The Impact of Consumer Knowledge/Familiarity with Private Label Brands (PLBs) and Store Image on Perceptions and Preferences toward PLBs and Patronage Intentions: Case of Midscale Department Store PLBs

  • This study examines the impact of consumer knowledge and familiarity with private label brands (PLBs) on perceptions and preferences toward PLBs and patronage intentions; in addition, it examines the incremental effects of a department store image over consumer knowledge and familiarity with perceptions, preferences, and patronage intentions. This study focused on midscale department store PLBs of apparel products and middle age consumers between the ages of 30 and 50 who are the main consumer group of private label brands of apparel products. A structured questionnaire was developed and data were collected from a convenience sample of 257 female consumers between the ages of 35 and 54, living in the Southeastern United States. A factor analysis identified the dimensions of department store image constructs; in addition, a hierarchical regression and multiple regression analyses examined the hypotheses. Consumer knowledge and familiarity with PLBs at department stores is recognized as a major determinant to shape consumer perceptions of and preferences for the PLBs as well as patronage intentions. The present study reveals the significant incremental effect of a store image on consumer preferences, perceptions, and patronage intentions beyond that explained by consumer knowledge and familiarity about PLBs. The study reveals that, among four store image constructs, the store atmosphere and store service factors had significant positive effects on consumer perceptions of PLBs. Store service and atmospheric aspects also affect consumer patronage intentions toward PLBs. The price factor shows a significant and positive influence on the preference consumers have for PLBs, but not on perceptions and patronage intentions. This study has practical implications for department store executives and managers on how to allocate resources in order to increase positive consumer perceptions toward PLBs, preferences over other brands, and patronage intentions of PLBs at a store as well as how to create effective store environments to promote PLBs.

[$Ca^{2+}$ Signalling in Endothelial Cells: Role of Ion Channels

  • $Ca^{2+}-signals$ in endothelial cells are determined by release from intracellular stores and entry through the plasma membrane. In this review, the nature of $Ca^{2+}$ entry and mechanisms of its control are reviewed. The following ion channels play a pivotal role in regulation of the driving force for $Ca^{2+}$ entry: an inwardly rectifying $K^+$ channel, identified as Kir2.1, a big-conductance, $Ca^{2+}-activated$ $K^+$ channel (hslo) and at least two $Cl^-$ channels (a volume regulated $Cl^-$ channel, VRAC, and a $Ca^{2+}$ activated $Cl^-$ channel, CaCC). At least two different types of $Ca^{2+}$-entry channels exist: 1. A typical CRAC-like, highly selective $Ca^{2+}$ channel is described. Current density for this $Ca^{2+}$ entry is approximately 0.1pA/pF at 0 mV and thus 10 times smaller than in Jurkat or mast cells. 2. Another entry pathway for $Ca^{2+}$ entry is a more non-selective channel, which might be regulated by intracellular $Ca^{2+}$. Although detected in endothelial cells, the functional role of trp1,3,4 as possible channel proteins is unclear. Expression of trp3 in macrovascular endothelial cells from bovine pulmonary artery induced non-selective cation channels which are probably not store operated or failed to induce any current. Several features as well as a characterisation of $Ca^{2+}$-oscillations in endothelial cells is also presented.

가격인지차원과 점포속성이 패션제품 점포선택행동에 미치는 영향;백화점, 할인점, 인터넷 쇼핑몰을 중심으로 (Effects of Price Perception and Store Attributes on Fashion-Related Store Choice Behavior;Focused on Department Store, Discount Store, and Internet Shopping Mall)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate influences of perceived price dimensions and store attributes on store choice behavior. Three major retail formats, department store, discount store, and internet shopping mall in retail industry were compared with respect to store attributes and intention to purchase fashion products. Data were obtained from 427 consumers aged 25-49 years old. The results were as follows. (1) Multidimensional aspects of the price construct were identified: price-quality schema, prestige sensitivity, price mavenism, value consciousness, price consciousness, and sales proneness. (2) Store attributes included product assortment, quality per price (Q/P), service, and symbolic image in general. However, store attribute factors of three retail formats consisted of slightly different items. Department stores presented the highest level of mean scores on product quality, customer service, and symbolic images, while internet mall exhibited highest on product variety, information comparison, and quality per price. (3) Respondents presented high level of intention to purchase fashion products at internet mall, department store, and discount store in that order. (4) Purchase intention at department store was predicted by Q/P, service, symbolic image, prestige sensitivity, product assortment, clothing consumption, and age in order. Purchase intention at discount store was influenced by assortment & Q/P, symbolic image, clothing consumption, and sales proneness, whereas internet mall was predicted by product assortment, Q/P, service, price mavenism, and price-quality schema.

Characteristics of $Ca^{2+}$ Stores in Rabbit Cerebral Artery Myocytes

  • In a myocyte freshly isolated from rabbit cerebral artery, the characteristics of $Ca^{2+}$ release by histamine or caffeine were studied by microspectrofluorimetry using a $Ca^{2+}-binding$ fluorescent dye, fura-2. Histamine (5 ${\mu}M$) or caffeine (10 mM) induced a phasic rise of cytoplasmic free $Ca^{2+}$ concentration $([Ca^{2+}]_C)$ which could occur repetitively with extracellular $Ca^{2+}$ but only once or twice in $Ca^{2+}-free$ bathing solution. Also, the treatment with inhibitor of sarcoplasmic reticulum $Ca^{2+}-ATPase$ suppressed the rise of $[Ca^{2+}]_C$ by histamine or caffeine. In $Ca^{2+}-free$ bathing solution, short application of caffeine in advance markedly attenuated the effect of histamine, and vice versa. In normal $Ca^{2+}-containing$ solution with ryanodine (2 ${\mu}M$), the caffeine-induced rise of $[Ca^{2+}]_C$ occurred only once and in this condition, the response to histamine was also suppressed. On the other hand, in the presence of ryanodine, histamine could induce repetitive rise of $[Ca^{2+}]_C$ while the amplitude of peak rise became stepwisely decreased and eventually disappeared. These results suggest that two different $Ca^{2+}-release$ mechanisms (caffeine-sensitive and histamine-sensitive) are present in rabbit cerebral artery myocyte and the corresponding pools overlap each other functionally. Increase of $[Ca^{2+}]_C$ by histamine seems to partially activate ryanodine receptors present in caffeine-sensitive pool.

토양 특성을 이용한 토양유기탄소저장량 산정 모형 개발 (Development of Soil Organic Carbon Storage Estimation Model Using Soil Characteristics)

  • Carbon dioxide is one of the major driving forces causing climate changes, and many countries have been trying to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from various sources. Soil stores more carbon dioxide(two to three times) amounts than atmosphere indicating that soil organic carbon emission management are a pivotal issue. In this study, we developed a Soil Organic Carbon(SOC) storage estimation model to predict SOC storage amounts in soils. Also, SOC storage values were assessed based on the carbon emission price provided from Republic Of Korea(ROK). Here, the SOC model calculated the soil hydraulic properties based on the soil physical and chemical information. Base on the calculated the soil hydraulic properties and the soil physical chemical information, SOC storage amounts were estimated. In validation, the estimated SOC storage amounts were 486,696 tons($3.526kg/m^2$) in Jindo-gun and shown similarly compared to the previous literature review. These results supported the robustness of our SOC model in estimating SOC storage amounts. The total SOC storage amount in ROK was 305 Mt, and the SOC amount at Gyeongsangbuk-do were relatively higher than other regions. But the SOC storage amount(per unit) was highest in Jeju island indicating that volcanic ashes might influence on the relatively higher SOC amount. Based on these results, the SOC storage value was shown as 8.4 trillion won in ROK. Even though our SOC model was not fully validated due to lacks of measured SOC data, our approach can be useful for policy-makers in reducing soil organic carbon emission from soils against climate changes.

Development of Virtual Reality-based Visual Perception and Cognitive Rehabilitation Service

  • Purpose: Patients with brain damage suffer from limitations in performing the activities of daily living (ADL) because of their motor function and visual perception impairment. The aim of this study was to help improve the motor function and visual perception ability of patients with brain damage by providing them with virtual reality-based contents. The usability results of the patients and specialists group were also evaluated. Methods: The ADL contents consisted of living room, kitchen, veranda, and convenience store, similar to a real home environment, and these were organized by a rehabilitation specialist (e.g., neurologist, physiotherapist, and occupational therapist). The contents consisted of tasks, such as turning on the living room lights, organizing the drawers, organizing the kitchen, watering the plants on the veranda, and buying products at convenience stores. To evaluate the usability of the virtual reality-based visual cognitive rehabilitation service, general elderly subjects (n=11), stroke patients (n=7), stroke patients with visual impairment (n=4), and rehabilitation specialists (n=11) were selected. The questionnaires were distributed to the subjects who were using the service, and the subjective satisfaction of individual users was obtained as data. The data were analyzed using SPSS 21.0 software. The general characteristics of the users and the evaluation scores of the experts were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results: The usability test result of this study showed that the mean value of the questionnaire related to content understanding and difficulty was high, between 4-5 points. Conclusion: The virtual reality rehabilitation service of this study is an efficient service that can improve the function, interest, and motivation of stroke patients.

한.중.일 삼국여대생들의 화장품구매실태 연구 (Cosmetics Buying Patterns and Satisfaction among Female University Students in China, Japan and Korea)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 외모에 대한 관심과 호기심이 왕성한 한, 중, 일 세 국가의 여대생들의 화장품구매실태를 조사하고 화장품이용과 관련한 만족, 불만족이유에 대한 세 국가 간의 차이점을 비교 분석하여 그 결과를 국내 화장품업계의 국내외 진출시 마케팅자료로 활용하고자 함이었다. 본 연구는 서울, 베이징, 도쿄에 거주하는 남녀공학대학에 재학중인 여대생 1,200명을 대상으로 하여 자료수집을 하였다. 연구결과, 세 국가의 여대생들의 화장품구매실태와 화장품과 관련한 만족, 불만족의 차이가 있었다. 중국여대생들은 구매처의 신뢰도와 브랜들 이미지를 중요하게 생각하고 불만족 화장품에 대해서는 교환을 통해 적극적으로 대처하는 것으로 나타났기 때문에 소비자들의 불만족경험을 줄이고 고급스럽고 믿을 수 있는 품질의 제품으로 백화점에 진출하는 마케팅전략이 중국시장진출 시 필요하며, 일본여대생들은 광고와 잡지모델이 중국, 한국과 비교하여 상대적으로 구매 시 중요한 요인으로 작용하고 슈퍼마켓과 약국을 통해 저렴한 화장품구매를 하는 것으로 나타나 일본시장진출 시 광고를 통해 브랜드인지도를 높이고 슈퍼마켓과 약국으로 유통망을 확대하고 품질대비 저렴한 가격전략이 필요하며 한국여대생들은 화장품구매시 친구나 동료 등과 같은 인적네크워크를 통한 구전과 저렴한 가격을 중요하게 생각하고 있어 품질대비 저렴한 가격으로 긍정적인 구전효과를 통한 마케팅전략이 필요하다고 사료된다.

중국소비자의 한국 화장품 브랜드 진정성이 브랜드 충성도에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Chinese Consumers' Brand Authenticity of Korean Cosmetic Brand on Brand Loyalty)

  • 본 연구는 중국소비자들의 한국 화장품 브랜드에 대한 진정성이 브랜드만의 고유한 가치인 브랜드 아우라를 형성하게 하고, 이러한 브랜드 아우라가 그들의 한국 화장품 브랜드에 대한 충성도에 영향을 미치는 지를 살펴보고자 하였다. 이에 본 연구는 브랜드 진정성이 상품의 종류 및 특성에 따라 다른 속성들로 구성되어 정의될 수 있음을 감안하여, 화장품 브랜드 진정성의 하위속성들을 질적 및 양적 조사를 통해 밝힌 선행연구를 바탕으로 한국 화장품 브랜드 진정성을 제품 진정성, 판매인 진정성, 기업 진정성 등 세 개의 하위개념으로 보았다. 검증을 위해 본 연구는 중국의 베이징, 상하이, 광저우 등에 있는 백화점, 할인점, 대형 쇼필몰에 입점한 한국 화장품 브랜드숍을 방문하는 중국소비자 400명을 대상으로 데이터를 수집하였다. 분석 결과 중국소비자들의 한국 화장품 브랜드의 제품, 판매인, 기업 진정성 모두 브랜드 아우라에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으며, 이러한 브랜드 아우라는 중국소비자들의 한국 화장품 브랜드에 대한 충성도에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 확인되었다. 본 연구의 결과는 한국 화장품 기업들이 중국소비자들에게 브랜드 진정성을 지각하게 만들어 그들이 브랜드만의 고유한 가치를 느낄 수 있게 하는 제품, 판매인, 그리고 기업 진정성에 대한 전략적 시사점을 제공할 수 있다.

중국 시장 내 한국과 중국 여성복 정장의 맞음새 관련 소비자 만족도 비교 연구 - 북경에 거주하는 성인 여성을 중심으로 - (A Comparative Study on Consumers' Satisfaction Levels Relating to the Fit of Korean and Chinese Women's Suits in the Chinese Market - Focused on Adult Women Residing in the Beijing Area -)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the sin satisfaction and fitness of Chinese women for Korean-made women's suits. The study methodology was questionnaire survey and the subjects were randomly chosen, 20 to 49-year-old female shoppers at department stores in Beijing, China. The data analyses were performed with SPSS 12.0 through descriptive analysis, t-test, and crosstab analysis. The findings were as follows. Chinese women assessed both the fit satisfaction and fit suitability levels of Korean-made women's suits available in China to be higher than that of Chinese-made women's suits. Paticularly, in the tan of slacks showing the lowest suitability level among Chinese-made women's wear, Korean-made women's suits in China had outstandingly high suitability level. In the case of jackets, however, the Korean-made women's suits went through more fixings, on average, than Chinese-made women's suits. In addition, more fixings were done for enlargement than for contraction, which necessitated the measure changes.

토종닭 농장주 및 가공업자가 바라본 토종닭 산업의 미래 방향 (Future Business Direction of Korean Native Chicken: Farmer and Processor Perspectives)

  • The aim of this study was to investigate the difficulties that Korean farmers and processors currently experience with respect to the market for Korean native chicken (KNC). This study also provides suggestions by which they can overcome these difficulties. In all, sixty-nine farmers and sixty-two processors participated in our investigation, which addressed 1) the current difficulties that KNC farmers face, 2) the current importance-satisfaction measures among KNC farmers and processors, and 3) the future direction of the KNC market: farmer and processor opinions. The respondents stated that the limited number of sales stores was the most difficult market condition they faced in raising KNC, followed by feed cost, animal disease, and poor production environment. Regarding issues of importance and satisfaction, origin in raising step and slaughtering in the processing and distribution step were considered the areas most in urgent need of improvement, given farmers' and processors' high levels of dissatisfaction with these. Both the free-range farming system and the concept of animal welfare are growing in importance, given consumers' interests in these areas. As to opinions on the direction of KNC development, menu development was cited as most important, followed by public advertisement, accessibilities, business aid, and breed development. Consequently, the results show that well-organized support from both the government and related industries is needed, as chicken farmers and processors cannot resolve certain limitations inherent in the KNC industry on their own.
