A Study on the Traits of Multicultural Society of Rural Areas in Korea (한국농촌의 다문화사회의 특징)

  • The objectives of this study were to study multicultural society of rural areas in Korea. USA immigration law permits permanent settlement but Korea immigration law prohibits permanent settlement. USA adopted the territorial principle but Korea adopted the personal(nationality) principle. So a large number of people immigrated and settled in USA and mass(collective) immigrants is usual in USA. But foreign workers(temporary immigration) and international marriage women(individual immigrants) is usual in Korea. According to the positive law, foreign workers cannot settle down in Korea. So international marriage women immigrants are main cause of multicultural society in rural areas in Korea. This is the particularity of multicultural society in rural areas in Korea. So it is necessary to differentiate multicultural society policy according to areas and residents. Many peoples see multicultural society from a point of view of human rights and welfare. But it is also necessary to see multicultural society from a point of view of economic and policy.

A Comparison of Time Use between Korean and the USA Families (한.미 양국간 가족의 시간사용 비교 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to compare the patterns of time use between Korean and USA families. The data for 353 Seoul-based Korean families with two children living in Seoul and 130 USA families with two children living in the State of Utah were collected using a structured questionnaire and time diary. The major findings were as the following: 1. The Korean couples spent more time at personal care, paid work, and travel than the USA couples did, while the USA couples spent more time at housework and social-cultural activities than the Korean couples did. 2. The Korean wives spent more time doing food and clothing related housework than the USA wives did. Compared with the Korean wives, however, the time spent at house cleaning and management, family care and shopping and home management were longer than USA wives. The time U.S. husbands engaged in housework was much greater than by the Korean husbands. 3. Regardless of sex and school level, the Korean children spent less time at sleeping/rest, housework and socio-cultural activities and more time at eating and learning than those of U.S. These time use patterns of the families in both countries may reflect the differences of the cultural contexts, social norms, life styles, and the degrees of urbanization. To fully explain the findings, further study on the differences in social and cultural factors between the two countries is needed.

  • In Korea, many local university mathematics faculty knew that the institution faced serious student shortage problems and the restructuring and cut actions for such a mathematics major programs. In general, undergraduate mathematics education in korea is in the crisis. In general, lots of mathematics departments in korea was not prepared for such a severe risk. In this article, university mathematics education and research business are studied in the context of the size of korea-usa population, economy(such as GDP), SCI indices. Korea-usa university mathematics education profile data are presented to compare korea-usa university mathematics education business. Lots of precious data on mathematics education are being helped to prepare for the university mathematics education crisis.

  • This study explored a terminal values of home economics students at Chonnam national university in Korea. And the terminal values of them were compared with those of USA and Japan. Through this, it make to explain the similarities and differences in terminal values among 3 nations. 175 students were adapted as data in Korea. Data of USA and Japan were obtained from Holyoak, Sawai, and Rauniyar(1993). The data were analyzed by frequency, percentage, means, one-way ANOVA, Duncan-test. The results showed significant similarities and differences in terminal values among 3 groups.

A Study on International Comparison and Analysis of Health Education Contents in Elementary Schools(based on Korea, USA, and Japan) (초등학교 보건교육내용의 국제비교분석(한국, 미국, 일본을 중심으로))

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze hygiene education contents of elementary schools in Korea, USA, Japan and compare this and to provide with basic material present improvement method when hygiene education contents of elementary schools in Korea are organized. For this purpose the problems as following are selected centering on the hygiene education contents of the 7th education process in Korea and Japan and the hygiene text of public school in California, USA. First, this study tries to analyze the composition classified by 12 guidance contents each grade of hygiene education contents of elementary schools in Korea, USA, and Japan. Second, this study tries to analyze the composition classified by fields(physical, mental, social) of hygiene education contents of elementary schools in Korea, USA, and japan. As a result of the analysis and comparison on the matters stated above, the conclusion as following was gotten. First, as a result of searching the hygiene education contents system of elementary schools in Korea, USA, and Japan classified by 12 guidance contents each grade, the subjects which have good contents composition classified by class step by step were safe life and disease prevention. And the subjects such as growth development and health, physical fitness, drug use and health were weak and the parts such as consumer health and the careers concerned with are not dealt in the present education process of Korea at all. Second, as a result of analyzing the composition classified by fields of hygiene education contents of elementary schools in Korea, USA, Japan, all the three countries put great on physical part. And there are 57 units about mental part in USA, 27 units in Japan, only 17 units in Korea. And this fact reveals that there was lack of understanding about the need of mental part in Korea. This study tries to suggest improvement method as following through the study results stated above. First, as it is grasped in the analysis classified by guidance part of hygiene education contents, community and environment preservation, physical aptitude and stress management are to be emphasized more strongly and about the parts like consumer health and the persons concerned with hygiene new education programs as contents satisfying the need of age are to be inserted or complemented Second, because the hygiene education contents in Korea are still lack in comparing contents of mental parts compared with those of the two countries, the contents proper to the level and the requirement of learners to each grade are to be developed and complemented. Third, hygiene education units which were reduced in the 7th curriculum in Korea are lack compared with those in the two countries. Therefore, it is necessary that teachers should recognize the need of hygiene education so that the hygiene education can be separated and be taught out regularly.

  • This paper is to provide for an analysis on the trade adjustment assistance program and the Case study affected by international trade and FTA. The paper offers a legal study on analysis about Korea's Trade Adjustment Assistance Law for the Manufacturing Industries, USA's TAA. and Japan's law for Industry revival. In general, USA's TAA measures are defined as assistance actions for business enterprises, farmers and manufacturing industries workers. We exclude farmers and fishermen under Korea's Trade Adjustment Assistance Law for the Manufacturing Industries's business enterprises and workers, but we give them the systemic supports under korea's special assistance law for the farmers and fishermen and so on after FTA. Especially this focuses on the trade adjustment assistance case about both Korea's agriculture-farmer assistance from FTA and USA's TAA from workers in layoffs of trade-impacted communities. Korea has provided TAA to the sphere of agriculture after special legislation in Korea-Chile helping closed orchard, modernizing high quality producing facility for agriculture competition, producing superior fruit saplings, and constructing the distribution center in the producing district. But for US-Korea FTA and rapid increase of import by FTA expansion, we must prepare such indemnity systems for loss as cash benefit and wider aids for closed farm. The USA's TAA program targets manufacturing workers affected by international trade, who may have fewer transferable skills and face greater challenges to reemployment than other dislocated workers. A large majority sought some assistance from their one-stop center. Relatively small numbers chose to enroll in training, but those who did it often used this opportunity to chart a new career path. Finally, we learned the importance of education and discipline from USA cases. The fast and accurate information providing can raise efficiencies. The infrastructure can maximize the effect of TAA. The effective application would help us get over difficulties of TAA at hand.

  • Venture Creation Management in the USA has been very successful since World War II. The venture creation management education has made the venture enterprises' management successful in the USA. Thus, this study compared the venture creation management education of Korea with that of the USA and provided the strategic suggestions for successful venture creation management in Korea.
