Variations in Sweetpotato Regenerates from Gamma-ray Irradiated Embryogenic Callus

  • Radiation induced and somaclonal variations were investigated in the regenerates from gamma irradiated and controlled embryogenic callus (EC) of sweetpotato cvs., Yulmi and White Star by morphological, RAPD and AFLP analysis. Most (approx. 90%) of the EC produced somatic embryos developed into plantlets after being transferred to the auxin-free medium. The frequency of morphological variants derived from the irradiated callus ranged from 3 to 7.8% compared to 0.1-1.1% of that derived from the non-irradiated. Morphological variants were selected from the regenerates and analyzed by RAPD and AFLP procedures. RAPD polymorphisms of Yulmi and White Star regenerates from irradiated calli were 8.8% and 6.1%, respectively. However, the polymerphisms among regenerates from the non-irradiation treatment in these two cultivars were non-detectable and 3%, respectively. AFLP polymorphisms of Yulmi and White Star regenerates from irradiated calli were 29.9% and 28.6%, respectively. while the frequencies for those form non-irradiated calli were 8.5% and 5.6%, respectively.   • This study was performed to investigate and assess the heavy metal contamination of sediment in main stream and tributaries of the Han-river in the vicinity of Seoul. Sediment were sampled at eight locations of main stream and eighteen locations of tributaries in the spring, summer, and fall in 1993. Six heavy metals of Cd, Cu, Pb, Zn, Cr, and Hg, were assessed. For an assessment of heavy metal contamination in sediment, the assessment method of Hakanson was modified to estimate for Han-river, then classification method of Muller in sediment quality was applied. For an assessment of contamination in each heavy metal, Contamination factor C$_f^i$ which was defined the ratio of concentration of i heavy metal in investigated location to background concentration of i heavy metal in uncontaminated upper area was used. The sediment quality in each heavymetal was classified as follows if C$_f^i$<1, Class I for Non contamination, if 1 < C$_f^i$ < 3, Class II for Low contamination, if 3< C$_f^i$ <6, Class III for Moderate contamination, if 6< C$_f^i$ <12, Class IV for Considerable contamination, and if C$_f^i$ > 12, Class V for High contamination.(abbreviation)

  • e-AIRS, an abbreviation of 'e-Science Aerospace Integrated Research System,' is a virtual organization supporting CFD(computational fluid dynamics) simulations, remote experimental service, and collaborative and integrative study between computation and experiment. e-AIRS works on the e-Science environment and research process is accomplished through the web portal. By the system development since 2005, a stable education system with the full support on fluid dynamics is successfully established and utilized to various fluid dynamic lectures in universities. By using e-AIRS system during a lecture, students can conduct the full CFD simulation process on the web and inspect the wind tunnel experiment via Access Grid. This kind of interactive lecture makes students to have a deeper understanding on the physics of fluid, as well as the characteristics of numerical techniques. The current paper will describe system components of e-AIRS and its utilization on education.

Le Corbusier 사브와 주택에서의 시각의 자리 - 수평창과 원경의 내면화 - (The Site of Vision in the Villa Savoye of Le Corbusier -'Fenetre en longueur' and the Internalization of a Distant View -)

  • This study on the site of vision in the Villa Savoye of Le Corbusier, concentrates on the precise analysis of the meaning of 'fenetre on longueur' in the living room. A lots of architectural theorists have regarded the Villa Savoye of Le Corbusier as a symbol of modern architecture, and his 'fenetre on longueur' as products of modern technology. But Le Corbusier who defined himself as 'homme visuel', responded keenly to the vision conditions inherent to the human finitude, Indifferent to the modern technology, Such a response would be derived from the experience of Acropolis, where 'the scheme was designed to be seen from a distance.' Generally speaking, 'fenetre en longueur', contra to 'porte-fenetre', makes one to focus on the panorama effect of the horizon, including a distant view. Entering the living room of Villa Savoye, however, we may perceive this window in two ways. Firstly this window acts as a screen to obstruct not to see outside, because of the wall above pressing down the line of view. Secondly this acts as a frame to make us see a distant view as far as eye can reach. These two ways result in the abbreviation of near view, and a sudden shift between a inferiority(derived from 'screen effect') and a distant view(from 'frame effect'). Depending on such a observation, this study can evaluate 'fenetre en longueur' internalizing of a distant view as the highest compressed scene of Le Corbusier's architectural poetics.

윤길영의 변증체계 고찰 (A Study on the system in the Theory of 'Syndrome Differentiation' from the Viewpoint of Yoon Gilyeong)

  • Objectives Syndrome differentiation and treatment (辨證論治) was one of the core theories in Korean medicine and syndrome differentiation (辨證) constitutes a branch of disease diagnosis in Korean medicine. Yoon Gil-Young, one of the modern outstanding scholar of basic medical science in Korean medicine, wrote on basic theories of Korean medicine such as physiology, pathology, formula science, etc. Hereby we will analyze and discuss his works to understand his recognition of historical changes in the syndrome differentiation. Methods We conducted researches into the two works of Yoon Gil-Young's, which are "The Clinical Formula Science of Eastern Medicine (東醫臨床方劑學)" and "The theory of Four-Constitution Medicine (四象體質醫學論)". From Yoon's academic standpoint which connects the basic medical science with the clinical medicine, we analyzed his opinion about the system in the Theory of 'Syndrome Differentiation'. Results According to Yoon's research work on the Theory of 'Syndrome Differentiation', the system of syndrome differentiation, which had its deep root in the theory of Yin and Yang (陰陽) & the theory of abbreviation of the five circuit phases (五運) and the six atomspheric influences (六氣) of the "Huangdi's Internal Classic (黃帝內經)". Conclusions Yoon Gil-Young's theory of differentiation of syndromes and treatment is widespread so much that he studied on the learning field of Traditional Korean Mediciine and ingenious as well. He explain on the main principles of differentiation of syndromes based on "Huang Di Nei Jing" and the system of differentiation of syndromes is composed of Traditional Korean Medical Physiology.

간호사 대상 한국어판 인간중심돌봄 측정도구의 타당도와 신뢰도 (Validity and Reliability of the Korean Version of Person-Centered Practice Inventory-Staff for Nurses)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the validity and reliability of the Korean version of Person-Centered Practice Inventory-Staff (PCPI-S) for nurses. Methods: The English PCPI-S was translated into Korean with forward and backward translation. Data were collected from 338 nurses at one general hospital in Korea. Construct validity was evaluated with confirmatory factor analysis, convergent validity, and discriminant validity. Known-group validity was also evaluated. Cronbach's α was used to assess the reliability. Results: The PCPI-S Korean version consisted of 51 items in three areas: prerequisites, the care environment, and person-centered process. The comparative fit index (CFI) and values of person-centered care process were improved after engagement and having sympathetic presence items were combined as one component. The construct validity of PCPI-S Korean version was verified using four-factor structures (.05 < RMSEA < .10, AGFI > .70, CFI > .70, and AIC). The convergent validity and discriminant validity of the entire PCPI-S question were verified using a two-factor structures (AVE > .50, construct reliability > .70). There was an acceptable known-group validity with a significant correlation between the PCPI-S level and the degree of person-centered care awareness and education. Internal consistency was reliable with Cronbach's α .95. Conclusion: The Korean version of PCPI-S is valid and reliable. It can be used as a standardized Korean version of person-centered care measurement tool.   • Objectives : This study was to propose how to translate journal references into english for enhancing citation index of the journals published in the Korean Oriental Medical Society. Methods : Journal reference is mainly composed of author name, title or book name, journal name such as Index Medicus or publisher name, etc. In order to find the appropriate equivalents to the above major constituents, head words extracted from all the references of Journal of Korean Oriental Medical Society published in 2002 to 2009. A plan for English translation of the journal reference was formulated and the glossary was prepared. Plan for English translation of the journal reference : 1. Author: Author name was represented as capitalized last name and two initials of first name and listed up to six. If there are more, the first three or six authors were listed with 'et al'. 2. Terminology of traditional Korean medicine: Standard korean traditional medical terminology was one of the current representative dictionary with as much as 6040 headwords, which was needed to be translated into English in order to provide substantial equivalents available for English translation of journal reference. Therefor 4361 english equivalents were to be newly adopted except for 1679 overlapped with them in WHO-IST. Source oriented translation and target oriented translation were allowed to be appropriately selected depending on the condition. In addition, principle of English translation of acupoint,medicinal Herbs, Herbal formula and classical works were proposed. 3. Basically the names of journals should be set in italics and abbreviated according to the List of journals indexed for medline (formerly Index Medicus) published by the National Library of Medicine. however, abbreviation of korean oriental medical journals were not yet established. Thus establishment of tentative korean index medicus should be considered. Conclusions : For the enhancement of journal citation index of korean traditional medical journals, it was suggested that english translation of journal reference should be one of the alternatives enhancing citation rate.

  • Objectives : We can discover 'Madohyeobyeong(馬刀挾癭)' and 'Madohyeobyeong(馬刀挾纓)' in LingShu(靈樞). But the meaning of them are not clear. Especially mean of 'Mado(馬刀)' is thoroughly confused. Someone had regarded 'Mado' as a neck region of human body, someone had regarded 'Mado' as a lump of neck region, the others had regarded that mean of 'Mado' is 'longish'. So we would like to find out clear mean of 'Maso'. Methods : We have found out examples of 'Mado' from ancient books and recent research. We have used books in the field of acupuncture, moxibustion and surgery(YangYiDaQuan(瘍醫大 全), WaiKeDaCheng(外科大成), HuangDiNeiJingLingShu(黃帝內經靈樞), ZhenJiuDaQuan(鍼灸大全), ZhenJiuDaCheng(鍼灸大成), WaiKeLiLi(外科理例), ZhenJiuWenDui(鍼灸問對), WaiKeQuanShengJi (外科 全生集), etc.). Results & Conclusions : Generally part of speech of 'Mado' is adjective. So 'Mado' plays the role of modifying shape of lump and abscess. In some cases, 'Mado' had used as abbreviation of longish shaped skin disease.

  • 올해로 한국사회경제학회(약칭 한사경)와 같은 해에 태어난 87년 체제는 역사적 종말을 고하게 되었다. 한사경 창립 30주년을 맞이하여 본 논문은 지난 10년간의 한사경 연구동향을 정리하였다. 이러한 정리는 새로운 체제 속의 한사경의 진로 모색에 일조할 것으로 기대한다. 지난 10년간 주요 연구동향은 다음과 같다. 2007년 미국의 서브프라임모기지 사태로 비롯된 글로벌 금융위기는 글로벌 경제위기로 확산되면서 경제학의 위기마저 초래하였다. 한사경은 경제학의 위기에 대처하면서 불평등의 경제학의 연구에 집중하면서 정치경제학 뿐만 아니라 다양한 접근과 방법론으로 주류경제학을 비판하였다. 그러나 지난 10년간의 보수정권 하에서 진보경제학의 전선이 퇴각하면서 진보경제학은 지식재생산의 위기를 겪으면서 주변화 되어 갔다. 새로운 체제가 들어서면서 전선의 복구 이상으로 중요한 것은 새로운 체제와 시대에 조응하는 진보경제학으로 거듭 나는 것이다. 이것은 우리나라의 유일무이한 진보경제학의 종합학회로서 한사경의 책임이기도 하다.

6시그마 DMADOV기반 아리즈와 브레인스토밍을 이용한 취부용 피스제거 시스템의 공학문제 해결에 관한연구 (A Study on Solving Engineering Problems of a Piece-removing System using 6-Sigma DMADOV Technique with ARIZ & Brainstorming)

  • This paper presents a new design algorithm for piece-removing dynamical system, based on 6-Sigma DMADOV technique using ARIZ and Brainstorming. Our design target is the piece-removing system installed on a mobile platform of bead-grinding equipment. The 6-Sigma DMADOV technique guides us design process according to 6 steps, i.e., Define - Measure - Analyze - Design - Optimize - Verify. A Design strategy to reduce the weight of piece-removing dynamical system will be explored by using ARIZ, i.e.,(the abbreviation of Algorithm for Inventive Problem Solving in Russian). The ARIZ will result in a final solution that the height and angle control parts for a cutting tool should be replaced by a kinematical approach, rather than complicated mechatronic approach(using motors). The Optimize step is composed of two sub-steps: (i) Generating process for obtaining several ideas of piece-removing system by using Brainstorming technique, satisfying the final solution derived from the Design step using ARIZ, and (ii) Optimizing process for selecting the most optimal idea of piece-removing system by using Pugh's matrix from the viewpoints of weight, cost and accuracy. The laststep of Verify has shown that the final design obtained by the 6-Sigma DMADOV technique with ARIZ & Brainstormingcan improve an initial design with design requirements satisfied. In this paper, we have shown that ARIZ and Brainstorming can be cooperatively merged into 6-Sigma DMADOV to give us both a formulatedproblem-solving approach and diverse candidate solutions(or ideas) without trial-and-error efforts.
