A Study on Origin issues of Inter-korea trade (남북교역의 원산지문제에 관한 고찰)

  • The inter-korean trade volume has increased since 1989 and it reached 724million dollars in 2003. In a quantitative respect, it has grown 38 times last year compare to in 1989 but there are several problems in a qualitatively respect. First, take-in(import) with disguised origin raise a serious problem in the korea market. Second, products with made in DPRK will have difficulties to export in overseas markets. Last, take-out(export) of some product is also difficult because of catch-all issues etc. The purpose of this paper is raise a question in argument about inter-korea trade issues and hope to be studied by many brilliant scholars. We also need to understand about inter-korea trade issues and our special conditions which are a divided country.

The Particle Size Distribution of Korean Soils (우리 나라 토양의 입도특성)

  • In this study, a grouping of particle-size distributions(PSDs) by means of the fuzzy c-means clustering method(FCM) was presented. The classification was performed with the whole and the major soil series representing pedological origin. In case of the major soil series, PSDs were clustered as $2{\sim}4$ groups and the characteristics of clustering results were quite different between the soil series. It was found that the characteristics of PSDs at center of each class can be explained by formation process of each soil series. In case of whole soil data, PSDs were classified to 8 classes in which 4 classes were single mode and 4 classes were bimode distributions. Through this study, it is concluded that pedogenetic process is a plausible explanation for grain size distribution of soils.

  • Korean folk medicine 'Jil-Kyung-Ee' has been used to cure female disease, acute gastritis, edema, abdominal pain and pleurisy. The botanical origin of the crude drug has not been confirmed pharmocognostically. To clarify the botanical origin of 'Jil-Kyung-Ee', the morphological and anatomical characteristics of the leaves and roots of Plantago species growing in Korea, i.e. P. asiatica L., P. camtschatica Cham., P. depressa Willd., P. lanceolata L., P. major L. var. japonica (Fr. et Sav.) Miyabe were compared. As a result, it was determined that 'Jil-Kyung-Ee' was the whole plant body of Plantago asiatica and Plantago camtschatica.

  • The Korean folk medicine 'Cho Pi Na Mu' has been used orally to tuberculosis, neuralgia, acute and chronic gastritis and arthritis. In order to clarify the botanical origin this crude drug, comparative anatomical studies were made on the branches of Zanthoxylum species growing wild in Korea, i.e. Z. coreanum, Z. piperitum, Z. piperitum var. pubescens, Z. planispinum, Z. schinifolium, Z. schinifolium var. inermis, Z. schinifolium var. microphyllum. As a result, it was clarified that 'Cho Pi Na Mu' was the branch of Z. piperitum.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to inquire clinical meaning and characteristic of Eight extra meridians(奇經八脈) by researching building and progression of Eight extra meridians theory. Results : As a result of research of building and progression of Eight extra meridians(奇經八脈) theory, we can regard that the origin of Eight extra meridians was based on lower Danjeon(丹田) which was the root of Primordial energy and the origin of the Twelve meridians and collaterals(十二經脈) was based on Middle energizer which was the root of Acquired energy. On this, we could know that Eight extra meridians and the Twelve meridians and collaterals are based on Primordial energy and Acquired energy and function of Eight extra meridians and the Twelve meridians and collaterals are complement each other. So, we can say that considering the Twelve meridians and collaterals means that is valued on Acquired energy clinically, and considering Eight extra meridians means that is valued on Primordial energy in health preserving method (養生).

Test of the hybrid origin of Broussonetia × kazinoki (Moraceae) in Korea using molecular markers

  • Broussonetia × kazinoki Siebold has long been utilized as a major component in the manufacturing of Korean traditional paper, hanji, and has been suggested as a hybrid species of B. papyrifera and B. monoica. By applying three molecular markers, chloroplast (cp) ndhF-rpl32 IGS, a nuclear ribosomal internal transcribed spacer, and the TOPO6 gene, the hybrid origin of B. × kazinoki is tested. As a result, B. × kazinoki in Korea is demonstrated to be a hybrid of B. monoica × B. papyrifera, most likely formed naturally in Korea. The cp haplotypes detected provided information about the origins and genetic diversity of the maternal lineage B. monoica and paternal lineage B. papyrifera. The two nuclear markers were supplemented to each other, leading to the discovery of introgression in Broussonetia.

Status Report on All-sky Infrared Spectro-Photomeric Survey Mission, SPHEREx

  • Based upon the previous heritage in the complete development of the infrared imaging spectrometer, NISS (Near-infrared Imaging Spectrometer for Star formation history) onboard NEXTSat-1, we are participating in the NASA MIDEX mission (PI Institute: Caltech), the all-sky infrared spectro-photometric surveyor SPHEREx (Spectro-Photometer for the History of the Universe, Epoch of Reionization, and Ices Explorer). The SPHEREx will provide us the first all-sky infrared spectro-photometric data set to probe the origin of our Universe, to explore the origin and evolution of galaxies, and to explore whether planets around other stars could harbor life. After the SPEHREx have passed the PDR (Preliminary Design Review) on this September, the fabrication of flight hardware will be started soon. As an international partner, KASI takes part in the hardware development, the operation and the science for the SPHEREx. Here, we report the status of the SPHEREx project and the progress in the Korean participation.
