Background: The purpose of this study was to determine if there is a difference in activation of the rectus femoris, vastus medialis oblique, vastus lateralis, semitendinosus, and biceps femoris when performing normal free squat with standinding position and free squat with $30^{\circ}$ flexed hip joint. Methods: Electromyograph surface electrodes were placed on the rectus femoris, vastus medialis oblique, vastus lateralis, semitendinosus, and biceps femoris of 19 healthy college students. The participants performed standing bilateral squats and standing bilateral squats with $30^{\circ}$ flexed hip joint with EMG measures taken upon initiation of muscle activity as confirmed by an electronic goniometer. Participants completed one trial with the EMG time measurements on each type. Results: There was a significant difference between normal squats(standing squats) and normal squats with $30^{\circ}$ flexed hip joint. The normal squat exercise was statistically higer than normal squat exercise with $30^{\circ}$ flexed trunk except for semitendinosus and biceps femoris that shown slightly high. Conclusions: As a result of this study, there were increases of muscle activity in both ways. In particular, it may be more beneficial for knee joint stabilization to perform normal squat exercise with standing position relatively.
Purpose: This study was designed to identify the factors affecting the experience of smoking in middle school girls. A comprehensive analysis of individual and family factors was used. Method: The students in this descriptive survey on causal relations were 433 girls enrolled in middle schools selected by convenience sampling. The data were collected in November-December 2003 and logistic regression analysis was used to build a forecast model. Findings: The findings showed the following, 1) Individual factors such as grade, alcohol consumption, sexual experience and the frequency of exposure to pornographic materials, and 2) family factors such as parental living arrangement were significant factors. Conclusion and Recommendation: The experience of smoking among Korean middle school girls was associated not only with individual factors, but also with family factors, which exert a strong influence on health behavior. There is therefore a need for school-based smoking prevention programs, which deal comprehensively with these factors that influence smoking. It is recommended that a program be developed that will help to control the variables identified in this study along with follow?up study to verify the model.

Negative ion is considered as one of the forest health attributes. The overall purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of air negative ions on physiological effects. Data were collected from 12 volunteers (university students) who were randomly assigned into treatment and control groups. Subjects in treatment group were exposed to air with negative (2,001,000 ion/cc). Using pretest-posttest control group design, blood cortisol, norepinephrine, epinephrine, and cognitive function were measured. Data analysis indicated that negative ions influenced on positive effects of stress responses.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify experiences of nurses who served as preceptors in clinical education for senior student nurses in a college of medicine in Wonju city. Method: Data was collected from 20 preceptors instructing senior student nurses in 2001 using a self-completion questionnaire. To analyze data, content analysis was done using an analysis scheme developed by the investigators. Result: The analysis scheme consisted of 7 categories and 25 subcategories. 135 significant statements were analyzed and categorized. Preceptors indicated that they were role models, socialization facilitators and educators while instructing students in the clinical practicum. In performing the preceptors' role, preceptors reported that their most important change was self-enhancement, and positive experience was a constructive work atmosphere. The most important factor facilitating the preceptors' role performance was support from head nurses, and the most discouraging factor was work loads. Conclusion: This study suggests that interventions for encouragement and socialization of preceptors should be developed to promote clinical education for senior student nurses.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the clinical decision making (CDM) development process throughout the comparison between novice and expert physical therapist as well as develop a CDM model for physical therapists under the fee-for-service (FFS) and physicians' prescriptions. Methods: Purposive sampling techniques were used to select 10 clinical physical therapists paired into five groups (each pair consisted of 1 novice and 1 expert physical therapist). The coding schemes were extracted from interviews and through within- and across-case analyses, cases were summarized. The reliability of coding schemes was confirmed by checking of case summaries by the participants. Results: Novice and expert physical therapists were influenced by two themes, internalized theme and external forces or information. Novice clinicians depended more on external forces or information. Although clinicians should care patients under the FFS and physician's prescription, expert clinicians were more likely to rely on internalized knowledge. Conclusion: The findings of the present study may be used by educators or association officials enhance CDM abilities and knowledge pools of student or novices as well as develop a guide to suitable novices or students under the specific context limiting the development of their CDM.
The purpose of this study was to measure the static foot pressure distribution of children between forefoot and rearfoot, and the percentage of static pressure were measured from 1256 normal children in a primary school by the TPScan(Triple Pod Scan) systemCommercial system). The measurement were performed while standing with their comfortable state using the TPScan system. The static pressure distribution between forefoot and rearfoot was analyzed by paired t-test. The results were as follows: 1. The Pes cavus and Pes planus of students was 4.936%. 2. The Pes cavus were 42 children(3.343%) and Pes planus was 20 children(1.592%). 3. The Pes planus were seen in 42 of 1256 children with Grade I in 11 feet (26.2%), Grade II in 24(57.1%), Grade III in 6(57.1%), Grade IV in zero. 4. Pes planus and Pes cavus were significantly difference in foot pressure between forefoot and rearfoot(P<0.05). The future study needs detailed research and comparison with various variance between theses before and after correction.
Objectives: The purpose of the study was to investigate the cumulative dental caries rate of pit and fissure sealant in community public health program from 2005 to 2008 follow-up. Methods: The subjects were 4,768 students of 34 elementary schools in Gimcheon. The survey included direct oral examination and cumulative retention rate of pit and fissure sealant from 2005 to 2008. Data were analyzed using PASW statistical package version 18.0 and the level of significance was set at p<0.05. Results: The cumulative retention rate of sealant was 18%, 25%, and 33% after 1 year, 2 years, and 3 years, respectively. In addition, the cumulative retention rate of lower teeth was higher than that of upper teeth. Cumulative dental caries rate increased in sealed group and no sealed group. The cumulative dental caries rate decreased owing to tooth brushing frequency in sealed group and no sealed group. Conclusions: Regular and timely tooth brushing can maintain good oral health condition after tooth sealing. The school based oral health education can prevent loss of sealant and secondary caries.
The foot type is classified into normal, high or low arch according to either foot print or medial longitudinal arch (MLA) height. Plantar fasciitis, heel pain, Achilles tendinitis, stress fracture, metatarsalgia, knee pain, shin splint pain, and etc are common foot disorders and associate to the foot type. The purpose of this study was to evaluate several suggested bony inclination used to classified the abnormal foot and if the arch index (AI) was correlated with foot morphology. Lateral view and dorso-plantar view of radiographic images and flatbed scanner measurements obtained from 57 college students were analyzed. Results showed that AI measured in this study was higher than Caucasian Americans and European, but similar with African. The ethnic origin could influent the AI distribution. The AI provided a simple quantitative means of assessing the structure of lateral and medial longitudinal arches. The correlation coefficients of true bone height with AI could be further improved by normalized foot width rather than foot length. AI also demonstrated as a good indicator of inclination between calcaneus-fifth metatarsal (CalM5) and calcaneus-first metatarsal (CalX), it is a good means to classify the foot type.

Purpose: This study was to identify the relationship between sexual attitude, sexual identity, sexual permissiveness in girls in junior high school, Method: The participants were 587 female students in Chungnam Province. Data were collected by questionnaire surveys using convenience sampling. The instruments were the Sexual Attitude Scale by Kim (1997), the Sexual Identity Scale by Jung (1990), and the Sexual Permissiveness Scale developed by Reiss (1964). Data were analyzed by the SPSS 11.0 program. using descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation coefficients, t-test, ANOVA and Tukey's multiple comparison. Results: The relationship between sexual attitude and sexual permissiveness had a positive correlation (r=.440, p-0.000). Sexual identity was positively correlated (r=.180, p=.036; r=.222, p=.014) with both sexual attitude and sexual permissiveness, but maleness was the only positive correlation (r=.258, p=.014) with sexual permissiveness, no sexual specialization was the only characteristic that had a positive correlation (r=.188, p=.046) with sexual attitude. Conclusion: These results suggest assessment of these factors and treatment fitted to individual needs are important for correct sexual culture. There should be repeated research on various population groups. Moreover, it is considered necessary to carry out factor-related theoretical researches on several variables related to sex through multilateral literature reviews.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop and evaluate a self-management program for community dwelling patients with chronic mental illness so that they could improve their daily living skills and interpersonal relationships. Methods: A nonequivalent control group pre-post test design was used. The participants with chronic mental illness were recruited from a community mental health center. Twenty-two participants were assigned to the intervention group and 19 to the control group. The self-management was provided by 8 trained nursing students, and consisted of 8 sessions including education and practice. Each session was composed of strategies to improve self-care of community dwelling patients with chronic mental illness. Baseline and post-intervention measurements were done using a daily living skill performance scale and interpersonal relationship instrument. Results: Scores for daily living skill performance were not statistically significant, but scores for interpersonal relationship were statistically significant. Conclusion: The results of this study show that the self-management program had a positive impact on patients with chronic mental disorders. Therefore, it is suggested that the program could be used as an effective nursing intervention for patients with chronic mental disorders being cared for in community mental health centers.
