Objectives : The purpose of this study is to investigate interaction and safety in administering herb-medicine with warfarin. Methods : For this study, we selected 19 patients who have been taking warfarin, from the ones that have been transferred from western hospital to oriental hospital. During their stay in the oriental hospital, we gave herb-medicine in addition to warfarin. Then we gathered informations and data on sex, age, main indications, and International Normalized Ratio(INR) values of selected patients through Electronic Medical Records(EMR) of Dong-Guk university hospital. Accordingly, we compiled all of the above data for a period of 10 days prior and 10 days post admission(western hospital period and oriental hospital period, respectively). Results and Conclusions : The statistical analysis of the data have revealed that there was no significant change of INR values after giving herb-medicine with warfarin(p=0.586). The result shows that administration of herb-medicine with warfarin is safe and has little drug interaction. However, this study was carried out on small sample size and the interaction with other drugs and various kinds of herb-medicine was not considered. Although we attained a restrictive result from this study, we are able to suggest the safety about co-administration of herb-medicine and warfarin.

The purpose of this study is to present elementary data for space programming of pharmacy department in Korean Herb Medicine Hospital. The space composition of pharmacy department have been changed according to pharmaceutical service. In conclusion, the necessary spaces consist of medicine window, dispensary, herb medicine storeroom and decoction room. The selectable spaces consist of laboratory, processing room, manufacturing room and amenities for employees. This study suggest 2 types of space composition model according to total floor area and building scope. The location and area of pharmacy department change by means of change and growth of Korean Herb Medicine Hospital.

This patient has been acute hepatic injured three times(2005.11.14-11.30, 2006.2.25-3.8, 2006.3.21-4.10) while he hadn't taken herb medicine or anything special. During these periods, his liver function tests showed a sharp elevation of AST, ALT and ALP level. The 1st period by western medication and herb medicine mixed and the 2nd, the 3rd by herb medicine only, he'd been treated. Each of it got significant results in short haul. It maybe means that herb medicine is not dangerous even for the acute hepatic injured person, moreover it can be more effective in comparison with western treatment.

Objective : Many methods have been used for treatment of facial nerve paralysis. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical difference between acupuncture therapy and acupuncture-oriental herb medicine therapy. Materials and Methods : From 05-01-2000 to 01-30-2001, 46 facial paralysis patients who were hospitalzed and treated more than five times at the Department of Acupuncture & Moxibustion of Dongguk University Bundang Oriental Medical Hospital were selected for two group. One group(A group) was treated by acupuncture therapy, the other group(B group) was treated by acupuncture and oriental herb medicine therapy. A group was composed of 15 patients and B group was 31 patients. Results and Conclusion : As the results of study, both acupuncture therapy and acupunture-oriental herb medicine therapy were usable for facial nerve paralysis treatment. But, we could not discover any available difference between acupuncture therapy group and acupuncture-oriental herb medicine therapy group.

Objectives : This study was designed to evaluate the effects of oriental herb medicine therapy on a limited stage small ell lung cancer(SCLS) patient. Methods : The medical record of this case of SCLS was researched. The patient had been treated with oriental herb medicine for five months continuously in OPD. Clinical data was analyzed and the mass of small cell lung cancer before and after oriental herb medicine therapy was compared using X-ray and CT scan of the whole body in order to determine metastasis. Result : After 5 months of oriental herb medical treatment, most of symptoms disappeared or improved. The small cell lung cancer patially receeded and improvements were mainly seen in sputum, coughing, insomnia, diarrhea, and performance status. Conclusion : The study suggests that oriental herb medicine therapy effects the tumor size by causing remission and Improving health and relieving symptoms, and also positively effects the quality of life as a supportive or curative therapy for SCLC patients.

1. Purpose : Clinically I have studied efficacy of herb treatment and development of herb growth palpation about handicapped children for growth. 2. Methods : 165 patients who visited hospital from January, 2000 to January 2001 3. Results : Average growth of children who visited hospital was less than 4cm but boys have grown 9.8cm/year and girls grown 7.8cm/year at average after treatment by herb. 4. Conclusion : In case of decreasing growth to have get less growth hormone, it has confirmed positive effectiveness by herb treatment even if it is normal.

Objectives : Oriental medicine has set the no herb medicamentous dose for child, on the other hand the western medicine has it standardizing of age, weight or dimension of body. Therefore, we aimed to research the herb medicamentous dose for child being in being used in clinic. Methods : We made up a question of the oriental medical doctors of the master's and doctor's course in ○○ university. Results : 1. Child dose of herb medicine a time likes this. 1 pack is written prescription most at children patients under 1 year. 1 pack and 2 packs are written prescription most at children patients over 1 under 2. 2 packs are written prescription most at children patients over 2 under 3. 4 packs are written prescription most at children patients over 3 under 4. 10 packs are written prescription most at children patients over 8 under 14. Dose of herb medicine written prescription at children patients over 5 under 8 is in decentralization from 2 to 10 packs. 2. 2 or 3 times are most in a number of taking medicine a day. 3. 3 days are common in period of taking medicine under 5, over 10 days are common over 5. 4. It is necessary to regulating child dose of herb medicine.

Objectives: The purpose of this study is to report the improvement of multiple rib fracture after korean medical treatment; adhesive treatment and herb-medicine treatment. Methods: A patient with multiple rib fracture was treated with Daewhangchija-paste(大黃梔子膏) adhesive and herb-medicine treatment. Verbal numeric rating scale, medical examination by interview and rib series x-ray were used to assess progress of treatment. And we took pictures of left flank after attaching Daewhangchija-paste to observe the changes of the skin colors. Results: Rib series x-ray taken after 2 months of treatment revealed hard callus which added stability against external force on rib cage. After taking off Daewhangchija-paste, left plank skin turned into blue, green and yellow. And the pain level(VNRS) of left plank decreased from 10 to 0.5 for 4 months. Conclusions: Pain reduction on trauma site and improvement of general health condition were observed during combination treatment of Daewhangchija-paste adhesive and herb-medicine.

Purpose : The purpose of this paper is to report the effect of oriental medicine to primary infertility caused by uterus unicornis. Methods : The patient in this case, 30 years-old female was treated with herb medication(Sosihotang, Gyejibokryeonghwan) for one month. Before oriental treatment, she had been diagnosed as primary infertility caused by uterus unicornis in Samsung Cheil Hospital and treated medication and injection for IUI(intrauterine insemination) in 2 times. But she had failed in gestation. Results : After taking herb medication she became pregnant. Conclusion : According to this result, we concluded that herb medication could improve fertility rate. After this paper, further study and clinical approach based on oriental medicine will be needed about infertility caused by uterus unicornis.

Objectives : This study is designed to find out the improvement of eyelid ptosis and eyeball movement trouble caused by idiopathic oculomotor nerve palsy after diagnosing the patient to Ghan-shil (肝實), Bee, Shin-hur(脾腎虛) and treating the patient with acupuncture and herb medicine. Methods & Results : The changes in clinical symptoms of eyelid ptosis and eyeball movement trouble were described as the patient was treated with acupuncture therapy and herb medicine, Shae-ghan-san gagam(洗肝散加減) and Yukmi-jihwang-tang gagam(六味地黃湯加減). Conclusions : The patient was treated by acupuncture, herb medicine on idiopathic oculomotor nerve palsy for 6 weeks and showed good effect.
