  • The aim of this article is to critically explore the history, methods, characteristics and cause mechanism of Korean farmers' movement who resisted to market globalization from the perspective of social movement theory. I believe that the most influential elements of Korean farmers' movement are three structural elements; namely resentment, political opportunity structure, and media and discourse. Therefore, focusing on the three elements, I analyze the emergence and expansion of the Korean farmers' movement against market globalization from 1993 to 2008. And I analyze the roles of these three structural elements which played in farmers' social movement in South Korea. Particularly, this article analyses in perspective of market globalization and government trust crisis about the basic reason why Korean farmers' movement was so fierce in process of agricultural market globalization.

  • The Act on Distribution and Price Stabilization of Agricultural and Fisheries Product, which specifies rules and regulations on the trading system of fishery products wholesales markets, has been revised several times, mainly in order to improve the trading system. However, there is still a huge gap between the reality and law when it comes to the trading system of the fishery products wholesale market. This study aims to analyze the problems of the trading system of the fishery products wholesale market and to suggest ways to make improvement. The main problem facing the trading system of the fishery products wholesale market is sales on consignment by intermediate wholesalers, and this paper suggests two alternatives to solve the problem. First, intermediate wholesaler can be converted to market wholesalers, but it also entails other problems. The market wholesaler system has never been successfully adopted in the agricultural and fishery products wholesale market, and it is not clear which system is better between the wholesale market corporation and the market wholesaler system. Second, sales on consignment by intermediate wholesalers can be adopted with a positive view toward it. Negotiation transaction can be carried out for sales on consignment as a transaction method under the current Act on Distribution and Price Stabilization of Agricultural and Fisheries Products. However, since the act cannot provide a solution for listing, it is necessary to introduce Japan's negotiated transaction in advance system as a negotiation transaction method.

  • The purpose of this study is to estimate consumer preferences on hybrid cars and electric cars by employing a choice experiment reflecting the various market conditions, such as different projected market shares of green vehicles and $CO_2$ emission regulations. Depending on different market scenarios, we examine as to which attribute and individual characteristic affect the preferences of potential consumers on green vehicles and further, forecast the potential market shares of green cars. The primary results, estimated by a conditional logit and panel probit models, indicate that sales price, fuel cost, maximum speed, emission of air pollutants, fuel economy, and distance between fuel stations can significantly affect consumer's choice of environment-friendly cars. The second finding is that the unique features of electric cars might better appeal to consumers as the market conditions for electric cars are improved. Third, education, age, and gender can significantly affect individual preferences. Finally, as the market conditions become more favorable toward green cars, the forecasted market shares of hybrid and electric vehicles will increase up to 67% and 14%.

  • Though the issue on the integration of maritime transport market in Northeast Asia has a long history, there has never been any notable progress. Especially the lack of country-wise analysis on the barriers of market integration appears as a serious problem for more concrete discussion and the design of the roadmap for market integration. This study analyzes the maritime market of each country in the aspect of infrastructure provision, the development of the industry, change of institutions, and network connectivity and compare the competitiveness of 3 countries in the Northeast maritime market. Furthermore this study analyzes the barriers for market integration on the basis of bilateral relation, i.e. Korea-Japan, Korea-China and Japan-Korea. Based on these analyses, this study finds out the fact that the most serious barrier for market integration among 3 countries is the egocentric policies for the protection of industries in each country rather than any other institutional or physical barriers. In conclusion, this study argues that 3 countries should try to find out a third policy alternative which can make 3 countries enjoy the win-win game, such as route integration among 3 countries and joint venture for the liners operated in the region.

  • Innumerable microgrids would be operated independently by individual operators in a future smart grid. This kind of decentralized power system requires entirely different operation scheme in the actual power system and electricity market operation. Especially, frequency regulation is very important for successive energy trade in this multi-microgrid circumstance. This paper presents an optimal energy and reserve market participation strategy and operation strategy of energy storage system (ESS) by a microgrid operator (MGO). For definite evaluation of the proposed strategy, we postulate that the MGO should participate in the Power Exchange for Frequency Control (PXFC) market, which was devised by Maria Ilic and her coworkers and is suitable to the decentralized operation circumstances. In particular, optimal reserve capacity of the frequency control market and optimal market participation ratio of ESS between frequency control market and energy market are derived theoretically and evaluated by simulations utilizing Nordic Pool Elspot price data.

  • According to the Korea Ministry of Transportation report in 2015, domestic used car trade (3.66million) is twice the number of new car sales (1.84million). However, contrary to the quantitative growth of the used car trading volume, chaotic used-car market practice has not been improved and also, space that holds these markets (facilities) has remained at a very low level of quality. Lemon Market, asymmetry of information, false bait, tout, dual contracts, negative words that qualify the used car market information are still in place. The aim of this study was to understand the unique circumstances of the used car sales market distinguished from new cars, and to analyse the problems of recent domestic used car market facilities and afterwards to draw guidelines for new used car facility architecture. Through literature review, surveys, the characteristics of domestic used car market have been organised and field research and competitive analysis of the Korea used car market architecture is followed. As a result, empirical guideline for Korea used-car market facility is introduced.

  • This study analyzes the role of market actors in the energy transition process and the interaction between them and ordinary citizens, primarily focusing on the mini-PV project in Seoul. The study also proposes measures to harness market actors' activities and successfully implement the distribution of mini-PV systems in Seoul. In this study, practice theory is used as a theoretical resource to analyze the interaction between market actors and civil society actors and to help understand how market actors influence the decisions of regular citizens in installing mini-PV at their properties. After conducting surveys and hosting in-depth interviews with ordinary citizens and market actors, it was found that to further promote the role of market actors, the Seoul Metropolitan Government should actively support and monitor the public relations activities of market actors, while concurrently managing selected companies and establishing relevant administrative systems for continued effective use post-installation of mini-PV systems. In future studies of the energy transition process, market actors should also be recognized as key players, along with government and civil society actors, and their roles should be studied in a balanced way.
