  • Construction equipment cost is critical to estimate the total construction costs, particularly in large and complicated projects. Despite its importance, the construction equipment cost may not reflect the current market value since the equipment database is being updated every 6 years at most. To keep construction equipment cost up to date, it is highly recommended to use the standard market price that is reported each year by the Ministry of Security and Public Administration (MOSPA). However, there is still a gap to adopt the standard market price system for the construction equipment cost computing system. Therefore, this paper suggests an effective way to develop a construction equipment cost estimation system.

  • In recent decades, many countries have introduced competition in the electricity industry. Now, unit commitment becomes not a problem to be solved by a monopoly company but the one to be tackled by each generation company(GENCO). Its aim has been altered from the global cost minimization to the each GENCO's profit maximization. In this paper, the author proposes the scheme of unit commitment of a GENCO to maximize profit considering the uncertainty of market clearing price. The type of the assumed market is a uniform price market. A genetic algorithm is used for the maximization of the profit.

  • This paper studies urban growth in Korean cities. First, I document that population growth patterns change over time and that the current population distribution supports random urban growth. I confirm two empirical laws-Zipf's law and Gibrat's law-both of which hold in the period of 1995-2015, but do not hold in the earlier period of 1975-1995. Second, I find a systematic employment growth pattern of Korean cities in spite of the random population growth. I examine market access effects on employment growth. Market access, a geographical advantage, has a significant influence on urban employment growth. The market access effect is higher in the Seoul metropolitan area than in the rest of the country. This effect is stronger on employment growth in the manufacturing industry compared to employment growth in the service industry. These results are robust with various checks (e.g., different definitions of urban areas). The results here suggest that policymakers should consider geographical characteristics when they make policy decisions with respect to regional development.

  • This paper shows that we can make simple modifications to an existing optimal power flow(OPF) algorithm that minimizes generation costs in order to solve the maximization of social welfare objective of the OPF in a competitive electric power market. We have illustrated the potential for the use of OPF in light of the marked impacts on nodal prices and generation/demand allocation levels among competing suppliers. This paper can provide all market players with the transparent information that ensures sufficient control over producers and consumers in case of economic of secure operation with transmission line outage while maximizing the sum of participants social benefit of participating in the electricity energy market.

  • The purpose of this study was to segment the consumer market for women's street clothes based on benefit sought. The sample was taken from 1106 middle class women who were in their 30's-40's living in Gwangju city. Consumers were classified into three groups by honest sought. The groups were practical benefit seeking group(36.7%), multi-benefit seeking group(32.6%) and symbolic/aesthetic benefit seeking group(30.7%). ANOVA, $\chi$$^2$-test revealed differences among groups according to benefit sought, use of information sources, purchasing behavior variables and demographic variables As a result of comparison for two market segmentations, benefit segmentation was proven to be more useful than segmentations using clothes image preference. But there were differences in psychological variables and demographic variables among the same benefit segments. Therefore hybrid approach on segmentation using clothes images preferences and benefit sought is neccesary.

  • The introduction of competition in the generation of electricity has raised the fundamental question of whether markets provide the right incentives for the provision of the capacity needed to maintain system reliability. Capacity mechanisms are adopted around the world to guarantee appropriate level of investment in electricity generation capacity. In this study, we discuss these approaches and analyze the capacity pricing mechanisms from the adequacy perspective. We conclude that the design of capacity mechanism is very important to decrease electricity spot price and increase total electric capacity. Specifically, the constant of capacity pricing mechanism made a difference to the performance of electricity market. However, the slope of capacity price mechanism is better than the constant of that in improving performance of electricity market.

  • In order to reduce costs of electricity energy at periods of peak demand, there has been an exponential interest in Demand Response (DR). This paper discusses the effect on the participants' behavior in response to DR. Under the assumption of perfect competition, the equilibrium point of the electricity market with DR is derived by modeling a DR curve, which is suitable for microeconomic analysis. Cournot model is used to analyze the electricity market of imperfect competition that includes strategic behavior of the generation companies. Strategic behavior with DR makes it harder to compute equilibrium point due to the non-differential function of payoff distribution. This paper presents a solution method for achieving the equilibrium point using the best response function of the strategic players. The effect of DR on the electricity market is illustrated using a test system.

  • The recent financial crises cause the co-movement and transmit the risk across different markets and assets. It is well known that market fear affects the quality of credit in the financial markets. In this context, this study examines the co-movement between the volatility index (VIX) of the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE), or VIX, and six emerging countries' credit default swaps (CDSs), by implementing wavelet coherence. Our research aims at revealing whether the VIX can be used to hedge against the bubble behavior of the CDS market in different investment holding periods (short-run, medium-run, and long-run), as well as whether either market can be used to manage and hedge overall market downside risks. The wavelet coherence results show a high degree of co-movement between the VIX and CDS during the 2007-2009 global financial crisis, across the 16-64 weeks' frequency band. In addition, we observe that the positive correlation between the VIX and the CDS markets, implying that the market turmoil intensifies the co-movement between the VIX and CDS markets.

  • Although previous studies have made significant progress in adaptive selling behavior (ASB), few studies have considered salesperson's customer orientation (CO) and learning behavior as determinants of effective sales management (ASB and relationship-making efforts), despite the discussion of important roles of these constructs. The authors test not only the relationships of salesperson's CO and market-based learning behavior to ASB and relationship-making efforts, but also the effects of ASB on relationship-making efforts and performance. The results of the study, which is done with samples of salespeople from Korean companies, indicate that salesperson's CO and market-based learning behavior are identified as significant determinants of ASB. Moreover, both salesperson's ASB and relationship-making efforts have significant effects on sales performance. On the other hand, as per salesperson's relationship-making efforts, salesperson's CO has a positive effect, but salesperson's market-based learning behavior and ASB do not influence his or her relationship-making efforts, which suggest a provocative possibility of conceptualization regarding the relationship between ASB and relationship management efforts.

  • The emergence of the luxury market has led numerous academic researchers, as well as marketers in the luxury market, to pay attention to both identifying luxury brand features and measuring perceptions toward luxury brands. Especially, Korea is a significant emerging market for luxury goods. Young consumers and male consumers are getting into the luxury market fast and these new segments will keep increasing. There are only a few studies related to distinctive definitions of luxury brands and measurement development for the Korean market. However, there are some limitations in these previous studies in that they did not capture the nature of luxury due to their inappropriate of subjects and approach in data collection and to lack of a perspective of Korean specific features. Thus, the purpose of this research is to identify Korean consumers' perceptions toward luxury products and, ultimately, to develop a reliable and valid measurement items for the luxury products' features for the Korean market. Defining the three high constructs(functional, emotional, and symbolic aspects) as a key needs and benefits on luxury brands, we looked at four stages of development for generating and deducting items by luxury industry experts and luxury consumers, as well as for testing measures by 20th~60th consumers. As a result, this study confirmed that luxury brands consists of high quality, high price, unique design, and luxury store; the emotional aspect construct combines craftsmanship, VIP service, and high social status; and the symbolic construct includes brand heritage and being a well-known brand. Finally, 22 measurement items (Measures of Luxury Brand for Korea: LBK) were developed for the conceptual features for luxury brands from a Korean perspective. This study provided understanding of Korean consumers' perceptions toward luxury brands from an academic perspective. For the managerial implication of this study, LBK can be utilized to judge both luxury brands and mass brands, to diagnose current a brand's luxuriousness, from the customer's point-of-view, and, finally, to measure a Key Performance Index (KPI) of luxury brand companies.
