This is a case report on a deep vein thrombosis(DVT) patient whose pain, numbness, and swelling in the left leg have been decreased with Korean Medicine. The 59 year-old male patient who was diagnosed with DVT and showed the classic symptoms of DVT(pain, numbness and swelling in the left leg). Although he was treated with medication(100mg of aspirin, 20mg of rivaroxaban) for five weeks, his symptoms did not improved. Then, he was gaven Sunkihwalhyul-tang three times a day and Jungsongouhyul pharmacopuncture once a day for two months. Conservative therapy including leg elevation and an elastic stocking was co-administered. During our treatment period, the size of the thrombus in the left external iliac vein was decreased according to sonography compared with the pre-hospital's sonography, and the patient felt his symptoms had improved. This case report suggests Korean Medicine may play a role in improving the deep vein thrombosis symptoms.

A patient diagnosed with Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS) suffering from numbness in the toes and fingers, paralysis in the face, and back pain received intravenous immunoglobulin on December 28, 2019. Without an improvement in symptoms the patient was admitted to a Korean medicine hospital on January 1, 2020 to receive combined Korean medicine treatment including herbal medicine (Sipjeondaebo-tanggami and Hyangbujasunkipalmul-tang), acupuncture treatment, moxibustion, cupping treatment, and physical therapy. Treatment was administered over 51 days, of which 17 days were during hospitalization. Paralysis of facial muscle, and numbness in fingers and toes were evaluated using the Yanagihara score and numeric rating scale (NRS) score, respectively. Facial paralysis improved (21 to 40 based on Yanagihara score) and paresthesia of the hands and feet disappeared (NRS score 6-7 to NRS score 0). There were no side effects or sequela. This study suggested combined Korean medicine treatment may be effective for the treatment of GBS.

The purpose of this study is to review the literature on Danggwisayeokgaohsuyusaenggang-tang. The classic literature review was carried out using "http://www.theqi.com". The journal search was performed using MEDLINE, EMBASE, National Digital Science Links(NDSL), OASIS, Korean studies Information Service system(KISS), RISS, China National Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI), Japan Science and Technology information Aggreator, Electronic(J-STAGE) from search engine's opening day to November 2013. Searching key words were the various combination of "Danggwisayeokgaohsuyusaenggang-tang", "Danggwisayeok", "Danggwi", "ohsuyu", "saenggang". The inclusion criteria was all kinds of journals except for review, essay, and experiment study. 40 classic literatures and 37 journals(1 chinese randomized controlled trial, 25 chinese case studies, 1 Korean case study, and 10 japanese case studies) were selected finally. The literatures and journals reported that Danggwisayeokgaohsuyusaenggang - tang was used to treat diverse types of diseases with coldness of hands and feet.

■ Introduction Allergy refers a hypersensitive immune response to the various environmental factors and Qi is considered as vit al energy to defend oneself from environments in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Therefore, this study was performed to assess the relationship between allergy and Qi-deficiency ■ Methods We enrolled the subjects with allergic disorders and the healthy controls without allergic disorders. We got the information on the general characteristics, and the score of Qi-deficiency from all of the subjects, and measured their total Immunoglobulin E(IgE) level. ■ Results There were one hundred forty three subjects with allergic disorders and 211 of the control. The educational level, total IgE, and the scores of the Qi-deficiency were higher in the allergy group than in the control. ■ Conclusion Allergic subjects tend to have more severe Qi-deficiency. This could suggest the clinical effectiveness of some herbal medicines for Qi-deficiency on allergic disorders.

The purpose of this paper is to explore the strategy of future Korean medicine(KM) clinical research through the study on the current situation and issues for KM clinical research worldwide. In this study, the papers published in English through Pubmed were investigated mainly. And we analyzed the methodological issues from the clinical research reports in the KM fields. As a result of examining the current situation of the RCTs(Randomized Controlled Trials) studies in KM, the sample size for most studies was small and the overall methodological quality appeared to be low. And there was a discussion about whether or not to apply RCTs method to the KM clinical research. The majority of studies have argued the use of RCTs method for KM clinical research. In addition, we could find some problems through the analysis of KM clinical studies. First, the majority of RCTs in KM were of low quality. Second, RCTs method was applied to the KM clinical studies according to the Western medicine methods only. Third, the actual KM diagnosis was not used in the KM studies and inadequate outcomes measurement methods were utilized without considering the characteristics of KM practice. The methodological issues in the KM clinical research were caused by the conflict between the characteristics of KM practice and clinical research method based on the western medicine.
