  • The vector wave equation is widely used in electromagnetic wave analysis. This paper solves the vector wave equation using curl-conforming finite elements. The variational problem is established from Riesz functional based on vector wave equation and the unique existence of weak solution is explored. The edge elements are used in computation and the simulation results are compared with those obtained from a commercial simulator, ANSYS HFSS (high-frequency structure simulator).

  • Recently, the external prestressed concrete structures are increasingly being built. The mechanical behavior of prestressed concrete beams with unbonded tendon is different from that of normal bonded PSC beams in that the increment of tendon stress was derived by whole member behavior. By this reason, the ultimate stress of external tendon is smaller than that of bonded tendon or internal unbonded tendon. However, in the domestic and abroad code, the equation of ultimate stress of external tendon is not suggested yet, and the equation of ultimate stress of internal unbonded tendon is used instead of that of external tendon. Therefore, in this paper, after effective variables of ultimate stress of external tendon were analyzed, the analytical equation of ultimate stress of external tendon was proposed. And the reasonable coefficients were proposed by statistical work of test results of 25 beam with external tendon. Finally, the practical proposed equation of ultimate stress of external tendon was proposed with analytical and statistical model. The equation of ACI-318 and AASHTO 1994 were not matched with test results and had no correlations, and the proposed equation was well matched with test results. So the proposed equation in this paper will be a effective basis for the evaluation of external tendons in analysis and design.

  • Using the free volume of van der Waals equation, Carnahan-Starling equation for hard spheres, Wilson equation for nonrandom mixing of solution, NRTL equation and our equation, several new equations of states for pure gases are derived. Using these equations, compressibility factors for pure gases are calculated and compared with Nelson-Obert generalized compressibility factor charts. The equation of states using the concept of molecular nonrandom distribution gave better results than those of molecular random distribution. This shows that the molecular nonrandom distribution makes considerable effect on the equation of states.

  • Recently the use of gas spring in the combat and commercial vehicle's suspension is increasing. Because of its nonlinear characteristics, the gas spring can support wide range of dynamic loads and gives good ride quality. In design of gas spring, isothermal and adiabatic processes are applied generally, but those processes could not produce heat transfer effect in the simulation. So in this study, heat transfer differential equation and BWR/Ideal state equation are used to calculate the pressure of gas spring which is changing with time. The numerical analysis showed that the pressure of gas spring forms a hysteresis loop in the both of the state equations. But the peak pressure value of BWR equation over 0.1Hz frequency are higher than that of adiabatic process. And the test results showed that the differences between test results and ideal gas equation are smaller than those of BWR equation, so the ideal equation is more accurate than BWR equation in this case.

  • In this study, we derive the extended mild-slope equation in terms of the velocity potential using the Euler-Lagrange equation. First, we follow Kim and Bai (2004) who derive the complementary mild-slope equation in terms of the stream function using the Euler-Lagrange equation and we compare their equation to the existing extended mild-slope equations of the velocity potential. Second, we derive the extended mild-slope equation in terms of the velocity potential using the Euler-Lagrange equation. In the developed equation, the higher-order bottom variation terms are newly developed and found to be the same as those of Massel (1993) and Chamberlain and Porter (1995). The present study makes wide the area of coastal engineering by developing the extended mild-slope equation with a way which has never been used before.

  • Many engineering problems on the pipeline flow use continuity, energy, friction loss head equation. To calculate friction loss head in a pipeline, Darcy-Weisbach and many average velocity equations can be used and Hazen-Williams equation is used frequently in the pipe network for the water supply systems. Darcy-Weisbach equation is a general one acquired from applying Bernoulli's equation in the pipeline flow and Hazen-Williams equation is a experimental one in case that pipe velocity is below 3m/sec and pipe diameter is over 50mm. In this study, comparing Darcy-Weisbach with Hazen-Williams equation, relation f and C that are expressed as roughness coefficients of those equations is explained. Next, head losses calculated from using those equations are compared and those are applied in realistic pipelines. Comparing f with C, the f is decreasing linearly according to increase of the Reynolds number Re and increasing in case the C is decreasing. additionally, the C is increasing up to a point and then is decreasing according to increase of the Re. Next, the C is increasing and Re's range for increase of the C lengthens in case of decreasing of the relative roughness ${\varepsilon}/d$. Comparing head losses acquired from the two equations, head loss appears large in case that the C is decreasing and the ${\varepsilon}/d$ is increasing. additionally, Head loss calculated by the Darcy-Weisbach equation varies larger than one by Hazen-Williams equation in regard of the Re. Next, change aspect of head loss acquired by the C is distinguished more clearly than the one by the ${\varepsilon}/d$.

  • These studies were carried out to investigate the fumigant toxicity, the contact toxicity and the ovipositional repellency of 25 monoterpenoids against oak longicorn beetle adults, Moechotypa diphysis. Monoterpenoids with 100% of fumigant toxicity were 1, 8-cinehone, fenchone, pulegone and (equation omitted)-terpinene at 20 (equation omitted)/954 ml (air) concentration, pulegone and (equation omitted)-terpinen at 10 (equation omitted)/954 ml (air) concentration, pulegone at 5 (equation omitted)/954 ml (air) concentration. Most monoterpenoids showed low or no contact toxicity but only pulegone showed about 70% mortality. Some monoterpenoids which had repellency to female adults with Y-tube olfactometer were bornylacetate, carvacrol, 1, 8-cineole and menthol at 1 (equation omitted) dose, while citronellol showed attractant response. Carveol, geraniol and perillyl alcohol of 25 monoterpenoids showed ovipoistional repellency of 82.1%, 78.3%, 87.5%, respectively, at the concentration of 1,000 ppm in the laboratory condition. In the field, the result tested with three monoterpenoids indicated that geraniol was the most effective one at the concentration of 10,000ppm and 1,000 ppm, but residual effect wasn't found.

  • To correct the difference of filling volumn for various cut tobacco and puffed stem according to moisture contents, correction equation was estamated by a simple regression analysis. The $R^2$(coefficient of determination) of correction equation was above 0.95. To verify the precision of correction equation, we predicted correction equation of other samples. The filling volumns by the difference of $1\%$ moisture content were $0.018\;~\;0.022cc/g$ (cut tobacco) and 0.060cc/g (puffed stem). The precision of correction equation for various cut tobacco was very high, but that of puffed stem was low due to quality deviation of row stem according to a season.

  • In the procedure of the hydraulic control system design, a linearized approximate equation described by the first order terms of Taylor series has been widely used. Such a linearized equation is effective just near the operating point, However, pressure and flowrate in actual hydraulic systems are usually not confined near an operating point. This study suggests a new linearized flow equation for a servovalve as a modified form of the conventional linearized flow equation. Subsequently, a procedure to determine effective operating point for the new linearized equation is proposed. From the evaluations of time responses and frequency responses obtained from simulations for a hydraulic control system, the effectiveness of the new linearized equation and the procedure to determine effective operating point is confirmed.

  • The purpose of this paper is to propose the deduction equation of shear strength of high strength reinforced concrete beams input steel fibrous. To propose the deduction equation of shear strength, we studied high reasonable verification by comparing proposal equation with other researches such as equation of ACI code 318-95 or equation of Zsutty. To propose the deduction equation of shear strength, regression analysis was done using MINITAP program. Finally, it has been tried to make an improvement of brittleness quality of high strength concrete which has been weak points and it is convinced the result by increase of deflection and strain about loads.
