polyphenols (862.3 mg gallic acid equivalents/serving), and flavonoids (295.1 mg quercetin equivalents/serving) concentrations were blended persimmon juice, blended mandarin orange juice, and juiced apple juice, respectively. These results indicate that juice extraction techniques significantly (P<0.05) influences the phytochemical levels and antioxidant capacity of fruit juices.
