  • This study identifies the factors influencing Quality of Life (QoL) in both male and female workers with diabetes mellitus and examines the differences between them. Using data from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES) for 2010-2017, 1693 workers (1082 males; 611 females), aged 19 or over, with diabetes mellitus were enrolled in the study. Data were analyzed by complex sample linear regression using SPSS/WIN 23.0. The factors influencing QoL differed between males and females. The common factors included household income, education, job, stress, disease duration, and disease complications. The additional factors in males included working style, and, in females included age, marital status, drinking habits, and the treatment and control of the disease. Males had a higher QoL than females in all the sub-factors. Patients with diabetes mellitus require gender-specific intervention and governmental and social policies that can support it must be developed.

  • In this paper, we propose a decision tree-based machine learning model that leads to food exchange table renewal by classifying food groups through machine learning for existing food and food data found by web crawling. The food exchange table is the standard for food exchange intake when composing a diet such as diet and diet, as well as patients who need nutritional management. The food exchange table, which is the standard for the composition of the diet, takes a lot of manpower and time in the process of revision through the National Health and Nutrition Survey, making it difficult to quickly reflect food changes according to new foods or trends. Since the proposed technique classifies newly added foods based on the existing food group, it is possible to organize a rapid food exchange table reflecting the trend of food. As a result of classifying food into the proposed model in the study, the accuracy of the food group in the food exchange table was 97.45%, so this food classification model is expected to be highly utilized for the composition of a diet that suits your taste in hospitals and nursing homes.

  • The vision disturbances of school- age children has been recognized as and important school health problem. As the visual disturbances of the school-age children is recognized as the nation's health problem. the importance of the development of educational program for visual health should be emphasized. Recently, eyeball movement and other visual health management method has been introduced for prevention or recovery of decrease in visual acuity. But, the effect of eyeball movement was not confirmed yet. And, the controversy around the treatment effect is continued. The decrease of visual acuity is one of the important school health problem as well as it causes discomfort in daily life of the students. So, it should be considered as an important subject for school health and there is a need to develop an effective intervention program for visual health. The purpose of this study is to develop and evaluate the program with the recognition of the need of the intervention for visual health. The visual health promotion program was developed by the researcher and the program was initiated by the school. Nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design was applied for study which examined the effect of the visual health promotion program. The subjects were 742 children (experimental group: 398; control group: 344). The experiment was composed of health education and eyeball movement. Health education was provided 5 times to the children in the class room. Children of experimental group exercised eyeball movement in the class, watching video for 10 minutes two times a day. The exercise was continued for 10 weeks. The result of the study were as follows. 1) change of visual acuity Before the intervention, mean of the visual acuity was .86 for the experimental group and .91 for control group. After the intervention, mean of visual acuity was .95 for the experimental group and. 90 for the control group. There was no significant difference in the change of visual acuity between experimental and control group. 2) change of refraction. In the experimental group, 327 eyes (41.08%) were normal vision and 469 eyes (58.98%) were eyes of refraction errors, 38.82 % of the total eyes were myopia. There was no significant change in the refraction in the children with myopia after the intervention. 3) Awareness of visual acuity, change of knowledge, behavior. and attitude (1) After the intervention, there was a significant difference in the awareness of visual acuity (experimental group: 70.10%. control group: 50.97%, p<.01). (2) After the intervention, there was a significant knowledge increase in the experimental group (pp<.01). (3) There was no significant difference in the visual health behavior after the intervention. (4) There was a significant positive change in the attitude related to visual health in the experimental group ( pp<.05). 4) There was a significant positive change in the subjective discomfort of the students. But, there was no significant change in the objective eye symptom after the intervention. Even though there was no effect in the visual acuity and the change of the refraction. subjective visual health as well as the attitude and knowledge' of the children and parents toward visual health was improved significantly. Also, there was an increase in the intention of change and the awareness for the visual health management. It is suggested that various educational strategies for visual health promotion should be developed and examined for the visual health promotion of the students.

  • Injury has now replaced disease as the biggest single cause of death in children after their first birthday. Each day child dies from preventable, unintentional injury and the medical cost of these injury is increasing remarkably. It is necessary to develope injury prevention models to explain, predict, manage, evaluate and analyze the information about accident. The purpose of this paper is, firstly, to investigate parent's actions regarding safety measures at home and secondly, to identify the influencing factors of parents' safety behaviors. The selection of such factors is guided by the theoretical framework of the Pender's Health Promotion Model. Method ; The questionnaire was developed on the basis of other investigations, through pilot testing, peer review, and review by field health workers. The questionnaire was completed by 231 mothers of young children. Data was collected between April and May 2002. Variable Use of three different domains of safety behavior, safety habits, supervision and perception of safety devices, were listed. Mothers were self reported on internal locus of control, mother & child relationships, and marital intimacy. Also the elements of the Health Promotion Model: perceived benefit, barrier, threat, and self-efficacy, were surveyed. Results & discussion The results indicate that most parents take considerable action to reduce household hazards. The constructs derived from the Model were statistically significant differences for a small part of the variables on parental behavior to reduce hazards in the home, such as age, education, economic status, self-efficacy, perceived benefit, internal locus of control. Future studies ought to include social influences, such as expectations, perceived norms, knowledge, and child-related variables, relevant to parental safety measures in their home.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effects of a web-based senescence preparation program for the provision of information and education on aging. A non-equivalent control group pretest-posttest design was used. The subjects were 70 middle-aged adults (experimental group: 36, control group: 34) living in Daegu city. The experimental group participated in a web-based senescence preparation program for 10 weeks, where 10 subjects were covered (5 physical, 3 mental/psychological, and 2 social/environmental). As compared to the control group, the knowledge of the experimental group increased significantly, and there was a significant change in their attitudes toward the elderly and old age plans. These results suggest that a web-based senescence preparation program can predict people's old age and help in their preparation. Further, this program is expected to offer individualized learning opportunities to many learners in various settings.
