A Way of Teaching Listening Comprehension through Tasks and Activities

  • Listening comprehension is an integrative and creative process of interaction through which listeners receive speakers' production of linguistic or non-linguistic knowledge. Improving listening comprehension requires continual attentiveness and interest. .Listening skill can be extended systematically only when students are frequently exposed to a wide range of listening materials with an affective, cultural, social, and psycholinguistic approach. Therefore, teachers should help students learn how to comprehend intactly the overall meaning of intended messages. Practical classroom teaching necessitates a systematic procedure in which students should take part in meaningful tasks and activities. This study purposes to investigate the effects of task-based listening comprehension instruction on improvement of EFL learners' listening comprehension and their attitude and interest. 74 freshmen who enrolled in College English conversation classes in Kongju National University participated in this study. The participants were administered listening comprehension tests and questionnaires. The results show that the listening comprehension instruction through tasks and activities has a positive impact on EFL learners' improvement of listening comprehension and their attitude and interest toward the target language as well.

모더니즘조경의 설계 특성에 관한 연구 -신고전주의 이후 나타난 정원설계를 중심으로- (On the Design Characteristics of Modern Landscape Architecture -With the Trends of Garden Design after Neo-Classicism-)

  • This paper is to define what characteristics of modern landscape architecture are in terms of garden design. It is important to understand the characteristics of modern landscape architecture, not only for practical design works but also for design ideology. The characteristics were investigated by anlayzing several crucial drawings of modern landscape architects from the later ninteenth century to the early twentieth century. It is found that modern landscape architecture had been evolved after Neo-classicism in its design language, use of materials and principles. And modern landscape architecture was formulating its own design language not only by borrowing the language from other design fields, such as modern architecture but also by making own vocabulary itself the characteristics of modern landscape architecture were defined as collapse of genre, organic structure, pictorial composition, change of living thing, including those of modern architecture. Modern landscape architects drew their humanistic image on "the garden palette" which pursued artistic sense of creation.

일서일록(日書日錄)에 있어서 표목(標目)의 표기(表記) 방법(方法)에 관한 문제(問題)와 대책(對策) (The Problems and countermasure about entry of headings in Japanese book cataloging)

  • It was analysed and considered about entry methods of headings in Japanese book cataloging which using methods of major universities and public libraries in our nation at present. I was suggested and clarified one's position that authors heading must make an entry to our pronunciation after translating from sound of chines letters, title headings must make an entry translation from Japanese title or Chinese title, to Korean. On the cataloging of authors heading or title heading, if cataloging make an entry to Japanese pronunciation it have many faults as follow. (1) In the title and authors heading of Japanese books, if it make an entry as Kana letter, not only non skilled librarian at Japanese language will have many faults but also non skilled users to Japanese language or pronunciation will very difficult to reference in title and authors catalog card. (2) If it Romanize the catalog card of title and authors heading in the Japanese books, librarian of the catalog part will make efforts and take pains to the catalog work. In addition, catalog users which is skilled in Japanese language but can not understand or unknown to the Romanized entry, and which if not understand to the, methods of entry will very difficult to card investigation or can not refer to catalog card. (3) If it make an entry to Korean in the authors and title heading from Japanese sound or pronunciation, librairans and library users which is unskilful as Japanese language will be inconvenience to works and investigation of library materials.

  • 이 연구는 내용 중심 한국어 교육을 위해 학술어휘를 어떻게 교육할 것인지에 대한 방안으로 온라인 학술어휘 사전을 개발할 것을 제안한다. 학문 목적 한국어 학습자가 대학 수학 과정에서 접하게 되는 내용 중심 한국어 교육을 위한 학술적 텍스트에는 다양한 학술어휘가 존재한다. 학술어휘를 모르고서는 학문적 내용을 이해하거나 생산할 수 없다. 따라서 그들이 처한 교육적 환경을 고려하여 그들에게 가장 적합한 방식으로 학술어휘를 교육해 교육적 효율성을 높이는 것이 한국어 교육의 과제 중 하나가 되었다. 이에 대한 대안으로 본고는 온라인 학술어휘 사전 개발에 앞서 온라인 학술어휘 사전에는 어떠한 내용이 어떠한 방식으로 담겨야 하는지에 대한 기초 연구를 수행하고자 한다. 온라인 학술어휘 사전은 교실 안으로 한정되어 있던 교육을 교실 안팎으로 자연스럽게 연결하게 해 교육 현장이 갖는 어휘 교육의 한계를 극복하고 교육적 효과를 극대화할 수 있다.

한국어 학습자를 위한 드라마 <도깨비> 속 관용표현 교육 방안 연구 (A Study Regarding Education Method on Idiomatic Expressions Appearing in the Korean Drama for Learners of Korean Language)

  • 이 연구는 일상생활에서 쉽게 접할 수 있는 드라마를 한국어 교육에 활용하여 한국어 관용표현의 효율적 교수·학습 방향을 제시하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 한국어 학습자들의 흥미와 교육적 효과를 높이기 위해서 한국에서 인기리에 방영된 드라마 <도깨비>를 교육 자료로 활용하였다. 관용표현은 한국의 역사와 문화, 사회적 배경을 통해 형성되어 사용하고 있기 때문에 한국의 문화와 정서가 담겨있는 드라마는 관용표현의 교수·학습에 적합한 자료라고 할 수 있다. 한국어 교육용 관용표현을 선정하기 위해 드라마 <도깨비>를 분석하여 실제 발화된 어휘를 바탕으로 드라마 내에서 277개의 유의미한 어휘를 추출하였다. 그중 중복 표현된 어휘를 제외하고 기준으로 124개의 관용표현을 분류하였다. 이렇게 분류한 관용표현은 사용 빈도 2회 이상의 어휘를 기본으로 하여 학습자 수준에 맞는 교육용 관용표현 선정을 위해 어휘의 난이도를 고려하여 최종 한국어 교육용 관용표현 46개를 선정하였다. 마지막으로 드라마 <도깨비>에서 선정한 자료를 교육적으로 활용할 때 교수·학습의 유의사항과 초급, 중급, 고급 등급별 관용표현의 교육 방향을 제시하였다.

한국어 표현능력 향상을 위한 교육연극 기법 (Educational Drama Skills to Improve the Expressive Ability of Korean Language)

  • 초창기 한국어 교육이 문법 이해를 중요시했다면 현재 한국어 교육은 원활한 의사소통능력의 향상을 중요시하고 있다. 그래서 의사소통 능력을 향상시킬 효과적인 방법의 하나로 교육을 위한 교육연극에 관심이 높다. 교육연극은 실제로 대화할 수 있는 기회를 주기 위해 가상적 상황을 만들어 상황에 맞는 단어와 문법을 사용해 볼 수 있으며, 몸짓, 표정 같은 비언어적 표현도 배울 수 있어 실생활에서 자신감 있게 자신의 의사를 표현하는 능력을 기를 수 있는데, 이는 한국어 교육이 추구하는 의사소통 능력의 향상과 같은 목표를 가지고 있다고 할 수 있다. 또한 학습자가 중심이 되어 활동이 이루어지고, 다른 학습자들과의 협동을 통해 문제를 해결하면서 사회성과 자신감도 기를 수 있다. 본고에서 교육연극 기법 중 인터뷰하기, 텍스트를 대본으로 바꾸기, 이어질 글을 상상해 대본으로 바꾸기, 역할극, 토론을 활용한 활동에 대해 알아보았다. 이러한 활동들이 성공하기 위해서는 좋은 동영상이나 학습 자료들을 개발하여 적극적으로 활용할 수 있도록 해야 하고, 교사를 위한 연수프로그램을 만들어 연수프로그램에서 배운 교육연극 기법들을 수업 시간에 활용할 수 있는 교수 능력을 키우도록 도와야 할 것이다.

  • This thesis is to measure visual mass sense in the language of visual expressing architecture designs. Also, this analyzes materials which effect visual design composition theory, forms, and those that act as important factors of architecture style history. Second chapter considers visual mass, then analyzes concepts of sense of visual mass and the way they are expressed in architecture. Third chapter investigates materials that are composition factors of architecture design and classifies materials that express sense of visual mass. Fourth chapter various projects are analyzed as examples. Also analyze and arrange materials which express sense of visual mass. This thesis studies materials expressing sense of visual mass and proposes possibility to approach theoretically the materials that participate in creativity of architecture design.

EFL College Students' Learning Experiences during Film-based Reading Class: Focused on the Analysis of Students' Reflective Journals

  • In the age of information, newly produced knowledge is mostly written in English. Therefore, there has been a strong demand for English language learning in the EFL context. However, most EFL learners possess a lack of interest and motivation in the text-based reading class. In this educational context, film is one of the most widely used materials in English reading classes considering that modern learners are predominantly familiar with various audiovisual materials. The purpose of this study is to investigate how Korean EFL learners experienced in the film-based reading class. Specifically, this study aims to analyze the EFL students' perceptions about the class and learning strategies that they used during the class. In order to comprehensively interpret the EFL learners' experiences in the classroom, a coding system consisting of five categories was developed: report, emotion, reflection, evaluation, future plans. The results of data analysis showed that the use of movies in English reading classes had positive effects on reading comprehension and inference of word meaning. The most frequently used learning strategies were affective strategies which helped them control their emotion, attitude, motivations and values, whereas memorization strategies were rarely used. In this respect, this study suggests that the use of movies in the EFL reading classroom encourage students' attention and help them obtain and activate schema which is useful in gaining a better understanding of text-based reading materials.

Evaluation of Car Seat Using Reliable and Valid Vehicle Seat Discomfort Survey

  • Subjective evaluation has always been regarded as a branch of social science research. Hence, in scientific and especially engineering points of view, its development is always taken for granted despite the importance of its effects on the design and development decisions. In the past, at least two automotive seat survey questionnaires have been developed with high statistical validity and reliability. Nonetheless, both were not local while subjective perception very much depends on demographic background factors. It is felt that since vehicle seat comfort is an important aspect in a seat design, a local sense should be put into the survey that is used as the subjective tool. The proposed vehicle seat discomfort survey questionnaire was developed in dual languages; English and Malay. Malay language is the national language of Malaysia, where the survey was tested. Beside inputs from literatures, key informant interviews helped in establishing the appropriate terms used as survey items. Three experimental runs on two different seats by 22 paid subjects showed that the developed questionnaire is reliable and valid. Furthermore, criterion validity analysis on the survey and previously developed survey showed significant correlation at 0.01 significance level.

조경에서의 물성 발현에 관한 연구 - 물성의 개념과 조경설계매체로서 물성의 의의를 중심으로 - (A Study on the Revelation of Materiality in Landscape Architecture - Focusing on the Concept of Materiality and the Significance of Materiality as Landscape Design Media -)

  • This study describes the recognition and the application of materials corresponding to the formative language of landscape design as the formative process of creating connote forms and meanings in a space. The purpose of this study is to propose the significance of materiality not only for conveying the meaning of landscape but also for providing expanded experience through synesthetic perception. The study consists of two parts: (1) The concept of materiality in landscape architecture is studied in three categories, which are divided in chronological order when the recognition of materials was changed. (2) Based on this exploration of the concept of materiality and the ways of expressing it that have developed from landscape arts to landscape architecture, the significance of materiality as the medium of contemporary landscape design is proposed. Breaking from previous technical and engineering approaches to materials and from a vision-centered recognition of materials, this study focuses on aesthetic and semantic aspects of materiality and is based on multidimensional recognition though synesthesia. Materiality has significance not only as the dynamic medium that carries the meaning of landscape by providing connections with the surrounding environmental context, but also as the engagement medium that expands observers' experiences with the environment through synesthesia. The study of materiality as the medium of landscape design would contribute to expanding the scope of the language of landscape design and to expressing the meaning of landscape through materiality being revealed on the basis of converted recognition of materials.
