  • The objective of this study was to explore the role of familiarity in cross-cultural product perception and perception changes according to food systems (hot sauce and spicy-chicken) in Korean and US consumers. Free choice profiling was conducted by Korean and US consumers on four spicy-chicken samples made using four hot sauce samples. Half of the hot sauce samples were selected to be more familiar to US consumers and vice versa to Korean consumers. A previous study that investigated cross-cultural perceptions of the same four hot sauce samples in US and Korean consumers was incorporated in this study. For distinct sample differences, US and Korean consumers perceived products similarly. However, for less obvious differences, flavor familiarity seemed to affect consumers' product perceptions. In addition, product perceptions changed more dramatically according to food systems for familiar samples in each country. The findings of this study show that consumers' product perception can be affected by flavor familiarities.

  • This study aimed to develop processed foods that can be tailored to the tastes of consumers in countries to enter domestic and foreign markets utilizing fresh Korean pears, in which the consumption is decreasing. A survey was also conducted on three types of samples (pear jelly, pear rice cake, and pear muffin). As a result, both Korean and Chinese women aged in their 20s preferred pear muffins the most among the pear products evaluated. Pear jelly and rice cake were preferred by Chinese consumers because of their sweet taste (p<0.05). Pear rice cakes were preferred because of their texture (p<0.05). Pear muffins were not significant in all items except for odor/flavor and sweetness, but Korean consumers had a high preference for them and showed a significant preference for colors (p<0.05). Pear muffins were most familiar to both Korean and Chinese consumers showing a high willingness to purchase. An analysis of the preference inducement factors of consumers in each country of the three processed foods containing pears using Check-All-That-Reply (CATA) showed that the consumers of both countries preferred the 'pear odor/flavor' characteristics of pear jelly, and that pear rice cakes were preferred by Chinese consumers compared to Korean consumers. Pear muffins were preferred by Korean consumers. Overall, pear muffins are the product expected to be most suitable for female consumers in Korea and China aged in their 20s.

It seems that consumers and suppliers can obtain more accurate information rapidly and pay less for the same product/service than in traditional commerce. This study tries to investigate the difference in the cost factors perceived by consumers between traditional commerce and the Internet commerce. Empirical results show that there is no significant difference in consumers' perception of cost factors between traditional commerce and the Internet commerce. Contrary to general perception, a large number of consumers do not believe that the Internet commerce is generally more economical than traditional commerce. The factors where the consumers think Internet commerce has cost advantages are search cost and purchasing cost. However, consumers are understanding the benefits of the Internet commerce and are expecting that Internet commerce bring about economic advantages in consumer markets in the near future.

  • This study aims to understand how consumers consume by presenting the concept of 'consumption style' and the meaning of consumption for modern consumers. As modern consumers cannot lead their daily lives without engaging in consumption, their daily lives are deeply related to consumption. However, we have not been largely interested in how we manage consumption. It is a fact that marketing-oriented studies are focused on consumers for the establishment of corporate activities and strategies until now. For the analysis of the research, SPSS for Windows and AMOS were used. In order to examine the general characteristics of the investigation object, the technical statistics of frequency, percentage, average and standard deviation were obtained. To develop the research item analysis, Cronbach's ${\alpha}$, exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis and cluster analysis were conducted. Based on the meaning of consumption through the consideration of preceding studies, the consumption style was extracted with 4 economic, socio-cultural, psychological and ethical perspectives. Also, 4groups were classified according to the type of consumption style: professional consumers, practical consumers, indifferent consumers and emotional consumers.

The results of this study are summarized below: First, The style of consumers' purchase behavior can be categorized on a basis of four factors: fashioned-demonstrative consumer group focusing on fashion and demonstration effects when purchasing; rational consumer group more likely to concern price, quality, and product function; indifferent consumer group having no interest in purchasing; and fashioned-functional consumer group who values not only fashion but function. Second, the result of investigating the differences of consumers' attitudes toward environment reveals that the level of concern and awareness for environment is highest in rational consumer group, but lowest in indifferent consumer group. Also, it is higher in fashioned-functional consumer group than in fashioned-demonstrative consumer group. Lastly, the level of pro-environmental behavior in the stage of purchase, usage, and disposal is highest in rational consumer group, but lowest in indifferent consumer group. The level of pro-environmental behavior in usage stage is inactive in fashioned-demonstrative consumer group, whereas that in disposal stage is active in fashioned-functional consumer group for fashioned-demonstrative consumer group.
