Analytical Study on the Temperature and Pressure Changes in DME FPSO Storage Tank with Liquid Filling level (DME FPSO 저장탱크의 액충전량에 따른 온도 및 압력변화에 대한 해석 연구)

  • As DME (Dimethyl ether) is the one of the future possible massive energy sources synthesized from natural gas, KOGAS has been doing to obtain overseas resources to meet the domestic needs. and tried to build new DME FPSO ship. This paper presents that it can help for the DME storage tank designers and storage management engineers doing proper work by understood the evaporation phenomena and pressure change of DME by thermal intake in storage tank. The experimental result shows that the evaporation rate and pressure are increased with higher liquid filling level. The proper DME liquid filling level in tank is obtained as lower than full 98% volume of tank in case of storing longer than a day, because the pressure is increased rapidly with full 98% filled level of storage tank.

  • Activated sludge sewage treatment processes are difficult to be controlled because of their complex and nonlinear behaviour, however, the control of the dissolved oxygen level in the reactors plays an important role in the operation of the facility. For this reason, this study is designed to present a system which accurately measures DO, MLSS, pH and ORP in the aeration tank to alleviate situations above and provide the automatization of a sewage treatment plant (STP) using new DO control system. The automatic control systems must be guaranteed the accuracy. Therefore, the proposed automatic DO control system in this study could be commercial applications in the aeration tanks by means of operating cost analysis and user-friendly for operation and maintenance. We could get accurate data from the lab tank which has water quality checker because there was no vortex and air bubble during the measurement process. Improvement of confidence in the lab tank enabled effective and automatic operation of sewage treatment plants so that operation costs and manpower could be saved. If this result is put in place in every sewage treatment plant nationwide for practical purposes, it is estimated to cost 18.5 million dollars in installing the lab tank and to save 9.8 million dollars in management cost a year, except for cost saved by automation.

Space Fitting Design of LNG Fuel Tank for a Small Truck and BOG Analysis of LNG Tank

  • The 36 liter LNG tank is designed to fit in the limited installation space of a small truck. Two LNG tanks allow one ton truck to run about 432 km per fueling. which is about 1.8 times longer than CNG mileage for the same truck. The variation of BOG with car acceleration for the different fuel liquid/vapor ratios in a tank is analysed by the modified Fortran program "Pro-Heatleak". Computational analyses show that the relationship between the BOG and liquid/vapor ratio is linearly proportional at a given acceleration. Fuel consumption decreases the volume of liquid fuel in the tank but increases the specific BOG. BOG increases with increasing of car acceleration when fuel liquid/vapor ratio is greater than 0.5 and decreases with increasing of car acceleration when fuel liquid/vapor ratio is less than 0.5. The difference between maximum and minimum BOG for full tank is about 12 percents. For the fuel liquid/vapor ratio equal to 0.5 BOG does not depend on car acceleration.

  • This paper relates to a technology for monitoring a liquefied gas storage tank in the special gas field where demand is increasing owing to the continuous growth of related fields such as the semiconductor, display, and ICT convergence electronics industries. We have proposed a system for real - time monitoring using wireless sensor network technology, and implemented a system consisting of a sensor unit, transmitter module, and receiver module to be attached to a liquefied gas storage tank. The system was applied to LCO2 tanks among various liquefied gas storage tanks to verify the feasibility. The storage tanks employed in the experiments has capacities of 16,179 l and was 1,920 mm in inner diameter. Furthermore, the density was 1.03 g/l. The measured data were compared with reference data on the remaining gas level versus the $CO_2$ height of the surface, expressed using a conventional water meter, provided by an existing storage tank supplier. The experimental results show that the data is similar to the standard data provided by the tank supplier, and has a high accuracy and reliability within an error range of 0.03%.

On the Prediction of Inner Pressure for the Tank in Rolling Motion (동요하는 탱크의 내부 변동압력 추정에 관한 연구)

  • The inner liquid pressure of an airtight tank in rolling motions is investigated by means of forced oscillation tests, and the simple method to estimate the inner liquid pressure is proposed. A rectangular solid tank, which is fully filled with water, was used in the forced oscillation test of rolling motion. The inner pressure variations in time were measured at several points on the inner walls of tank. Measured pressures are compared with the calculated ones, and estimation methods of the inner liquid pressure of the tank in rolling motion are studied based on the considerations of the origin of pressure.

Optimal Shape and Boil-Off Gas Generation of Fuel Tank for LNG Fueled Tugboat

  • This paper proposes the optimal shape of an LNG fuel tank with a lattice pressure vessel (LPV) design for a tugboat. The LPV is a Type C tank with a design philosophy of "design by analysis," which facilitates greater variability of shape compared with other traditional Type C tanks. Further, compared with conventional cylindrical fuel tanks, the LPV provides better volumetric efficiency. Considering the shape of a fuel tank room, a trapezoidal shape of the LPV is concluded as the most optimal design. This study performs two major analyses of the LPV: structural and heat transfer analyses. First, a design procedure of the LPV based on structural analyses is elaborated. The finite element method is used for the analyses. Furthermore, the results guarantee that the maximum stresses by applied loads do not exceed an allowable stress limitation. Second, the heat transfer analysis of the LPV is conducted. LNG boil-off gas generation is analyzed based on various insulation materials and the degree of acuum.

Nutrient Removal in an Advanced Treatment Process using BIO-CLOD (BIO-CLOD를 이용한 고도처리공정에서의 영양염류 제거)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of BIO-CLOD on advanced wastewater treatment for enhanced removal efficiency and meeting the stringent discharge water requirements of wastewater treatment plants. Methods: Two experimental apparatuses consisting of anaerobic, anoxic and aeration tanks were operated. One included a BIO-CLOD cultivation tank. Organic and nutrient parameters and removal efficiency were analyzed by pH, BOD, CODcr, SS, T-N and T-P. Results: The average removal efficiencies of BOD, COD and SS from the apparatus with BIO-CLOD tank installation were 95.5%, 88.6% and 92.9%, respectively, and these were higher than the results from the apparatus without BIO-CLOD. The average TP removal efficiency with BIO-CLOD tank marked 56.0%, higher than the 47.3% from the apparatus without one. BIO-CLOD showed a higher performance for TN removal at 49.6%, compared to the result without BIO-CLOD of 34.3% Conclusion: By reaction with BIO-CLOD, ammonia removal was effective in the aeration tank, as was phosphorus release in the anaerobic tank. Phosphorus luxury uptake and nitrification in aeration tank proceeded smoothly. The application of BIO-CLOD can improve the decrease of odor and settleability of activated sludge in a wastewater treatment plant, as well as increase the removal efficiency of organic and nutrient materials in water.

An Analytic Solution to Sloshing Natural Periods for a Prismatic Liquid Cargo Tank with Baffles (내부재가 설치된 직육면체 화물창 내의 Sloshing 고유주기 산정)

  • In the design of super tankers or LNG carriers, which transport a large amount of liquid in the cargo tanks, the structural d11mage due to liquid sloshing is an important problem. The impact pressure from sloshing is most violent when the liquid motion of a partially filled tank is in resonance with the motion of a ship. In this study, the sloshing natural periods of a baffled tank, often installed to reduce liquid motion, is analyzed. A variational method is adopted to estimate the sloshing natural periods for a prismatic cargo tank with baffles of arbitrary filling depth of liquid; the results are compared with Lloyd's Register regulations on sloshing periods. In this study, using an effective liquid-fill-depth concept, sloshing periods for a baffled tank can be expressed by the same form as rectangular prismatic tanks without baffles. In contrast to Lloyd's Register regulations, which can be applicable only to cargo tanks with constant baffle size and distribution, the present results can be applicable to cases of variable baffle size and distribution.

Experimental Study on Sloshing in Rectangular Tank with Vertical Porous Baffle (투과성 내부재가 설치된 사각형 탱크내의 슬로싱 현상에 대한 실험적 연구)

  • A variety of inner baffles are often installed to reduce liquid sloshing and prevent tank damage. In particular, a porous baffle has a distinct advantage in reducing sloshing by changing the natural periods and dissipating the wave energy in a tank. In model tests, porous baffles with five different porosities were installed vertically in a liquid tank under sway motion. The free surface elevations and pressures were measured using an image processing technique and a pressure gage for various combinations of baffle's porosity and submergence depth, and tank's amplitude and period. The experimental results were in good agreement with the analytic solutions (Cho, 2015), with the exception of a quantitative difference at resonant periods. The experimental results showed that the sloshing characteristics in a tank were closely dependent on both the porosity and submergence depth of the baffle, and the optimal porosity existed near P = 0.1275.

Tank color affects growth, feed utilization efficiency, coloration, and biochemical composition of juvenile giant trevally (Caranx ignobilis Forsskål, 1775)

  • Tank color is an important environmental factor influencing aquaculture performance, but it remains poorly understood for juvenile giant trevally (Caranx ignobilis) under laboratory conditions. This study evaluated the effects of five different tank colors (white, blue, red, yellow, and dark grey) on growth performance, survival, feed utilization efficiency, body coloration, and biochemical composition of juvenile giant trevally. In a 28-day experiment, juvenile giant trevally with an initial mean length of 1.91 ± 0.03 cm and an initial weight of 0.24 ± 0.04 g were reared in tanks with different colors at a density of 1 fish/L, and each treatment was replicated three times. Results showed that fish reared in yellow tanks had higher growth rate, higher survival, and lower feed conversion ratio compared to those reared in white and blue tanks (p < 0.05). Fish reared in yellow and red tanks had significantly darker yellow body coloration and accumulated more carotenoids than those reared in white and dark grey tanks. Additionally, fish reared in yellow and red tanks had higher body protein content, whereas fish reared in white tanks had higher body moisture content (p < 0.05). These findings indicate that tank color could be an important factor in improving the rearing performance and skin pigmentation of juvenile giant trevally. Yellow tank color is suggested as a potential strategy to optimize juvenile giant trevally seed production in aquaculture.
