The measurement of physicochemical properties of ASR incineration ash has been carried dot and the preparation of light-weight material has also been performed using ASR ash for recycling point of view as building or construction materials. For this aim, chemical composition, particle size distribution, and heavy metal leachability were examined for 2 bottom ashes and 4 fly ashes obtained from the domestic ASR incinerator. In the present work, attempt has been made to prepare the lightweight material using boiler ash as a raw material, which is prepared by forming the mixture of boiler ash, lightweisht filler and inorganic binder and followed by calcination at elevated temperature. As a result, the content of Cu in bottom ash was as high as about 3wt% so that the recovery of Cu from ash was required. The major compound of SDR #5 and Bag filter #6 was found to be $CaCl_2{\cdot}Ca(OH)_2{\cdot}H_2O\;and\;CaCl_2{\cdot}4H_2O$, respectively. It is thought that heavy metal teachability of lightweight material prepared with boiler ash was significantly decreased due to the encapsulation or stabilization of heavy metal compounds.
In most coal fired power plants, fly ashes collected from each of hoppers in the electrostatic precipitator are transported and stored in a silo. However the properties of the fly ashes collected from each of hoppers in electrostatic precipitator varies with the distance of the collection field from the boiler. The more distance hopper gets fly ash with larger specific surface area. Therefore, in electrostatic precipitator the hopper itself is expected to have the effect of classifying fly ashes. This study examines the physical, chemical and mineralogical properties of fly ash, collected from each of hoppers attached to an electrostatic precipitator in the coal fired power plant and looks into the possibility of the electrostatic precipitator being used as a classifier. Also, the study reviewed the possibility of acquiring high quality fly ash.
PURPOSES : The new waste management policy of South Korea encourages the recycling of waste materials. One material being recycled currently is tire-derived fuel (TDF) ash. TDF is composed of shredded scrap tires and is used as fuel in power plants and industrials plants, resulting in TDF ash, which has a chemical composition similar to that of the fly ash produced from coal. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the properties of an asphalt concrete mix that used TDF ash as the mineral filler. METHODS : The properties of the asphalt concrete were evaluated for different mineral filler types and contents using various measurement techniques. The fundamental physical properties of the asphalt concrete specimens such as their gradation and antistripping characteristics were measured in accordance with the KS F 3501 standard. The Marshall stability test was performed to measure the maximum load that could be supported by the specimens. The wheel tracking test was used to evaluate the rutting resistance. To investigate the moisture susceptibility of the specimens, dynamic immersion and tensile strength ratio (TSR) measurements were performed. RESULTS : The test results showed that the asphalt concrete containing TDF ash satisfied all the criteria listed in the Guide for Production and Construction of Asphalt Mixtures (Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, South Korea). In addition, TDF ash exhibited better performance than that of portland cement. The Marshall stability of the asphalt concrete with TDF ash was higher than 7500 N. Further, its dynamic stability was also higher than that listed in the guide. The results of the dynamic water immersion and the TSR showed that TDF ash shows better moisture resistance than does portland cement. CONCLUSIONS : TDF ash can be effectively recycled by being used as a mineral filler in asphalt, as it exhibits desirable physical properties. The optimal TDF ash content in asphalt concrete based on this study was determined to be 5%. In future works, the research team will compare the characteristics of asphalt concrete as function of the mineral filler types.
This study was performed to evaluate void ratio, compressive and flexural strength, and pH properties according to the admixture ratio of rice husk ash, aggregate size, and neutral treatment time of porous concrete with an admixture of rice husk ash produced as an agricultural by-product. The SEM results for cement mortar with a 5% rice husk ash admixture for the weight of cement formed more C-S-H hydrates due to the $SiO_2$ present in the applied rice husk ash. According to the results of the SEM test, the $SiO_2$ that was a major chemical element of rice husk ash generated a large amount of calcium hydroxide in the early stage of the hydration process of cement leading to the formation of ettringite. The void ratio of porous concrete with an admixture of rice husk ash decreased with increasing admixture ratio of rice husk ash. In addition, the void ratio of porous concrete with an admixture of rice husk ash decreased compared to porous concrete with no admixture of rice husk ash. The compressive and flexural strength of porous concrete with a 5% and 10% admixture ratio of rice husk ash slightly increased compared to concrete with no admixture of rice husk ash. The pH value of porous concrete rapidly decreased immediately after neutral treatment. Then, it gradually increased and decreased again after 14 days. Also, for neutral treatment, the pH value of porous concrete showed appropriate pH levels(less than 9.5) in all mixtures for planting at 28 curing days.

In this study, the strength and durability of compacted coal ash with proper mixing ratio of fly ash to bottom ash, such as 5:5 or 6:4, are examined for use of highway embankment and subgrade materials. Right after compaction, the strength of bituminous mixed coal ash is greater than that of anthracite mixed coal ash. The distinguished increase of strength with curing time is observed only in Ho-nam mixed coal ash that contains a lot of free lime, and the strength increase with curing time are not seen or little in the others. The durability in sinking test is good also in Ho-nam mixed coal ash, but satisfactory by adding 2% cement in the others. And it is seen that the effects of the strength increase with adding cement are greater in coal ash with proper mixing ratio than in fly ash or bottom ash respectly.

This study considerated reject ash, wastes of coal-fired power plants, to use mineral admixtures for cement. The pozzolan activity selected the fineness of the efficient reject ash through comparison and it compared to the fly ash that are widely used for concrete mixed material. Cement composites was prepared replacing of slag cement by fineness reject ash and fly ash, and properties of cement composites was tested by paste(setting time, fluidity, instrumental analysis) and mortar(compressive strength). Instrumental analysis results showed hydration reaction of fineness reject ash was not different from fly ash, but had more dense micro structures. Results of physical properties showed fineness reject ash shorten setting time, increased compressive strength compared by fly ash. Therefore using fineness reject ash with $6,000cm^2$/g to concrete mineral admixtures or cement composites was might be possible and could contribute to improve properties of concrete.
In this study, the possibility of the utilization of coal ash as earthwork materials is investigated. For this purpose, some laboratory experiments were carried out. The samples used in these tests are fly ash(FA), bottom ash(BA), coal ash dropped into ash pond(FA:BA=8:2), and mixed coal ash(FA:BA=5:5), which were discharged as a by-product at Yong-Yeul thermoelectric power plant, and general road filling materials. And for the deformation analysis of coal ash reclamation ground, several hyperbolic model parameters were determined by triaxial compression test. As a result of this study, coal ash has excellent engineering properties such as strength parameters comparing with general soils of the same grain size, especially in case of being used as backfill materials and reclamation materials on soft ground, and coal ash is superior to general earthwork materials in engineering properties becasuse of self hardening behaveiour, light weight property, etc.
Since the opening of the Shin-Kori #1,2 in 2005, fly ash mixed concrete has been used for NPP concrete structures under construction in Korea with the aim of preventing aging and improving durability. In this paper, the quality suitability of fly ash manufactured in Korea is assessed and the basic physical properties of fly ash mixed concrete and its durability against primary causes of aging are verified through experimental methods. Because of the internal structure filling effect from the pozzolanic reaction of fly ash and the resulting improvements in mechanical performance in such areas as strength and salt damage resistance, the durability of fly ash mixed concrete is shown to be superior. It is judged that this result can be applied in measures not only for improving the safety of NPP structures in operation in Korea but also for implementing effective structure life management should extending the life of structures be needed in the future.

This research was undertaken on the use of bottom ash as a fine aggregate in Controlled. Low-strength Material(CLSM). The mixtures contained constant fly ash. And four different level of bottom ash with fly ash contents, 25%, 50%, 75%, 100% are investigated. Mixture proportions were developed for producing CLSM at three 28-day strength levels: removal with tools (less than $7kgf/cm^{2}$), removal by mechanical means (less than $200kgf/cm^{2}$), and removal with power equipment (less than $83kgf/cm^{2}$). To obtain these strengths, cement contents of 30, 60, and $120kg/cm^{3}$ were utilized. The compressive strength properties support the concept that by-product bottom ash can be successfully used in CLSM.
