  • This study dealt with the impacts of geometric structure on traffic accidents occurring on the interstates. There are standard values for the case of geometric structure which are recommended in the design guideline/policy; however, in the previous models, geometric variables were adapted as integrated ones as opposed to mixed ones in the real world so that derived models had a weakness to reflect the real. Therefore, using subdivided geometric variables, this study tried to derive the model which reflects the real world. In addition, by calculating elasticity, each variables' effect to the accidents are estimated. Hopefully, this study will help to establish the future guideline/policy of geometrics considering traffic safety.

  • An electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection device, so called, N-type embedded silicon controlled rectifier (NESCR), was analyzed for high voltage operating I/O applications. A conventional NESCR standard device shows typical SCR-like characteristics with extremely low snapback holding voltage, which may cause latch-up problem during normal operation. However, our modified NESCR_CPS_PPW device with proper junction/channel engineering such as counter pocket source (CPS) and partial P-well structure demonstrates highly latch-up immune current-voltage characteristics with high snapback holding voltage and on-resistance.

  • In semantic information retrieval, we first need to build domain ontology and second, we need to convert the users' search keywords into a standard query such as SPARQL. In this paper, we propose a method that can automatically convert the users' search keywords into the SPARQL queries. Furthermore, our method can ensure effective performance in a specific domain such as law. Our method constructs the keyword history ontology by associating each keyword with a series of information when there are multiple keywords. The constructed ontology will convert keyword history ontology into SPARQL query. The automatic transformation method of SPARQL query proposed in the paper is converted into the query statement that is deemed the most appropriate by the user's intended keywords. Our study is based on the existing legal ontology constructions that supplement and reconstruct schema and use it as experiment. In addition, design and implementation of a semantic search tool based on legal domain and conduct experiments. Based on the method proposed in this paper, the semantic information retrieval based on the keyword is made possible in a legal domain. And, such a method can be applied to the other domains.

  • Climate change and environmental pollution are becoming serious due to the use of fossil energy. For this reason, renewable energy systems are increasing, especially photovoltaic systems being more popular. The photovoltaic system has characteristics that are affected by ambient weather conditions such as insolation, outside temperature, wind speed. Particularly, it has been confirmed that the performance of the photovoltaic system decreases as the module temperature increases. In order to grasp the influence of the module temperature in advance, several researchers have proposed the prediction models on the module temperature. In this paper, we predicted the module temperature using the aforementioned prediction model on the basis of the weather conditions in Incheon, South Korea during July and August. The influence of weather conditions (i.e. insolation, outside temperature, and wind speed) on the accuracy of the prediction models was also evaluated using the standard statistical metrics such as RMSE, MAD, and MAPE. The results show that the prediction accuracy is reduced by 3.9 times and 1.9 times as the insolation and outside temperature increased respectively. On the other hand, the accuracy increased by 6.3 times as the wind speed increased.

  • This study explores the environmentally innovative and low-impact technology, a zero food waste system (ZFWS) that utilizes food waste and converts it into composts or biofuels and curtails carbon emissions. The ZFWS not just achieves food waste reductions but recycles food waste into fertilizer. Based on a fermentation-extinction technique using bio wood chips, the ZFWS was employed in a field experiment of the system installed in a large-scale apartment complex, and the performance of the system was examined. The on-site ZFWS consisted of three primary parts: 1) a food waste slot into which food waste was injected; 2) a fermentation-extinction reactor where food waste was mixed with bio wood chips made up of complex enzyme and aseptic wood chips; and 3) deodorization equipment in which an ultraviolet and ozone photolysis method was employed. The field experiment showed that food waste injected into the ZFWS was reduced by 94%. Overall microbial activity of the food waste in the fermentation-extinction reactor was measured using adenosine tri-phosphate (ATP), and the degradation rate of organic compounds, referred to as volatile solids, increased with ATP concentration. The by-products generated from ZFWS comply with the national standard for organic fertilizer.

  • This research analyzes how female college students' perception of somatotype-self and their satisfactions with their somatotype-self affect their appearance-management behaviors. The result is as follows: 1)An analysis of subjects' physical characteristics revealed that the average figures of their body sizes were within the normal boundaries. The average Quetelet Index of the subjects, which determines obesity of adults, was slightly below the nationwide physical standard of Korea. 2)The subjects' satisfaction with their each body part shows that the women were unsatisfied with every body-part measurement; height, bust size, waist size, hips size and particularly weight. 3)While most of the respondents recognized that sizes of their body parts were average, they were not happy with their body sizes. 4)Three factors were recognized from the study of appearance-management behaviors of the subjects; we defined them as 'Appearance Management', 'Weight Management', and 'Satisfaction with one's Appearance.' The study showed that the fatter, the more a subject controlled her weight. 5)A correlation study between one's perception of her body and her appearance-management behavior found that the more obese a subject was, the harder the subject was controlling her weight.

  • In this paper, we propose and analyze a more efficient and flexible dynamic data traffic system for a circuit switched satellite network. Our proposed system is more efficient than existing circuit switched satellite networks and allows for dynamic capacity in each connection without rebuilding or resetting the connection software or algorithms. We also discuss an algorithm for bandwidth allocation that provides deterministic quality of service guarantees. The traffic sources are regulated using standard dual leaky buckets; the system performance is analytically evaluated; and the algorithm is verified through simulation. Our analysis scheme and results should prove useful for the design and implementation of protocols in future circuit-switched satellite networks.

  • The purpose of this study was to understand the present condition about the space planning of the nursing rooms at the child care center in U.S.A. The researchers investigated the physical conditions of the centers through sketching, measurement, taking pictures and observation. On the other hand, to understand the user's needs, the interview to the directors of the centers was performed. As a result, the followings were proposed. The grouping of children depending upon the age has to be more classified according to the development period. And the guideline for the space areas has to be improved to a larger standard than present regulation. And the most impressive characteristic of the center in U.S.A. is the functional space design. The space such as toilet, washing room, kitchenet are well organized into the nursing rooms for children. Various ideas for arranging above functions in the small nursing rooms have to be developed in Korea. And the dynamic space arrangement of nursing room is also impressive. The material of the floor has to be considered variously for the comfort of the children.

  • Recently, the number of smartphone users is rising rapidly due to an influx of foreign smartphones and sales of domestic products. According to the increase of smartphone users, smartphone malwares are also increasing sharply. Hence it is necessary to protect smartphone against mobile malwares. There are device management protocols as SNMP, TR-069. But these protocols are not suitable for mobile device management because of restrictive management function and unsupported mobility. OMA DM which is a standard for mobile device management has been adopted as mobile device management protocol for most of 2G,3G. Thus it amounts that OMA DM is suitable for smartphone management system. In this paper, the mobile device management system based on OMA DM is designed. This system can remove smartphone malware by remote control.

  • The present paper is concerned to the thermal analysis during the cool-down period of 138,000 m$^3$class GTT MARK-III membrane type LNG carrier servicing with LNG from the Middle East to Korea. It is the cool-down period that cools the insulation wall and the gas in LNG tank to avoid the thermal shock as the start of loading of -162$^{\circ}C$ LNG. For six hours of the standard cool-down period, the temperature of NG falls down from -4$0^{\circ}C$ to -13$0^{\circ}C$ and especially the mean temperature of the 1st barrier in the top side insulation wall falls down from -38.38$^{\circ}C$ to -122.42$^{\circ}C$ in case of IMO design condition. By the 3-D numerical calculation about the cargo tank and the cofferdam, the temperature variation in hulls and insulations is precisely predicted in this paper. And the mean temperature variation of gas is calculated as the function of the spraying rate by the heat balance model during the cool-down period.
