  • Introduction of new longterm care policy for elderly in Korea would change many aspects of elderly care service facilities. Especially elderly home care services like adult daycare centers will expand drastically after beginning of longterm care insurance. The purpose of this study is to estimate demand of adult daycare centers by comparing with the U.S and Japanese cases. Korean government is expecting that adult daycare centers will expand ten times within 4 years. This estimate is exceeding the facility demand estimate of the U.S. and Japan. The results of population study and expecting growth rate of adult daycare centers in Seoul indicate that more than 300 centers, 4 times of the number of existing centers, are in need based on Seoul elderly population in 2004. To supply these numbers of facilities in short period, more in depth study should be followed. Existing adult daycare facilities' in Seoul were analyzed by their building and management types. Interior spaces of adult daycare centers in Korea are similar to the U.S. and Japan in space arrangements but much smaller in size. In depth study of space programming as well as overall demand survey of adult daycare centers is urgently in need for more realistic expansion of adult daycare centers.

  • This study investigates the effects of adult attachment on parenting stress using marital conflict as a mediating variable for mothers of preschoolers. The subjects were 370 mothers who lived with at least one preschooler in Daegu or Gyeongbuk Province. The collected data were analyzed by Pearson's correlation as well as single and multiple regressions that used SPSS Win 15.0. The results were as follows: (1) The adult attachment by mothers was negatively associated with parenting stress. The adult attachment level of mothers becomes lower as the perception of parenting stress increases. (2) The adult attachment by mothers was negatively associated with marital conflict. That is, the adult attachment level of mothers becomes lower as the perception of marital conflict increases. (3) The effects of adult attachment in parenting stress by mothers was reducing explanation when controlled for the marital conflict. Adult attachment which influenced the parenting stress of mothers was partially mediated by marital conflict. The results of the study imply that to reduce the parenting stress of mothers, there is a need to improve spousal relationships, in addition, there is a need for more active support to improve conjugal relations for mothers whose adult attachment was not stable.

  • This paper describes the development of adult authentication system using numerical recognition. Nowadays, the automats are very popular and they are dealing in many item suck as coffee, soft drinks, alcoholic drinks and cigarettes, etc. Among these items, some are harmful to the minor, and so the sale of these to the minor must be prohibited. In relation to this, adult authentication system is required to be equipped to the automat which deals in items harmful to minor. According to these demands, we develop the adult authentication system. This system capture the image of a residence certificate card by the identification card-reader, and recognize its numbers and identify it as adult or minor by main computer, where numeral recognition is accomplished by using image processing methods and neural network recognizer. The characteristic test of the system is carried out, and its result reveals that the system has the error of less than 1%. Thus, It is thought that the system can be used for identifying adult in the automats.
