  • Objectives: We investigated whether the rate of depressive symptom is higher among family members of asthmatic patient compared to people who had no asthmatic family member. Methods: This study used data from the fourth and fifth Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2007-2012). In this cross-sectional study, 15,987 men (mean age 46.4) and 20,906 women (mean age 47.4) were included. To compare the rate of depressive symptoms in individuals who had a family member with asthma and those who did not have, we analyzed data using survey logistic regression. Results: Diagnosed depression was reported by 3.0% of the study population, by 4.2% of asthmatic patient's family member, and by 3.0% of individuals who did not have a family member with asthma. Family members of asthmatic patient increased odds of diagnosed depression compared with those who did not had an asthmatic family member (odds ratio = 1.56, p = 0.008). Conclusions: To prevent depression among family members of asthmatic patient, health education for entire family of asthmatic patient need to be considered. Also, government and policy makers should give more attention to caregivers who had a family member with asthma.

Methods: The study subjects were from the Korea youth risk behavior web-based survey (2011-2013) dataset. We identified 1,954 multicultural family adolescents and twice as many Korean family adolescents. Frequency analysis was used to assess nativity and nationality of the parents, and the chi-square test was used to compare the general characteristics and health behavior of the multicultural and Korean families. Conditional multiple logistic regression was used to compare health behavior between multicultural and Korean families. Results: Of the 5,862 multicultural and Korean family adolescents, current smoking in North Korean family adolescents was higher than Korean family adolescents (adjusted odds ratio [aOR], 2.32; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.60-3.35) after adjusting for sex, school year, perceived school record, family structure, father's education, mother's education, perceived economic status, place of residence, and survey year. A high drinking rate was significantly greater in North Korean family adolescents compared to Korean family adolescents (aOR, 2.94; 95% CI, 1.89-4.57). Odds ratios for sufficient physical activity of vigorous intensity (aOR, 1.82; 95% CI, 1.31-2.54) were significantly higher in North Korean family adolescents than in Korean family adolescents. Fast food intake (aOR, 1.96; 95% CI, 1.34-2.86) was significantly higher in North Korean family adolescents compared to Korean family adolescents. Conclusion: There were differences in health behavior between North Korean, multicultural, and Korean family adolescents. Further studies are needed to investigate the factors associated with these differences.

The survey was performed by studying 30 buildings which had won the multi-family residential project competitions, held in Paris in 2011. Since 30 buildings in the survey will be constructed in Paris in a couple of years, current trends of the elevations of the multi-family residential buildings can be extracted. Historically and also currently, in France, the multi-family housing has been studied to solve the various social problems; especially in Paris where the historical buildings and the modern and the contemporary buildings stand together in perfect harmony. The uniform elevations of the multi-family residential buildings in Korea, have been consist problems in the country. By studying the building elevations in Paris, the solutions to solve the current problems and to improve the situation, can be found. The study will be discussed in three different categories. First of all, the volume and the mass of building in the survey buildings, will be analyzed. Secondly, the openings in the facade, such as the windows and the balconies of the survey projects, will be analyzed. Finally, the materials and the colors of the facade will be discussed. By analyzing the elevations of the multi-family residential building projects, which had won the competitions, and are soon to be built in Paris, the various experiments and the attempts in building elevations, currently happening in Paris which is mostly known as a Haussmann style city, can be presumed, as well as the willingness of the city to reserve the historic buildings in the city.

  • This study attempted to develop integrated family policy. For this purpose, a delphi survey was conducted twice among 15 professionals regarding the general contents of family policy, the goals and outcomes of president Roh's administration, the direction and plan of action for future family policy. The results of this study are as follows: Firstly, the main results of president Roh's administration were the creation of the Ministry of Women and Families, and the Healthy Families Law. Nevertheless, that government had no long-term vision or action programs. Secondly, there are two aspects of family policy which one is family members based and the other is family life cycle based. Accordingly the subjects of this study insist that family policy has to cover people's whole life, all families regardless of family structure, and has to integrate the plans and programs which have been served to individuals, for example, women, child, youth, and elderly. Thirdly, the orientations of future family policy are to be toward happiness, health, equality, coexistence, harmony, growth, generosity, diversity, self-control, and a sustainable society. So the concept of the integrated family policy has to cover all aspects of the family and the diversity of family life. Therefore, the service delivery system for family policy has to converge into the Healthy Family Center.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the influence of family mealtime on the childrens' school adaptation. This study uses data from the 2012 Survey on Child Education and School Involvement of Parents by the Center for Family-School Partnership Policy Research at Seoul National University. Survey data was collected from 1500 parents with school-aged children. For the data analysis, Chi sqaure test and hierarchical linear regression analyses were conducted. The results of these analyses showed that the numbers of family meals shared averaged 4.26 times per week for breakfast and 4.33 times per week for dinner. There were significant differences in the number of family meals shared together according to school level, residence area, and parent employment status, and household income. In addition, childrens' school adaptation was significantly different depending on school level, parent gender, parent education, and parent employment status. Finally, according to the hierarchical regression analyses, the number of family meals shared significantly predicted childrens' school adaptation. The greater number of family meals shared, the stronger the childrens' school adaptation. These results indicate that family mealtime has a positive effect on childrens' school adaptation. This study suggests that family mealtime is an indicator of family strength and it needs to guarantee family shared time at least to have a dinner together. This study could provide grounds for making family policy and education policy in order to guarantee family shared time.

The preliminary and main survey questionnaires were distributed between November 12, 2001 and February 27, 2002. Three hundred five survey questionnaires were collected and analyzed. We applied the frequency, average, percentage, Pearson's correlation coefficient, Cronbach's, simple regression and multiple regression analysis by using SPSS/PC WIN. The findings were as follows. First, the mean score of the availability of life information was 3.21. Second, when the availability of life information increased, the dynamics of family system improved. Third, when the dynamics of family system worked well, the housewives experienced economic well-being.
